Moda Blockheads Round 4
It is almost time for our next round of Moda Blockheads to start!
Round 4 is kicking off a week from today, March 23 and it is going to be so much fun! Let’s take a little walk down the Blockheads lane…
This quilt is my Round 1 quilt. It’s a scrappy mix of my favorite colors…all warm and happy. I used a lot of my own fabrics but also threw in some other favorites. I really enjoyed the applique blocks and how they played with the pieced blocks in this Round.
This next quilt is my round 2 quilt…also scrappy and wonderful. Round 2 was fun because there were so many different sized blocks. You just never knew what might be coming next.
For my Round 2 quilt, I used a scrappy mix of all of my own fabrics, but I made some blocks using just solids. I think those solids blocks add an interesting element to this quilt. Let’s not forget cute, little baby Frances posing on my Round 2 quilt! Isn’t she the sweetest little thing.
Round 3 is our most recent Moda Blockheads quilt. You may notice the theme of “scrappy” for this quilt too. It’s another scrappy mix of my fabric lines. These quilt alongs work so well for making scrappy quilts and equally well for using one fabric collection. It just depends on which way you’d like to approach it.
Those little alternating striped blocks are so pretty in this quilt. I really enjoy gray in a quilt. =)
So you might be thinking…”hmmm…do we see another scrappy quilt in the works?” You might be surprised to know that the answer is a re-sounding “No!”. =)
Round 4 starts next week and finishes up in the fall. So, I’ve decided I will be sewing with only Cozy Up for this round. That means I will have a perfectly “Cozy” quilt to “Cozy Up” up with when fall rolls around.
I am looking forward to sewing with these pretty fall colors again. Be sure to visit the Moda Fabrics blog today for a little bit more information about the Blockheads quilt along. They have more details posted over there. There are always some fun surprises along the way!
If you missed my blog post last night, I shared a fun, freebie pattern. along with a YouTube video. So be sure to check that out!
Just a couple more weeks to snag my March pattern of the month, Cotton Frock, for $5 in my Etsy shop.
Are you joining in on the Moda Blockheads fun? I’ll be sharing my blocks every Wednesday during the quilt along. =)
I will be back on Saturday for the next block in our Beautiful Day Mystery block of the month!…it’s a fun, easy one! See you then! Corey
Hi Corey, I love your idea of using your (one) line of fabric. I am not a scrappy quilter. Which begs the question – fabric requirements if using a fabric line?
Be sure to check out the Moda blog today!–they’ve shared a lot of great info…including rough guidelines for fabric.
I can’t wait to watch your Blockheads blocks with Cozy Up appear! And super excited to get the next block for the Beautiful Day sewalong. Thank you Corey for all of your inspiration!
It’s always such a fun sew along!
I love your work. You make beautiful quilt. Thank you for sharing your talents with me.
Thank you!
Great inspiration Corey. I’m looking forward to this rounds beautiful quilts.
It’s always fun!
Looks like kitty approves! Those are pretty quilts, that’s for sure. Thanks for the reminder that I still have a couple of UFOs that need my attention.
Those UFO’s can be persistent, can’t they! =)
Hi! I am a new subscriber, although not new to your beautiful fabric lines and patterns. I am definitely doing Blockheads 4 and started playing with fabric today. I am toying with the idea of doing Tim Holtz fabrics as my backgrounds and a light whisper-like block. Just itching to do something out of the box. Thanks for your continuing inspiration.
Oh how fun!…my oldest daughter is not that much into sewing and fabrics but Tim Holtz fabrics always catch her eye. =)
I am going to be using Spring Brook layer cake. Do we count the white on white as part of this or add 2 of some others. I also have a few fat quarters of it. Thanks.
You can use the white on whites as part of your background fabrics but I wouldn’t often use them for the prints in a block as they don’t provide enough contrast. Unless, you are using a dark background, then they work great!
Hi Corey
I’m so excited to be starting this. My first ever sew along, I’ve ordered my Cosy Up fabric. Can you tell me what fabric you’re using for the Background fabric please.
Many thanks
Elaine
I haven’t decided for certain but it will either be a white on white from one of my collections or Moda Bella solid in the color 9900-200. I love piecing with the white on whites because the blocks piece up so nicely!
I am loving this QAL…thank you for doing this. I would love to do the Moda Blockhead, but right now I think I currently am working on about 10 other quilts and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and think I need to get some things completed before I take anything new on. But, I’m definitely going to follow along and keep the patterns so I can hopefully jump in later or make at a later time. Thanks for sharing!
