Gifts for Quilters

It’s the weekend friends!  I’ve been wanting to compile a list of fun gifts for the quilter in your life (maybe that is you, maybe that is a friend) to share with you all to help with your holiday shopping.

Important disclaimer: This post contains both affiliate links.  All opinions are my own, however, and only my favorites make this list. Most of the items are things I’ve purchased myself (or things I’ve had my eye on!).
So here is a list of some different fun “quilty” shopping items.  Some of these you may be familiar with and some may be new to you.  But either way, I hope you enjoy this little bit of holiday window shopping. =)  These are in no particular order!

  1. These fun sewing tees from Maker Valley are great for the quilter in your life.  I may own several of these–I especially like the v neck tees–super soft and wash and wear well.

   2.  Quilting Themed Cat’s Meow  My friend Faline, is the owner of Cat’s Meow.  You guys may have a collection of these already!  Faline has been releasing super cute quilting themed pieces over the last years.  She even used a couple of my quilts for this year’s release.

   3.  We own several of these Rolling Art Carts  They are so useful for so many different things.  My daughter uses one to store all of her art supplies so she can easily tuck it away in the closet when it’s not in use and I use mine in my sewing room.  I most often use mine when I am cutting fabrics and then taking them over to my machine.  I can cut out the whole quilt, place the pieces on the cart and roll it over to my machine.  It’s also nice because it has little magnetic bins for storing pins, rotary cutters, wonder clips etc.

4.  Speaking of storage, these yardstick boxes are super cute for your sewing room.

5.  I am such an earring fan and I love these stitched earrings from Grace & Wood Co.

   6.  This isn’t a quilty item but it’s an item that I have been collecting for a number of years to make into a quilt.  Hymn tea towels from Fancy That Design House.  I think these are just beautiful and make wonderful gifts for so many people!

   7.  I think these Quilt Block ornaments are so sweet.

8.  And I have been eyeing this Civil War Barn Quilt Collection for years!  I think it is so pretty. =)

9.  And so is this one.  Really, you just need to spend some time browsing in this shop.  There are so many pretty things!

10.  If you like the idea of giving wooden Barn Quilts, Red Rainboots Handmade has wonderful sets or individual pieces as well.

11.  I really like my “I am a Maker” mug from Selah Signs :

12.  I am horrible at labeling my quilts–as in, I have never labeled any of them.  The Sweetwater label club is a perfect gift for a quilter like me who needs to start labeling their quilts or for someone who loves labeling and just wants really cute labels to continue to do so.

13.  If you like the idea of giving a subscription of some sort, Fat Quarter Shop’s Sew Sampler box is a lot of fun to receive.  They have a waiting list right now but it seems to move along pretty quickly.  Here’s a picture of what I received in October:

14.  If you are a quilter and like a hard copy planner to keep track of your schedule like I do, you might like the Quilter’s Planner.

15.  Lisa Bongean has A Quilter’s Journal that is really neat for tracking your quilting adventures.

16.  Let’s talk books, there have been some really great ones released this year: Jelly Filled by Vanessa Goertzen, Quilt by Color & Countdown to Christmas both by Susan Ache, Blue & White Quilts, Sisterhood of Scraps (this one doesn’t come out until January but it’s going to be a good one!), Farm Girl Vintage 2 by Lori Holt.

17.  And I love giving a good magazine subscription.  American Patchwork & Quilting is one of my favorite quilting magazines.

18.  I store my mini charms in a Penny Candy Jar.  I think it would be a wonderful gift to fill up a Penny Candy Jar with mini charms.  Wouldn’t it be fun to visit a quilt shop and just go crazy buying mini charms for a friend!

And let’s not forget about sewing notions:

Magic Pins are by far my favorite pin and have been for a number of years now.  They come in different sizes and the head of the pin is so nice.  I don’t know if I’ll ever change back to another pin!

I love my Creative Grids Stripology Ruler, it has saved me so much time when cutting out a quilt.  A new extra larger version has just come out: Creative Grids Stripology XL Ruler that I would love to have!  I also have this little guy for cutting layer cakes or charm packs:

If a sewing machine is on your list, I can’t say enough good things about this one: Juki TL-2010Q   I have had my Juki for several years now and it is the only machine I use for piecing.  I also have a Bernina that I use when I want to applique.

And of course, there are always rotary cutters, seam rippers, threads etc.  Gift Certificates to favorite local quilt shops or favorite online shops are also a great idea.  Or even planning a quilt shop hop for a quilting friend would be wonderful!  If you want to shop hop here in the Berlin, Ohio area, I’m happy to give my favorite quilt shops and eateries.

Shopping for a quilter is a great excuse to get out and visit your local quilt shops.  If you don’t have a local shop, I have linked to the items I’ve listed above. =)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Corey, Thank you so much for taking the time to do this as we are preparing for the busy holiday season. I love all of the suggestions and have passed them on to some of my family. I do like to decorate my sewing room (with things other than fabric lol) and think the barns would be great for that. Happy Thanksgiving and Thank You for all you do for the quilting community.

I love your ideas! Some of these items I’ve never seen. My husband is painting my sewing room so those quilty wall hangings would sure look cute once he’s done! Have a terrific Thanksgiving everyone!

Great ideas! I have a Cat’s Meow building that is the Halle Brothers Building in downtown Cleveland, OH. I was a Buyer at Halle’s until just before they closed in the early 1980s. One of my Buying responsibilities there was for the Fashion Fabrics, Sewing Notions, Patterns & Art Needlework Departments. It was my dream job for 7 years. How cool to be friends with the owner.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
