December $5 Pattern of the Month [Barn Star 2!]
It’s December friends!…that means it’s time for a new $5 pattern of the month. I’ve decided to go with the Barn Star 2 pattern for this month.
I feel like many of us have done some fun scrap busting from our fabric stash and this is a great pattern to continue that trend. Ryan & I (and Tiggs! and even a peek at Frances!) filmed a video chatting about Barn Star 2 so you can get a better look at it.
You can watch the video here.
In the video I promised some new colorings of this quilt using fabrics that are currently in quilt shops…so here they are!
First up, this is what Barn Star 2 could look like using Lovestruck by Lella Boutique. Lovestruck is in quilt shops now. I thought it was fun to see what Barn Star 2 would look like with a darker background. Wouldn’t this be a lovely baby quilt! At 40″ square, it’s such a nice size for baby quilts.
The next version is made using Dandi Duo by Robin Pickens. Dandi Duo is set to be in quilt shops this month.
The last version I mocked up uses Starberry. I know that these fabrics won’t be available until late spring 2024 but I wanted to show you what it would look like in a holiday line of fabric. There are always so many pretty options for holiday fabrics and I think Barn Star 2 would be a lovely table topper or wall hanging to add a festive touch to your holiday decorating.
That gives you a few different ideas for how Barn Star 2 might look like in other fabric options. As I mentioned in the video, this is also an excellent scrap busting quilt if you wanted to work primarily from your scrap bin. You’d need background and border fabric to complete the quilt top.
And for fun, if you wanted to do a lot of scrap busting, here’s what 4 Barn Star 2’s would like if assembled into a larger 80″ square quilt:
You can purchase the Barn Star 2 pattern in my Etsy shop here.
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful day! Corey
I would like to purchase one of your sheep sweatshirts, but can’t decide on which size – medium or large. Do they run true to size? I usually wear medium size sweaters.
If you scroll through the photos, the last photo has the garment measurements listed. In my video, I am wearing a size large if that is helpful!
Corey! Hi!
I love your barn star 2 pattern in all variations. Thanks for doing that.
Can you tell me what the quilting pattern is in the original version? So pretty!
You’ve probably watched the video by now and heard me chat about that but just in case, it’s called Rainbow. The link to the quilting design is also found in the description box below the video.
I am collecting all of your barn star patterns hoping to recreate different colorways of the seasons so I can change them out. I absolutely love them – thank you for creating such beautiful patterns.
You’re so welcome!…thank you for your kind comments!
I’m new to your blog. I would like to know if there is a subscription for the $5 block of the month. If there is how do I subscribe. If not, where do I purchase the monthly block.
I love this barn star pattern. What level is it? Is this a beginner friendly pattern?
What is the taupe colored fabric used in the border of this quilt? It’s beautiful!!!!
In the photo at the very top, all of the fabrics are from one of my previous fabric lines, Sunnyside Up.
