Happy Wednesday everyone! Last week, I decided to dive into the B&C fabrics that I shared with you. I think about right after I published that blog post, I just had to start on my next project.
All of these fabrics have been cut up–with the exception of the top 4 fabric on the left stack. Those are all border fabrics and I couldn’t decide which order I wanted them in, so I’m going to cut them as I go.
The center of my project is the 21″ pinwheel block at the top of the page.
And I also cut out 160 petals for this project as well. I will guiltily confess to watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey as I cut them out…
Completing the applique on them is next up on today’s list. Luckily I have a great line-up of podcasts just waiting to be heard as I sew.
Thank you so much to everyone who entered the giveaway! I really enjoyed reading through all of your comments & I especially loved how many of you are ready to begin applique after reading through the book.
The Playful Petals Giveaway winner is comment number 78!
I just sent you an email! =)

Thank you so much to all of you for following along on the Playful Petals Blog Tour!–Today is the last day of the blog tour and I hope you all have enjoyed it. Lee is sharing her thoughts on Playful Petals along with her adorable Daisy Fields pillow(pictured above) on her blog today. I love the yarn dyed dark linen background fabric she chose to use for her pillow. That fabric has been wanting to make it’s way into my stash for way too long! Be sure to hop over to Lee’s and check out her blog–she is always such an inspiration!!

These are just a couple of the beautiful projects shared as part of this tour–you’ll want to make sure to visit all of the stops to see all of the pretties shared!:
And now, we are moving onto the giveaway portion of today–I know you all have been waiting. =) I seriously want to enter this giveaway myself…it’s a good one!–And it’s all about my favorites.
Of course, the winner of the giveaway will receive a copy of Playful Petals:
Next up, how about some Moda Fabrics layer cakes?!—Moda fabrics has been and will remain my favorite fabric manufacturer. 15 years ago, I fell in love with a certain Moda fabric designer and spent hours scouring the internet for pieces from one of her lines of fabric. This was back in the day of dial up internet which meant it was slow going..but, I just fell in love with Moda!
Moda Fabrics has sent me two layer cakes for my giveaway, one of Kate Spain’s new Horizon line of fabric & one of The Jung’s new Pedal Pushers line of fabric.
I do a lot of fabric shopping locally but I also love shopping for fabric online. I reached out to one of my favorite online fabric shops…which I am sure you are all very familiar with..Fat Quarter Shop…and they donated a $50 gift certificate to their shop for my giveaway!
They have recently added some awesome things to their site…Have you all seen the Snapshots Quilt Along yet?–seriously amazing!:
Well, I figured why stop with one online shop?..So I reached out to another of my favorite online shops…Fabric Shack. Fabric Shack has both a great online store and a brick and mortar store which happens to be about 25 minutes from my sister-in-law’s house in Cincinnati. So, it is a must stop for me whenever we visit. The thing I love the most about shopping online at Fabric Shack is that they will cut 1/8 yd. cuts of fabric. For my scrap loving self, this is perfect! In fact, I bought 1/8 yd. cuts of the complete Up Parasol line from Fabric Shack when I was making my Tiled Blooms quilt:
Fabric Shack donated a $25 Gift Certificate to their online shop as part of today’s giveaway!
Well, since I don’t do all of my fabric shopping online, I contacted my favorite local quilt shop, Miller’s Dry Goods, to see if they would be interested in donating to my giveaway…and they said yes!–Now you might be thinking that you won’t be able to shop here..but, they also have a wonderful online shop to which they’ve donated a $30 Gift Certificate.
They carry all kinds of goodies..some of my favorites: The 8 wt. Finca Perle Cotton I am always referencing for hand quilting, Aurifil thread(which everyone in blogland is always referencing), Moda fabrics, Cotton & Steel fabrics, a great selection of solids, and the list goes on. Plus, you will not find a more accommodating staff!
Plus, they have the prettiest quilting retreat center, The Rural Thimble, right beside their fabric shop. Every time I shop there, I am envious of the ladies staying over in that facility–so pretty, newly opened, and just perfect for a group of 10 ladies to get together and sew to their heart’s content.
So, here’s the rundown of the giveaway prizes(a value of nearly $200):
Playful Petals Book
2 Moda Layer Cakes
$50 Gift Certificate to Fat Quarter Shop
$25 Gift Certificate to Fabric Shack
$30 Gift Certificate to Miller’s Dry Goods

Happy Thursday everyone!–Today I am sharing the last quilt in my book, Playful Petals. There are a total of 9 quilts and 9 pillows in the book for a total of 18 projects. This quilt is called Scattered Blossoms and is a great scrap basket buster.
I neglected to snap a picture of the pillow so it’ll just have to be a surprise. =)
I really hope that you have enjoyed seeing all of the projects from my book. If you have any questions about any of them or about anything in the book, please ask! =)
Today, two quilting super stars will be sharing about Playful Petals on their blogs. I am so excited that they are joining my blog tour! First up is Amanda from Crazy Mom Quilts. I have been following Amanda Jean’s blog for years!–She’s probably one of the first quilty blogs that I ran across–Love her blog! And 2nd up today is Lori of Bee In My Bonnet. Lori’s blog is another of my favorites–she’s always got something fun going on!–And her fabric…don’t even get me started!
Welcome to Day 8 of the Playful Petals blog tour! Today I am sharing the 2nd free pattern I designed for this blog tour. This quilt, Tiled Blooms, is a very beginner friendly quilt. The piecing is very easy and the petals are slightly oversized. Tiled Blooms finishes at 60″ square. The fabrics I used are from Heather Bailey’s Up Parasol line of fabric.
It’s no secret that I have a little bit of a “thing” for Heather Bailey’s fabrics. I love the way the pink colorway from her first line of fabric, FreshCut, goes with Up Parasol. The folded quilt(the quilt pattern is called Gypsy Girl) was the first quilt I made using her fabrics–FreshCut still remains one of my favorite lines of fabric ever!
For the quilt back, I pieced together some larger pieces of fabric and included a lot of the Ikea Britten Nummer print that I’ve been wanting to use.
As I was taking this photo a bunch of horses came right up to the fence and walked by. I thought they might try to eat it off the fence!–Okay, or at the very least, knock it off. =)
And, here’s the Tiled Blooms Pattern–It’s a freebie made to work with my book Playful Petals. It uses the applique techniques I have outlined in the book. Please note, you will need to print out both the PDF pattern and the Petal Pattern. Make sure your page scaling is set to “none” when printing out the petal template.
Day 8 of the Playful Petals Blog Tour brings us the 8th quilt in the book. This one is called Sunshine and Clouds and features Madrona Road fabrics by Violet Craft.
This is a fun take on the petal shape and a great use of a jelly roll. I really want to either make another of these, or see one made up in a super scrappy version.
I used a little fussy cut Sweetwater print for the center of the Sunshine and Clouds pillow. In my book, I give some suggestions for placing lighter fabrics over top of darker fabrics. You’ll notice that none of the text fabric shows through the white fabric petals on top.
Two different bloggers will be sharing about Playful Petals tomorrow. Make sure to stop back to see who’s up! =) And on Friday, I’ll be kicking off an exciting giveaway. =)
