Blockheads Wednesday and Book Giveaway
We have a couple different things on today’s agenda.
First up, I’m so glad you are reading this today! My site had some trouble last week but hopefully all of the issues have been resolved. I am not certain what caused the glitch with last weeks post but things are seeming okay today…knock on wood. =)
First up, I want to share today’s Block Heads block. It is a 6″ block, Cups and Saucers, brought to us by Jo Morton. You will find the block pattern on her site.
For my block, I used a scrappy mix of fabrics. And, isn’t that little “plus” background wonderful? It is from my Strawberry Jam line of fabric. Strawberry Jam precuts have started shipping to your local quilt shops which means yardage isn’t too far behind.
If you are using the coloring page, here it is:
Next up, let’s chat about a fun new quilt book… “Moda All Stars: On A Roll”…it’s a Jelly Roll book. And it’s such a fun one:
This book is packed full of great patterns to make with Jelly Rolls–there are quite a few quilts in this book that I wouldn’t mind making myself. The quilt I designed for the book is Apricot Jelly.
Isn’t that photo just breathtaking?!?–My quilt uses a mix of my lines–you know me and my love of scrappy.
Moda All Stars: On a Roll is available in local quilt shops now and I have an e-copy to give away. Since it’s the first day of spring, leave me a comment with your favorite spring activity. I’ll draw a winner in two weeks so you have plenty of time to get those sunny comments in. =)
Chat soon!–Good luck and happy sewing. =)
It’s hard to pick just one, but planting the garden is a favorite. Looking forward to the summer harvest.
Going to the nursery and buying lots of colorful annuals to perk up my yard.
Cleaning up sewing area and opening the windows to get fresh spring air coursing through the house, seeing birds return and snow melt
I like the smells of melting snow and warming soil. And I saw a robin yesterday! That’s always a welcome sign and especially when we still have a lot of snow on the ground.
I know it’s Spring when the birds birds come back. I love watching for the Bluebirds and the Orioles.
My favorite spring activities are walking my dog and seeing the spring flowers pop up and hearing the birds sing…and Easter!!! 🌷
Springtime means it’s time to be planting our vegetable garden. Can’t wait for those home-grown tomatoes!
I enjoy seeing all the early flowers popping up to brighten the dreary days of winter.
My favourite spring activity is planting flowers, suddenly the world is so colourful again after so many months of white and grey.

I love forward to taking walks in the sunshine.
My favorite activity in the spring is gardening!
Watching the birds and hearing them sing as well as viewing the new green leaves pop out are my favorites.
I love riding my bike. When spring finally hits here in upstate NY, I will be hitting the road and training for a 40 mile ride to raise money for diabetes.

This is a tough one but I guess my favorite is to sit outside on the front porch with my friends and a favorite beverage.
I look forward to spring for the return of hummingbirds!
I’ve been in Florida many years but have fond memories of spring in Ohio where I grew up-loved the first sight of the tulips starting to pop up in the garden!
I love watching my flower gardens come back to life as the spring bulbs begin to bloom and the hostas spring back to life.
Time to clean up my flower gardens.
My favorite spring activity is planting a garden.
Being able to turn off the furnace and open up all the windows. I love the fresh Spring air!!
My favorite spring activity is the same as every other season – quilting! But in Spring I also carve out time to play in the garden. Thank you for the opportunity! I’d love to win a copy of this book!
We have lilac bushes and I get such a thrill seeing them bloom because that means I get to bring cuttings inside!
My Favorite Spring activity is getting outside after a long winter and going for a nice long walk
So hard to chose just one but I would say digging in the dirt and cleaning flower beds and planting spring flowers for some color
Favorite spring activity – planting the garden!
I love getting new baby animals, and gardening! Nothing smells better than freshly plowed ground for crops in the spring!
Spring is Green…In So Cal the hills are bright green before the hot summer months. This year we have a Superbloom of the state flower, Poppies so everywhere is Orange. The beginning of a quilt design!
Being outside when the air is crisp and the sun is warm, enjoying nature by planting flowers, hiking, watching bird busily build nest and tend to their babies, opening windows and cleaning them to freshen up the house. I love pretty much everything about spring!!
I love spring, after a dreary winter. My favorite thing is planting flowers and starting our vegetable garden.
Planting tomatoes for sure – nothing like a tomato from a home garden! Looking forward to nice weather and sitting outside to quilt/sew with tea or coffee. Thanks for the chance to win a lovely book!
Sorry – I don’t see my comment so I’ll do another one. Planting tomatoes are a favorite since I love home grown tomatoes. Sitting outside and sewing with a cup of tea or coffee is something I look forward to. Thanks so much for the chance to win a lovely book!
My favorite spring activity is also planting flowers. We have long dreary winters and the color and the green of everything leafing out always makes me happy.
Taking evening walks around the lake.

My favorite Spring activity is getting out into the woods! Seeing the animals nd new buds coming out. I love to be out there! Mushroom hunting for morel mushrooms!! I just love the newness of everyting! This year I will be trying pounding flowers! This at I will have my own fabric for my winter quilting to do lists!!
I like cleaning out the garden, getting ready for new growth!

Being able to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather and sunshine! Love to see the flowers beginning to bloom!
Every spring it just feels good to walk barefoot in the tender new shoots of grass that are emerging after the lawn has been blanketed with snow for so many months! It’s the little things in life 🙂
I enjoy watching for the crocuses popping up through the grass and the early sprouts of other plants. But most favorite activity is watching the birds at the bird feeders, houses, and their fun antics. sigh Spring is my favorite season!
Now that spring is here the farmer’s markets will be opening soon. Love really fresh produce.
I love to go hiking with my family in the spring. I don’t have to worry about freezing or burning up here in the south! There are lots of flowers blooming to enjoy.
Pulling out the winter leftovers from the flower beds, herb garden, berry patches, garden boxes…everything feels hopeful!
As a kid my favourite springtime activity was to put on my rubber boots and spend hours in the water and ice from the melting snow. But as an adult I would say that being able to walk outside again after the cold winter is now my fav thing. Thanks for this chance!
My favorite spring activity is watching the new born calves on the farm down the road. Yesterday I watched one stand up for the very first time.
Every Spring I go to MQX in April and to a quilt retreat in the beginning of May – listening for the peepers and flowers to peek out!
I love seeing the bulbs flowering, daffodils and tulips are 2 of my favorite flowers.
Spring here in CA used to mean a week at the beach with our girls on spring break. Now they are grown and working far away so we putter around the yard admiring our fruit trees and wild bunnies. I imagine when grand kids arrive we will hit the beach again. Sewing does happen too! 🙂
Spring just oozes new life! I love seeing the first green in my flower beds as perennials and tulips peak out of the soil. I love the warming sun after a long winter of seemingly endless snow. Bring it on, Spring!
There’s nothing like that first baseball game in the spring.
I have to say, I’m not really a “sampler block person”. Yet, every time I see your blocks for these posts it makes me think I might need to do one. Since I’m all about color, I suspect it is your fabric choices.
I just love spring! Everything seems to change overnight. My favorite spring thing is to look for wild honeysuckle and crab apple blossoms to cut and bring in to sweeten the air of our house.
Spring skiing on corn snow under blue skies!
For me it would have to be planting a garden, sweeping off the driveway, picking up sticks in the yard—really just anything to be outside and enjoy some sunshine. I live in the cloudy Midwest and the sunshine is a rare thing here in the winter.
Springtime means the trees start to green up! I enjoy walking the trails.
Taking a walk and breathe in all the fresh air
I nice walk in the cool morning, looking for the first sign of flowers poking up through the earth. Another new beginning ❤️
I love the change in the weather and the new growth of Spring. I love the smells and the sounds of early Spring.
I love watching for the robins and when my irises bloom. Both are very fleeting moments in my part of the country!

I like hiking in the mountains to see the wildflowers!
I’m looking forward to warmer weather, hiking with my husband and friends and playing outside with my grandson.
