Sunday Best Quilts Sampler Block 6
Welcome to week 6 of the Sunday Best Quilts Sampler sew along!
Today, we will be making the Linen & Berries block from the book Sunday Best Quilts. Before we start, I have been hearing some questions about the sew along from folks that have just stumbled upon it. So let me answer some of those questions really quick.
Question: What is the Sunday Best Quilts Sampler and how to I participate?
This is the Sunday Best Quilts Sampler. It features one block from each of the 12 quilts in the book, Sunday Best Quilts. You will need a copy of Sunday Best Quilts (available at your local quilt shop or signed copies available in my shop) to participate. And then, you will need to stop by either my blog or Sherri’s blog each Friday to get the free PDF that tells you which block to make, how many to make, and/or what borders to add. You can read about the sampler fabric requirements here.
Question: I just found out about the sew along. Is it too late to join in?
Absolutely not!–you can join in at any time. Some of the blocks are quicker to piece and some will take a little bit more time. We will be releasing the weekly PDF’s into December so you have plenty of time to catch up. Or, you can print them out and sew them sometime in the future.
Use the hashtag #sundaybestquiltssampler to post your blocks on Instagram and/or browse for inspiration.
And now, on to the Linen & Berries sampler block for this week.
Linen & Berries is one of my quilts in the book. It’s the quilt I designed for the Red & White section of the book. I had the best time picking out fabrics for this quilt.
I started by picking fabrics from my stash that I already had on hand. This is a great place to start when making scrap quilts.
Then, I started purchasing the additional fabrics I was going to need. I used a lot of Fig Tree fabrics for the reds as well as low volume fabrics. And I also used a fair amount of Sherri & Chelsi’s fabrics for the low volumes.
This quilt was so much fun to work on. It does have a lot of half square triangles but the scrappy palette kept things interesting.
When purchasing fabrics for scrappy quilts, be sure to visit your shops fat quarter section. Often times you can find little gems tucked away…fabrics that have been out of print that you might not be able to purchase otherwise. I had so much fun buying fabrics for this quilt. =)
For our sampler block, we just need to make one Linen & Berries quilt block–and I am certain you will find it faster than last weeks block. =)
These are the fabrics I used in my block:
29070-20 (dark gray print)
Here is the Linen & Berries PDF.
Just as I did last week, I am listing some helpful fabric cutting tips below so you know what to cut. The cutting instructions are on page 47 of Sunday Best Quilts.
Follow the cutting instructions as listed under the “light print fat quarter” section. You will not need the number listed in parentheses under that heading, just the first number. These are your background pieces.
Under the “red print fat quarter section”:
Cut the 2 large squares (these will be the large HST’s–in my sampler block, dark gray)
To use 5 different prints (red, pink, yellow, green blue) for the friendship star blocks as I did, cut (2) of the second size listed (under that same heading) for each print and (1) of the last size listed for each print.
And here is the coloring page for the block.
And, just for fun, I mocked up the Linen and Berries quilt using all Sugarcreek fabrics. It’s always fun to see what a quilt looks like in the most recent fabric line to hit quilt shops.
Be sure to stop by Sherri’s blog to hear about her Linen & Berries block. And if you are on Facebook, I have really been enjoying the blocks shared in my Facebook group.
And here’s a little rundown of what you might have missed this week:
On Monday, I posted “A Day in the Life” about a typical day around here. I was so excited about all of the nice comments left for me. I wasn’t sure if you all would like that sort of post…but you did. =) Thank you!
On Wednesday, I posted the 3rd in my Wondering Wednesdays series. Love this series so much!
And here’s what is happening next week:
On Tuesday, I am starting something new…”About Town Tuesdays”. I have so many fun places in my town…it’s not Ohio’s number one tourist destination for nothing! I am going to be sharing a peek into some of the fun things in and around my town. We are starting off with one of my local quilt shops. So, be sure to stop by then!
On Wednesday…it’s all about cake…Cake Mixes and Cake Boxes..giveaways will ensue and fun will be had by all. =) (Wondering Wednesday will be back again on 11/13)
On Friday, Sunday Best Quilts sampler block 7 is headed your way.
Have a beautiful weekend and see you back here next week! =)
I am loving this sew along! And I love your book. Thank you for including the extra instructions in your posts. Those have been so helpful.
Sherri and I have been really enjoying this sew along as well! And you are so welcome for the extra tips–the less thinking when sewing, the better! =)
This is such a fun Sew Along. I’m really happy you are including the helpful little tips. Makes things fast when cutting. I love this book, and being able to sew one of every block is so enjoyable.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed making all of the blocks too. I thought it would be fun…but it was so much fun! I am glad you are enjoying these blocks as well. =)
Can’t wait to see/hear about the fun spots in your hometown. I grew up in the Midwest (IL) and hope to make it to one of your OH events next year. Loving this quilt and your beautiful fabrics.
Pam!–I hope that you are able to visit too–you aren’t too far from me. =)
Beautiful block & fabric ❤
Thank you!
I missed the instructions for Remembrance Sampler Block and Lines & Berries Sampler Block, I have the pictures, but not instructions. Where can I find these or purchase?
Linen & Berries is the block you are leaving this comment on–so just scroll up and print out the PDF. Remembrance was week 5–so just look for the week 5 block (on my site) and print out the PDF. In addition to the PDF, you need to have a copy of Sunday Best Quilts. I hope that helps!
I am so excited to hear about your new About Town posts. My husband and I love Holmes County! We were just there for Charm Days and I bought LOTS of Sugarcreek patterns and fabric at Millers Dry Goods in Charm. I enjoy your blog so much and love your fabric and ideas!
You are brave to visit Charm during Charm Days!–that little town is so busy–but so much fun! =) Thanks so much for stopping by my site–the first About Town post will be up tomorrow and I hope you love it! =)
