Blooming Star Free Quilt Pattern
Good Morning Friends!–today, I am re-sharing my free pattern, Blooming Star.
Blooming Star is a pattern I shared 7 years ago designed to showcase an RJR line of fabric. As the years passed, the link I had originally provided is no longer available as the fabrics it was designed for are no longer in print.
I decided to re-color and provide an updated link as I’m sure many of you haven’t had the opportunity to download this pattern (and may have never even seen it if you are a new follower) and may wish to do so. I used to work with a lot of different fabric companies designing patterns to showcase lines of fabric prior to designing fabric for Moda. Many of these patterns are no longer available and I may need to consider periodically offering them once more.
Rather than offering Blooming Stars as a paid pattern, I think it’s fun to leave it free for all of you. =)
I especially love this gray/black version using Primitive Gatherings fabrics! These fabrics will be available later this year. Blooming Star finishes at 72″ x 96″. The blocks are big…24″ so this quilt comes together pretty quickly as you only need 12 blocks to complete it.
You will find the free pattern here.
It is a yardage based quilt rather than using precuts so you can choose your favorite prints to highlight. I had to see what it would look like in Spring Brook:
Spring Brook fabrics are out but becoming harder to find..especially the blue colorway. If you have been considering purchasing some of them to add to your stash, I would suggest doing so pretty quickly. And, if you are a shop that still has the blue florals, leave a note in the comments as I’ve had people looking.
And one more red/white/blue option–these are Belle Isle fabrics (also available later this year).
I wish you all a wonderful Monday & Memorial Day. Corey
Thanks for the free pattern – great to see it in your new lines!
It looks so different depending on the fabrics, doesn’t it!
Thank you Corey, for the free pattern, it is lovely!!! I am a new follower and loved reading a little of your history, and look forward to more of your older patterns that you might release in the future.
I’ve been doing this for so long I kind of forget about all of the patterns I’ve designed that have gone out of print or are not available any longer. It will be nice to bring some of them back. =)
Thank you! That block will make a great single Christmas candle mat. Or fall, or spring, or Halloween….
You are so welcome–it really would!
Thank you for this free pattern. So many options for this quilt.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for this pattern, I love it and have it saved for future use!
Perfect!–it’s fun to have those patterns saved for when you need a little project. =)
Thank You for the free pattern!! I really like it in your fabric and I love the red white and blue because I feel very patriotic!! I may have to make both! Again Thank You Barb
It would be fun to make it in more than one version–the fabrics make it look so different!
I love how you recolor your quilts in different fabric lines so we can see how they will look. I am very color challenged and find it difficult to see how a quilt will look in different fabrics. A lot of times I will pass up a pattern just because I can’t picture it in the fabric I like. Thanks for the free pattern!
My mom is the same way and she has had me mock up quilts in different colors and/or fabrics so she can get an idea of what it will look like. It makes such a difference seeing the quilts in different fabrics!
I love Spring Brook. I participated in the Serendipity QAL with Fat Quarter Shop using Spring Brook Fabric. I love the quilt!
I’ve really enjoyed sewing along with Serendipity as well. =)
Thanks Corey love the pattern. Now to get the fabric.
That’s the fun part!
Wow!!! Thank you for the FREE pattern. I love it each of the lines, tomorrow I will be off to shop @ my preferred Quilt Shop!
You are so welcome and I hope you had a fun shopping day!
Thank you for the beautiful “STAR” quilt pattern. Love your quilt and the gorgeous “Blooming Star” fabric. Hope to get on it soon.

You are so welcome! We had a lovely holiday–I hope that you did as well. =)
Thank you for the free pattern – it’s lovely and as a new quilter I hadn’t come across it before. Love it in Spring Brook!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for the beautiful pattern! I love how it looks in Spring Brook and red, white, and blue fabrics.
You are so welcome!–I thought it was so pretty in some of these different fabric lines. =)
Thank you so much for the free pattern. It’s a beautiful quilt. This is the weekend I make my Christmas List for handmade gifts. Usually the list is unrealistic but this year I’m committed to a smaller and more doable list. Family members are already speculating who might be on the list. Someone will definitely get this in red, white and blue. Might be hard to let go of it once finished.
That is such a fun tradition!–I bet they all really look forward to seeing if they made the list. =)
Great block! I will save it for a future project. Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for this free pattern I am hoping to locate / purchase this pattern Mini medallion from 2014? Is this pattern available I saw the picture here but not any additional info The finished quilt from Sew Mama Sew, designed by Corey Yoder from Little Miss Shabby, is about 28″ square. Thank you

Thank you for the pattern. I love it. I might just make one block and some borders around it. I like to make wall hangings for my apartment. ❤️
One block would make a wonderful wall hanging sized quilt–especially with the addition of the borders.
Hi Corey, Many thanks for the free pattern. I have to tell you this long holiday weekend I’m working Spring Blooms. I’m loving this project and I love your Spring Brook collection.
