Blockheads Wednesday and Book Giveaway

We have a couple different things on today’s agenda.

First up, I’m so glad you are reading this today!  My site had some trouble last week but hopefully all of the issues have been resolved.  I am not certain what caused the glitch with last weeks post but things are seeming okay today…knock on wood. =)

First up, I want to share today’s Block Heads block.  It is a 6″ block, Cups and Saucers, brought to us by Jo Morton.  You will find the block pattern on her site.

For my block, I used a scrappy mix of fabrics.  And, isn’t that little “plus” background wonderful?  It is from my Strawberry Jam line of fabric.  Strawberry Jam precuts have started shipping to your local quilt shops which means yardage isn’t too far behind.

If you are using the coloring page, here it is:

Block 49 Coloring Page

Next up, let’s chat about a fun new quilt book… “Moda All Stars: On A Roll”…it’s a Jelly Roll book.  And it’s such a fun one:

This book is packed full of great patterns to make with Jelly Rolls–there are quite a few quilts in this book that I wouldn’t mind making myself.  The quilt I designed for the book is Apricot Jelly.

Isn’t that photo just breathtaking?!?–My quilt uses a mix of my lines–you know me and my love of scrappy.

Moda All Stars: On a Roll is available in local quilt shops now and I have an e-copy to give away.  Since it’s the first day of spring, leave me a comment with your favorite spring activity.  I’ll draw a winner in two weeks so you have plenty of time to get those sunny comments in. =)

Chat soon!–Good luck and happy sewing. =)

  117. Catherine Chambers says:

I think my favourite thing to do in Spring is make the garden look presentable again. After the winter months it always seems to look unloved and unkempt, then the little green shoots start peeping through as the bulbs start growing and it’s time to start tidying up. I live on the east coast of Yorkshire in the UK so the weather can be very unpredictable but when Spring is here you can smell it in the air, lovely.

This spring is taking forever to come, we have had a couple normal weather days in the last month and now it’s back to cold and windy…but those couple of nice days put me in the spirit and my favorite thing to do this spring is paint my home a beautiful new soft Green/Blue by Farrow and Ball (expensive BUT the paint goes 3 times as far than normal paint) it’s so pretty and bright.

Next I’ve started to plan and purchase my spring flower bulbs. This ear I’m creating a cutting garden and I’m very excited!! Fingers crossed that the squirrels do not dig up and eat the bulbs !!

I seriously love Apricot Jelly! That is my all-time favorite jelly roll quilt that I’ve seen. My favorite spring time activity, now that we live at high elevation in Colorado, is kind of strange to most folks: Sitting inside with some hand stitching on applique or a quilt binding during a snowstorm! (no, really!) I love snow storms in the spring, because they bring us more moisture ahead of the scary fire season, they accentuate the coziness of snugging up in my home that I love with an activity I find productive and soothing, and then it all thaws away very quickly so that the birds are chirping and little early-spring bulbs are peeking back out again very quickly. I love watching the spring-drunk squirrels going crazy all over the yard and leaping from tree to tree with their seasonal spike of energy. It’s all phenomenally different from spring in Florida when we used to live there!!

  129. Linda Menkes says:
