Sunday Best Quilts Sampler Block 1

Sunday Best Sampler in Sugarcreek

Good Morning Sunday Best Sampler Sew Alongers! =)  Today is the day we have been sew excited for–we are beginning our sampler sew along.

If you are new to my site and haven’t yet heard about the sew along, you can read more about it here.

The first block we will be making is the On a Whim block.

The On a Whim quilt was designed by Sherri–here’s a picture of her beautiful quilt from Sunday Best Quilts using this block:

And here’s a little peek of her On a Whim block in her Sampler quilt:

You will want to make sure to visit Sherri’s blog as she’ll be sharing a little bit more about her design.

You can see where I have used the On A Whim block in my quilt–it’s the center block, 2nd row from the top.

I used Sugarcreek Fabrics for my sampler quilt.  I’ve been so excited to see that Sugarcreek has started shipping to quilt shops just this week.  I know many of you have been waiting for it.  It is always so much fun when the fabrics start hitting shops–I am so fortunate to have a number of quilt shops locally and always look forward to seeing all of the new fabrics in person.

If you missed the fabric requirements for the sew along, you can find them here (along with the solids I used to coordinate with Sugarcreek).

And now on to the On a Whim block pattern (just click below to open the PDF):

Keep in mind you do need a copy of Sunday Best Quilts in addition to the block pattern to complete each weeks sampler blocks.

I was also asked to provide coloring pages as I did during Moda Blockheads so you will find that below for those of you that like to do a little bit of planning before you begin to cut and sew:

Sherri and I have some fun things planned during this sew along.  If you are on Instagram, be sure to use #sundaybestquiltssampler and tag us so we can see your progress!  That hashtag is sure to have lots of pretty inspiration as well.

Happy Sewing!

So excited to make this! It’s not even 6:30 here, but the pattern is printed and as soon as my coffee kicks in (and my kids are up) I’ll start cutting. Thank you so much!

I’m pulling from my stash of blue/greens fat quarters I’ve been saving forever. I hope that they look as beautiful as yours does.

Today is my short workday! WooHoo! I have a hair appointment and then it’s quilting time all weekend! My husband will be farming so the house is mine! LOL

I have ordered a fat eighth, and 12 fat quarters of Sugarcreek, plus white and the book. I would like to order another precut but which, a jelly roll or layer cake? I haven’t got my book yet so I’m unsure of those squares being larger than 2.5. If so then a layer cake is better. Can you let me know which to get? Thank you

I am super excited about this quilt along and I have block one completed in the beautiful Sugarcreek fabric. I love all the quilts in the book so this way I get to try each out, hopefully that will help decide on which one I want to make first. Can’t wait for the second block 🙂
