Everday Best Quilt Block
This is a block that I have been wanting to try for awhile. When Gretchen asked for “beachy” blocks using blues/greens for the Sew New to Me VQB I thought it was a perfect time to try this block out. The block is a large block–finished out at 15.5″(so, too large for many bee swaps) which is what Gretchen wanted & to me it looks like a beach ball or looking down on the top of a beach umbrella. So, I decided to dive right in.
This block is a paper pieced block from the book Quilts With A Spin. I had originally checked this book out from my library but ended up purchasing it for myself–it’s got a lot of cool designs. It is a super easy paper pieced block in my opinion but, with 108 pieces(yikes) it was quite time consuming. I used wax paper to paper piece this one–it worked well and I think I might like it better than regular copy paper and definitely better than freezer paper(I think this is the most difficult to use).
The circles were quite easy to piece and I think the block came together beautifully.
Gretchen has received a lot of really neat blocks for her quilt. I think it is going to be such a great quilt!
it's fantastic! (and it does look like it took a long time to make… but so worth it!) ~Jessica
All I can say is WOW! The block is beautiful and I can only imagine the number of hours it took to create. That's one lucky bee member!
Fabulous block!! It reminds me of my Christmas tree skirt which is very similar, but larger.
so pretty and I love the separate rows of strips. the fabrics are great too.
So many seams! It's a gorgeous blocks. All the blocks are going to be so pretty together.

That is a really stunning block. Love the beachy colors together!
Such a beauty. The picture of the back is so cool.
It's a stunner! Everything about this block is fabulous. Ann 🙂
Wow! I love it. Especially the one that is back lite! 🙂 If only the quilt could take on that light all the time. 🙂 Great job.
This block is absolutely stunning! And don't let anyone tell you having wisdom teeth out is no big deal……they lie! Hope you have a sufficient amount of painkiller on board and that you wake tomorrow feeling much better. Remember to use ice!
Wow! That is a really pretty block! I love the colors and it totally looks like a beach umbrella. I like to use vellum paper (17 lb. weight, not the heavier vellum card stock) for paper piecing. It is a nice weight and holds up through the process.

I spent way too long trying to figure out why the bottom picture looked like stained glass & then realized it was the wrong side, haha!! Gorgeous work!
