April Bee Blocks Wrap Up

I had a lot of fun blocks in April but my favorite one of the bunch is this little gem that Kyra requested for Stash Busting Bee International.  The little squares started out at 1.5″ and finished within the block at 1″.  There are 144 of them total–all from my scrap bin.  I love this kind of piecing.  I am definitely more of a precision piecer as opposed to wonkiness.  Don’t get me wrong I love some good wonk but my heart lies with traditional piecing.  Love this little block.  It is really easy to see the kind of fabrics that I am drawn to–a lot of bright summery colors–no navys, purples, blacks, browns here. =)  Kind of made me realize where my stash may be lacking.

We did Red/Aqua string blocks for Lisa in the Red & Aqua Bee.  This group has done paper piecing every month since it started in February.  I think I’m gonna start calling it the paper piecing bee LOL! =)  And guess what’s up for May–Spider Webs.  Guess that means I need to start dusting off my paper again–wait, it’s still pretty dust free from April (hee hee).  I don’t mind paper piecing but for some reason I am very slow at it.  Could it be that I usually sew something together wrong once or 9 times?–This may have something to do with it. =)  I have done these little string blocks before and they are easy peasy–so no resewing this month.  Although I did sew through my finger while making this block.  I had to take a moment after that–quite a long moment.  Also had to figure out how to get the crazy needle out of my finger–I had to take a moment after that also. =)  I did manage to finish up the block though–priorities people!

My wonkiness for the month was for Jessica in the Sew New To Me VQB.  She requested Denise Schmidt’s Drunk Love blocks & sent out two blue solids.  Her fabric choices really let the block shine through.  I had fun with the skinny center strips and decided to spin the center just a tad. 

And the last April block was for Karen in the A Piece of Work A Bee.  She chose a bright, bright color pallette.  Definitely no fear of color from this gal. =)  I had to be quite thoughtful both in choosing from the fabrics I received and about placing them within the block to end up with a block that I felt was harmonious.  Karen asked for squares in squares which allowed me to fussy cut the center to utilize the Flora & Fauna fabric that I received.