Weeding my flowerbeds and listening to all the birds.
I really love your block and the variety of fabrics…perfect for scrappy sewing! If opening the windows is an activity, then that’s my favorite spring activity! We have had a double dose of winter in the midwest and I can hardly wait for warmer weather! duchick at gmail dot com
Thank your for posting your pretty Blockhead and coloring sheet every week. Sew inspiring and helpful. I love your fabrics and designs Spring means is getting out to work in the yard again. Not that time here yet. Coming soon. My favorite part of spring is taking a break to sit on my yard swing and enjoy the flowers and the fresh air and birds and slow stitching.
I love planting flowers in the spring.
Planning my flower garden and shopping for plants.
My favorite (along with many that are mentioned before me) is to open the windows and get that fresh air in!! Airing the bedding, and the house makes me feels so rejuvenated! Love that smell – and its free!
I like to take leisurely walks with my dog through the park and neighborhood and take in fresh smells and colors!
My favorite spring activity is getting my bicycle out for a little spin. Still too much snow where I live for that but it is suppose to be 50 today, which will help a lot in melting.
Love to work in the garden and open up the house to air out!
I love cleaning out the winter blahs from the garden and planting pops of color for the spring. I also like making a quilt that matches the new items in the garden. Keeps me focused on both!
Starting my vegetable garden means it’s finally spring! And also watching the bulbs planted last fall finally bring some color! Thanks for the chance.
Looking for signs of Spring in the garden by hunting green shoots of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths is a favorite. This year we had a tremendous amount of snow and I can report very little visible damage in the plantings. Thanks for the chance in the giveaway.
clara-chandler@att.net
Our favorite activity is hunting morel mushrooms in the timbers in south central Iowa!
Quilting and gardening…quilting and gardening…
In MN it’s too early to garden, but not too early to enjoy the birds singing and watch the snow melting and plan the new perennials for my summer garden.
Spring is gardening and the first of many camping trips. Always find time to squeeze in some quilting.
We put in a whole new retaining wall in back late last year so I can’t wait to plant along it this spring!
My favorite spring activity? Sewing away while watching my husband work in the yard to make it beautiful again after winter!
Spring is when my frogs return – love hearing them at night – also it is tulip time!
I always plant Pansies on my March birthday. Already have seven containers going… think I might need to plant some more this weekend. Kids’ golf teams have starting practicing, too. I’m sure I’ll still squeeze some quilting in, as well! Thank you for the giveaway.
I hope this isn’t a duplicate. We put in new retaining walls late last fall and I can’t wait to plant around them this spring!
My favorite spring thing is getting in the kitchen and whipping up some lovely light deliciousness with all the seasonal fruits and veggies.
I love to take long drives and explore new places in the summer.
My favorite spring activity is looking for wildflowers in my back yard pasture. It’s a joy to find them coming up each spring!
I can’t wait to see some green! So anxious to get out in the gardens and see all the plants and trees waking up!
My favorite Spring activity is sewing new quilts.
I like to.get my pots all cleaned up.and ready to be planted with new flowers. I love all the colors and smells.
I’ve just started Spring cleanup in my flower beds (and wonder where all the debris has come from since I did cleanup in the Fall). I love checking out my daffodils that are popping up and some have the beginnings of bloom heads I can see. It won’t be long now and I will have some to bring into the house for color and fragrance. We were beginning to think our winter would never leave!
After having an appointment yesterday, which required driving through the country, I would say seeing all of the fruit trees blossoming, the green hills and the beautiful wildflowers. So beautiful!! =:)
My favorite Spring activity is cleaning up the yard and the flower beds.
My favorite Spring activity would be just taking a few moments, seconds sometimes, to stand or sit and soak up sunshine! Good for warming the mind, body, and soul and capturing the renewing spirit of the season.
My favorite Spring activity is swapping my Fall/Winter themed quilts with my Spring/Summer themed quilts. I love seeing the quilts I made years ago that are still some of my favorites.
My favorite thing to do is yard work, and of course quilting
sitting outside drinking our morning coffee
I love to plant flowers and do yard work, but I still love to work on my quilting. I just bought a new sewing machine and plan to utilize it as much as possible.
Getting the garden ready
I love to open all the windows to breathe in some fresh air.
I love seeing all the Spring flowers bloom.
I love being able to leave the windows open, have fresh air in the house, and listen to the birds chirping outside!
In my area, the trees are just beginning to leaf out and it’s great to see all the colors of spring in the bulbs bursting forth and breathing all the fresh air. It’s a treat to have windows open!
I love waking up our yard with some new color, that is, some new pretty flowers. It’s fun strolling through the nursery looking at all the gorgeous color trying to decide what will look good together in my space. Of course I won’t say no to a new project to quilt!
Opening my windows for a great breeze and seeing all of the bulbs that I planted last fall start to bloom.
Favorite Spring activity is driving up one certain road to see the line of daffodils pop up under the split rail fence that runs alongside the road. Then stopping and taking pictures AGAIN because I can’t resist. There’s such a feeling of hope to that moment.
I love gardening this time of year – cleaning up the yard, enjoying the daffodils….and I plan on using the table outside to do some quilting, too….Deb E
Thanks for sharing the peek into the new “On a Roll” book & for providing the opportunity to win a copy! This week it’s really warmed up and the last of our snow (from 6 weeks!) is mostly gone. My Favorite activity for the first week of spring this week, was taking my 5 yo grandson to the playground. It’s fun to see his joy as he’s able to get back to climbing, sliding and running around with his pals.
Spring is: that first time we leave the porch door open & hear the sweet “conversations” of the birds, new calves born on the farm & the first crocus peeking through the melting snow …. what a wonderful season!
Going for walks then open the windows and listening to the birds sing while I’m sewing.
If it weren’t so cold the windows would be open and I would be outside planting the garden. Jmikebalou (at) aol (dot) com
Normally it would be warm enough to be outside working in the garden. Not this year. It’s cold here.
I think my favourite thing to do in Spring is make the garden look presentable again. After the winter months it always seems to look unloved and unkempt, then the little green shoots start peeping through as the bulbs start growing and it’s time to start tidying up. I live on the east coast of Yorkshire in the UK so the weather can be very unpredictable but when Spring is here you can smell it in the air, lovely.
Having a spring clean, enjoy the spring flowers like tulip and narcissus and work in the garden are the things I like in spring
Beautiful quilt and a fun book! In the spring enjoy seeing the flowers like the first crocus and daffodils blooming in the yard and hopefully seeing plenty of sunshine!!
This spring is taking forever to come, we have had a couple normal weather days in the last month and now it’s back to cold and windy…but those couple of nice days put me in the spirit and my favorite thing to do this spring is paint my home a beautiful new soft Green/Blue by Farrow and Ball (expensive BUT the paint goes 3 times as far than normal paint) it’s so pretty and bright.
Next I’ve started to plan and purchase my spring flower bulbs. This ear I’m creating a cutting garden and I’m very excited!! Fingers crossed that the squirrels do not dig up and eat the bulbs !!
💕
My favorite thing in spring? Spring colored quilts, blooming trees and flowers and a lovely canoe trip. I just love the colors and warmth of SPRING!
Seeing the SUNSHINE more, and golfing!!! 🙂
I love watching the world turn green. Fresh leaves on the trees, shrubs, green grass, I just love it!
Hands down the planning and buying of plants and flowers for the yard and garden!
My favorite spring acitivity is to take a walk outside and enjoy all the beeautiful flowers and plants that start to bloom.
And if you would have told me as a kid that I would ever love to take walks, I would have flat out laugehd you in the face 😉
Let’s see … in NE Ohio my favorite spring activity is brushing a late snow off my car. Oh just kidding. I like to watch the birds on the feeder as I sew because my machine is right by the window.
Love walking and admiring the beautiful sprouting trees!
Spring in Florida is glorious! No humidity! It’s a great time to be outside exploring nature before it gets unbearably hot and humid!
I seriously love Apricot Jelly! That is my all-time favorite jelly roll quilt that I’ve seen. My favorite spring time activity, now that we live at high elevation in Colorado, is kind of strange to most folks: Sitting inside with some hand stitching on applique or a quilt binding during a snowstorm! (no, really!) I love snow storms in the spring, because they bring us more moisture ahead of the scary fire season, they accentuate the coziness of snugging up in my home that I love with an activity I find productive and soothing, and then it all thaws away very quickly so that the birds are chirping and little early-spring bulbs are peeking back out again very quickly. I love watching the spring-drunk squirrels going crazy all over the yard and leaping from tree to tree with their seasonal spike of energy. It’s all phenomenally different from spring in Florida when we used to live there!!
Spring means baseball, I love sitting in the (hopefully) warm sun and watching my son play baseball.
I enjoy watching my son play baseball in the spring.
Enjoying the spring sunshine and choosing flowers to plant.
I love to take a road trip once the threat of winter weather is behind us. It’s nice to see all the blooming plants wherever we travel.
I enjoy the nice spring weather. Opening the windows and have a nice cool breeze in the house while i quilting. Just finished some string squares and would love to border it with the white and gray (and the stars) as shown on your Apricot Jelly quilt!
love to put in flowers each spring!
I love when the flowers start to bloom, the grass turns green and the newborn calves get their legs under them and start bucking and jumping. Beautiful quilt! Thank you for a great giveaway.
My favorite spring activity is planting my flower and vegetable garden beds. I also love all the spring blooms! I really like your star border, so sweet!
nikilsend(at)outlook(dot)com
I love this Spring weather…. cleaning out the garden beds and putting out the hummingbird feeders! Planning the veggie garden!
i love watching all the trees begining to bud and bloom! time to start sprucing up the yard and get some veggies planted!
I love to open the windows and have fresh air blow thru the house!
I love the green coming back on the trees and yards in the spring. My favorite activity is heading to the greenhouse for some flowers!
I love taking my indoor plants outside, picking asparagus, and seeing the trees bloom.
Just moved and now have a back patio. I have enjoyed sitting outside, seeing things blooming and listening to nature. We all need to stop and literally smell the roses!
I love going for walks in the abundant conservation areas around me.
I love spring-I love to see the new baby calves and lambs, to hear the birds singing, to see the tulips and daffodils popping up, and enjoying a walk outdoors!
I love spring for so many reasons-Seeing the new baby calves and lambs, seeing the tulips and daffodils popping out of the ground, flying kites with my grandkids!
My favorite spring activity is Spring Cleaning! LOL! Not really. Planting flowers and anything outside is a must. Cleaning can wait for fall. 🙂
Spring means renewal for me. Open the windows and clear out the stale air and start the cleaning.
Spring is track season which I will truly miss this spring with my youngest now in college. My husband plants the garden and I love planting flowers in pots and throughout the yard. Thanks for offering Moda All-Stars On A Roll!
I love the longer days of sunlight in the Spring. Fresh air filling the house and seeing everyone out and about after a long winter. Thank you for your wonderful designs and the opportunity to receive a copy of the e-book Moda All-Stars: On a Roll.
Tea parties! In lovely spring dresses!
Hiking! I wait all winter in NW Montana for signs of spring to spend time in the beautiful outdoors! I love photographing Gods beauty & maybe climb a mountain or two!
Thank goodness we have quilting to get us through our long winters!
A year and a half ago I moved away from my small town and to the big city where I no longer have a garden plot and mainly shade in my small patch of grass. But this year I was able to sign up for a community garden plot! I am so excited to start digging in the dirt again! BTW, I love how you came up with Coriander Quilts!
My favorite spring activity is watching the snow melt😏 (and we had a LOT of it this year)
Looking forward to working in my flower and vegetable garden and enjoying the sunshine.
I like driving around and looking at the flowering trees. There is a one corner right by the interstate that has a collection of red bud trees. Even though it is out of my way I drive by just to see them
walking in the sunshine
