Sunday Best Quilts Sampler Block 5
It is week 5 of the Sunday Best Quilt Sampler Sew Along. =)
Do you guys look forward to these Fridays as much as I do? I think releasing blocks on Fridays is just perfect–it means you have the whole weekend ahead of you to sew (if you want to).
Today’s sampler block features the Remembrance block from Sunday Best Quilts. It is going to take a fair amount of piecing so you might be glad that you have the weekend ahead of you. =)
In the book, Sherri’s blocks for the quilt are a scrappy mix of reds and white tone-on-tone prints.
For the sampler block, we are going to be making 4 Remembrance blocks. I chose to make each of my four blocks in one fabric but you could just as easily use all the same color, or go scrappy like the original quilt.
The fabrics I used for my block are:
I’ve been on a bit of a gray kick–well seriously though, when am I not on a gray kick…so I mocked up a gray version of Sherri’s quilt so you could see it in another color. I think this would be a beautiful fall quilt. It uses grays from my Sugarcreek collection as well as grays from my Strawberry Jam collection.
And now on to the block information for the sampler. You will need 4 Remembrance blocks to create one Remembrance sampler block. I am breaking the cutting information down for you to help you as you choose fabrics. You will need to reference your book for the sizes of each piece.
On page 39 under where it says “from the assorted red prints, cut” you will need the following pieces:
From the first size listed: (8) squares per block (a total of 32 to complete 4 blocks)
From the second size listed: (4) squares per block (a total of 16 to complete 4 blocks)
From the last size listed: (8) rectangles per block (a total of 32 to complete 4 blocks)
On page 39 under where it says “from each white tone-on-tone print, cut” you will need the following pieces:
From the first size listed: (1) square per block (a total of 4 to complete 4 blocks)
From the second size listed (4) squares per block (a total of 16 to complete 4 blocks)
From the third size listed (16) squares per block (a total of 64 to complete 4 blocks)
We are only making one block less than the pattern calls for so the cutting is only slightly less for the sampler quilt block.
As you work through the piecing you may find the following information helpful:
In step 1, you will be making 8 units per block
In step 2, you will be making 4 units per block
In step 3, you will be making 8 units per block
In step 4, you will be making 4 units per block
