Leap Day Superior Thread Giveaway
I was fortunate enough to be contacted by Cindy of Live a Colorful Life to see if I’d be interesting in trying out some Superior Thread. Well, I’m always up for trying out a new product and a great thread can mean the difference between a stellar project or time spent with a seam ripper…if you know what I mean! =p
I opted to try the MasterPiece Thread:
MasterPiece Cotton Thread
MasterPiece by Alex Anderson. Nature’s finest thread. #50 extra-long staple Egyptian-grown cotton for piecing, detail quilting, bobbin, lace, and applique. Very smooth with virtually no lint.
I’ve had a chance to work with this thread for several days now and my first impressions have been great. I pieced the block above using this thread and was very happy with the thread–it’s very lightweight & smooth. My Bernina gets a little bit snaggy about certain types of thread but, so far has been getting along great with the Superior Thread. The recommended needle for this thread is a Topstitch 80/12 which I’m sure most of you have on hand all of the time.
I’ve also been using this thread to quilt my Pillow for the Pillow Talk Swap–although not advertised as a quilting weight thread, I wanted to use a thread that would bury itself nicely and I have been happy with the results. I’ll share pictures of that project with you a bit later.

I use the King Tut from Superior Thread & love it. They have a great web site and thred clubs. They are thred specialists.
Thank you for the great recommendation on the thread. I buy my thread from Superior, but it is so overwhelming to try to pick out just the right one…there are sooooo many choices. I am going to give this one a try! Those little hands on that thread make me want to kiss them through the screen. There is nothing like a sweet soft babies hand!

Count me in…especially when you said very little lint! I get so frustrated when sewing along and then have to stop to clean out all the lint from the fabric and tread. Thanks for sharing this product, something I will try. Suz

This thread looks like a “one upper” for novice machine quilters and I’d love to try it.

Yes, I was captivated by that little helping hand too. Arent their little hands so gorgeous, soft and squishy.
I enjoy using King Tut for both hand and machine quilting. But that is the only Superior thread I have used so far.

Corey, I use King Tut for machine applique and love it. I also use their Bottom Line for the bobbin. It is thin but strong so you can wind more thread on the bobbin. Cuts down on having to keep refilling bobbins.

it works for black and white and red but any time I try to match up
a specific color I am way wrong

HI I am happy to hear that someone has offered a better thread to use, Here I have heard many who Quilt and sew state that we have to find better thread and WHERE would that be, We (Great Falls) have been dealing with many a sites and offers but we still have yet to find a good spoil of thread. Masterpiece… masterful! My “Go-To Girl” of threads… great dance partner with the King (Tut) and I almost exclusively use every other kind of Superior thread in any way I can!

I love Superior Threads. I pretty much piece everything in a light gray which is almost silver. I have lots of solid colors, tone on tone and even metallic. The metallics are fabulous to work with.

Aww a hand model for the thread. I love this thread, I use it on my long arm. I hadnt thought to use it on my regular sewing machine. Things that make you go hummmmm.

Oh I am so glad that I haven’t missed out on this. I’ve really been wanting to try Masterpiece. I am really big into EPP and some say it tends to break, but I really wanted to try Masterpiece to have for machine and hand work. So I would love a chance, thank you!!

I’m suddenly insecure about my thread! I use Gutermann – I have never had any problems with it when I piece. I don’t do my own quilting except for small quilts. I would LOVE to try some different thread.
