Q&A Friday (Moda Block Heads Lay Out Information)

Welcome to Q&A Friday!

I’ve been getting asked pretty frequently as of late if I have completed the fabric requirements and directions for my layout for Moda Block Heads.   Today I am sharing that information with you.  If you are not participating in Moda Block Heads, be sure to leave me your quilty questions in the comments below.  I will be back next Friday answering all of your fun questions. =)

My 6″ block layout for Moda Block Heads

For my layout, I am making an additional 50 blocks that will be alternated with the Block Heads blocks being released every week.  My lay out will use a total of 49 sampler blocks of the 56 being released.  This allows me to pick and choose my favorites, or save some to piece into my quilt back.

I am also giving instructions for the 8″ version.  Due to the 8″ size, the block for this version has slightly different proportions (the corner squares are smaller in comparison to the rest of the block) see the lay out below:

Smaller Corner Squares on 8″ version

Here are the individual block requirements, cutting for the whole quilt, and yardage requirements for the 6″ block version:

And, here is the same information for the 8″ block size:

The solids that I am using for my quilt are Moda Bella Solids in Off-White (9900-200) and Moda Bella Solids in Etchings Slate (9900-170).  I hope that you are fortunate enough to be able to purchase your solids in your local quilt shop.  If not, Bella Solids, are the basic of the month at Fat Quarter Shop and are 20% off through the end of this month (tomorrow 2/29/20).

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! Corey

Thank you for the layout information. I am trying the 12″ blocks and beginner. Will you be doing a breakdown for 12″ blocks? I love your explanations that are not intimidating me to keep trying!

Wow! I never knew to even look for the green button. Thank you so much. I have been waiting for your layout. It is so crisp and allows for movement of blocks to get their true uniqueness. Thank you for sharing.

Where are the alternate blocks head blocks found? Thanks!

  10. Cathy says:

Perhaps I missed it, but is there a yardage amount for the 8″ layout? I thank you for this! I’m referring to the Moda Solids yardage.

    • Corey says:

The yardages are in the last column.

      • Diane Evans-Spackman says:

These are the alternate blocks, right? (I had the same question…) They just don’t look like them…perhaps until you get them with the other blocks?

        • Corey says:

I haven’t made any of the alternate blocks. In my layout above the blocks I have pictured in my lay out are the standard blocks that have released every week. Does that answer your question?

  11. Tracy Erwin Volansky says:

I can’t wait to use this layout! I’m always a sucker for a chain pattern and I know it’s gonna be amazing with the sampling of all the various blocks. Thanks for putting this together for us!

  12. Amber Sigurdson says:

I really like this layout… but I am thinking of using it for some orphan blocks that I have… would just doubling the measurements for the 6 inch work for a 12? or is the math subtract half an inch, double and re-add the half inch?

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
