Buggy Ride Quilt and Free Quilt Block

Buggy Ride Quilt in Sugarcreek

Happy Tuesday Friends!  If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you saw a peek of this quilt yesterday. =)  And, today I am excited to tell you more about it.

Today is the 2nd day of the Moda Schoolhouse Blog Hop.  Last spring, each of the participating designers were asked to design an 18″ block featuring.  Since I was showing Sugarcreek fabrics (named after my hometown), I knew I wanted to design a block fitting for the area as well.

And you know if you follow me, (especially on Instagram) I am surrounded by farms, countryside, and all things Amish.  My Sunday Slowdown posts each week on Instagram show scenes from my neck of the woods.

So, I designed an Amish Buggy block–which I made into a pillow:

The buggy fabrics on both the quilt and the pillow are from my Sugarcreek wovens collection and all of the prints are from the Sugarcreek prints collection.

The Sugarcreek collection has just started shipping.  Sugarcreek wovens will be available soon.

I knew I wanted to make a quilt pattern using the block I designed and that I needed to make the quilt sooner rather than later.  And here it is. =)

I had the cutest little photo bomber as I took the pictures. =)  My Buggy Ride quilt is 66″ x 86″ and is Jelly Roll friendly.

I kept the prints in the same order they were in right out of the jelly roll, to keep that wonderful flow of soft, sherbet rainbow colors.

This was such a fun quilt to make.  And that beautiful quilting is by Kaylene Parry.  You can find her on Instagram @quilterlove66

I still need to bind my quilt but hope to check that off of the list soon!

The Buggy Ride quilt pattern is available in my shop right now on sale for just $5 through Sunday, September 29 .  It is available in both PDF and Paper versions.  And, even more fun….the one block pattern is free and you can download it below if you’d like to make just the pillow.  You can also collect all of the other 18″ blocks to create a sampler quilt—or make all kinds of pillows, wall hangings etc.

One note about the one block pattern…if you are using a charm pack, cut 2 1/2″ squares for the border.  A mini charm pack also works.

Here’s the rest of the Moda Schoolhouse blog hop schedule where you can collect the remainder of the blocks:

And just a reminder, the Sunday Best Sampler quilt along begins on Friday.

Happy Sewing!

Love this pattern but we need a good donkey pattern to go with it. I have two rescue donkeys and I seriously need a good pattern. Thanks and love your quilts.

Love your new quilt. I’m glad the donkey didn’t take a bit out of it. I didn’t find the Moda block.

LOL!! Sweet pic of your quilt and your friendly photo bomber! Happy, happy, “Peaceful” quilt. I can almost hear the clop, clop of the horses hooves. Clean and refreshing. Thank you for sharing your talents. Blessings.

As a shop owner, your links to FQS and your own website for patterns is a bit problematic! Encouraging customers to buy online instead of coming to their local quilt shop helps quilt shops CLOSE. We’ve had 3 of your lines but glad I skipped the new one with my sales rep yesterday.

I’m so sorry to hear this!–especially as I have designed shop exclusive patterns just for local shops with both my Sugarcreek line and Sunnyside Up….only available to customers at their local quilt shop (not online or in my own pattern shop) at my own expense. I did this just to support local shops!

What a cute and different block pattern! I love it! I love your photo-bomber, too! Thanks so much for sharing your amazing talent with us in all you do!

  10. Karen Mason says:

Than you Corey! If I didn’t shop online I would have never discovered you and other designers such as Sherri Mc Connell and your beautiful fabrics and books!

Corey, Love it as usual…. Love the patterns you make just for the quilt shops too. I do go in and buy fabric just so I can get the pattern. Although online shops do deter people from shopping locally, some women are unable to do anything buy online. They live out in the country and no where near a shop or are home bound. I love that you especially support your local shops in the Berlin/Amish area. Teaching classes, lending your quilts are samples, promoting them on your blog. You are amazing!!!!!

Thank you for the pattern! Love your photo bomber!

I love the buggy ride quilt. I live in Wooster and have grown up with the Amish all around us! :0)

  14. Michelle says:

A group of us have a quilt retreat every year in Sugarcreek. This buggy block will be a nice way to remember all the fun we have had. The photo-bombing donkey is adorable!!

I can’t get the Crystal Manning or the Basic Grey links to work.

hello Corey i try to print schoolhouse blocks and can’t do it . I need some help. Only Kansas Tr. print and rest not .Thank you .

    • Corey says:

I am not sure why none of the other blocks are working for you. You might try updating your PDF reader. Sometimes a needed update causes bugs.

  17. Susan says:

Very cute photo bomber! Very cute quilt. I saw this block without the triangle appliquéd on and could NOT figure out what that was! Now it’s all cleared up and a great choice.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
