Missing Quilt Market Layer Cake Giveaway!
Good morning friends! As many of you know, this weekend is International Quilt Market in Houston, Texas. Many years I am able to attend and share my newest fabric line with quilt shop owners. I also always look forward to chatting with all of my Moda friends.
International Quilt Market is one of the few times that many of us get to see each other and it’s always so much fun to chat with everyone and catch up. Not only talking quilty business but also hearing what’s been going on in their lives over the last year. It’s really such a treat and I always leave so inspired and ready to dive into work.
This week, my fall was jam-packed with some things I’ll be sharing about later and I wasn’t able to fit the trip into my schedule. So, I reached out to Moda to see if I could spread some cheer rather than being bummed I’m not there. =) I always think that the best way to bring yourself up is to spread joy to others. Not that I was too far in the doldrums…just that it’s always fun to share with others.
With that being said, in today’s video, I have picked three of my favorite fabric lines (and am showing a bonus 4th favorite) from the lines that are showing this weekend from Moda to quilt shop owners. Of course I am a big fan of my line that is showing, Abloom, but I also liked so many of the other fabric lines. I fell in love with fabrics before I started sewing so I always love all of the new pretties. The fabric lines that are showing to quilt shops now will be in shops in the spring.
And here’s the fun giveaway part, I will be shipping off the three layer cakes that I showed in today’s video to three giveaway winners (one to each person).

I love your videos and your line of fabrics. Thank you for sharing. I love all of the collections you have shown, but my top pick would be Pumpkin Spice. I think the colors are so reminiscent of fall I could almost hear the leaves crackling underfoot and feel the crispness of autumn on my face as you were showing them.

I was so surprised to find out you aren’t going to Quilt Market, but very glad for your Sat video! I appreciate your iron info, which is a question many ask online and I usually read comments. I liked all of the new fabrics you showed. The Purrfect Christmas is a different style for me, but the cat w/candy cane was too cute and my choice. I love the Pumpkin Spice line of fabrics. The prints and colors are reminiscent of fabrics from the 1800s. I think they would look amazing made up into a classic quilt block sampler quilt. Thank you so much for sharing, Corey. You’re awesome!

I love this line not only for the beautiful colour’s but it would make a beautiful quilt to honour my 16 year old kitty I recently loss to cancer. It is hard to pick one of the layer cakes especially between fig tree and Lisa B’s. Each has their own beautiful color palettes and design. Therefore I would be thrilled with either! What beautiful fabrics you shared in your video from upcoming lines. While hard to choose, I think the new Fig Tree line was my favorite. It had unexpected colors and designs which intrigued me. I loved the pumpkin spice from Primitive Gathering too though.

Hi Corey, my favorite layer cake was the Buon Natale. I love the colors, but my favorite thing about that fabric line is the beautiful prints, especially the large floral. The collections that feature seasonal colors, but whose prints are just beautiful floral types, to me give added longevity to carry over the projects into the next season. Just an added comment, the charm pack you picked caught my eye as well. I love the saturated colors, the watercolor effect, the birds, the Christmas cactus, and

This time of year is almost overstimulating with all the new collections showing. If course I want them all! I thought the Purrfect Christmas collection was so cute. My orange gal, Pumpkin, would love to snooze on a quilt made with that fabric. I am also in love with Pumpkin Spice. One of these days I will get brave enough to try one of Lisa Bonjean’s patterns with the tiny, tiny 1/2 square triangles.

I have become a Fig Tree fan in the last year or so and the new Buon Natale layer cake you showed really caught my eye.

I always look forward to having Saturday morning coffee with you. I have a new iron that is a Black and Decker that I love as it has a little bit of weight to it. I have recently have been use the Acorn Product to press a nice flat seam. Love all the new fabric that you shared but my favorite is the Pumpkin Spice. I love the rich warm colors. My favorite fabric collection shown is Buon Natale. I too adore those reds and greens. I am using her Christmas fabrics today to work on Joanna’s Red & Green Quilt Challenge. This is a collection I will be purchasing soon as a preorder. The question is how much since each fabric could be the last ever made. Lol! One fun thing with giveaways would be to pretend you are so-and-so’s sidekick designer. Make something with your spin and share. This could be fun with any early giveaways or scraps purchased. A hashing could be used to help advertise the collection and designer before it comes out.

I’m partial to Buon Natale or Good Christmas in Italian. Love the prints and the color palette. So fun and festive. I can easily image using in both holiday quilts projects as well as non holiday items due to the great prints. Thanks for sharing and the sneak peek.

The rich deep colors of Pimpkin Spice really appealed to me, especially the cheddar colors!! But all the colors and prints are lovely and would love to win this “cake”..

Purrfect Christmas would not be my normal choice, but I loved the whimsy! Plus, 3 of my granddaughters are crazy about cats and I want to make all of my grandchildren Christmas quilts.

I’m planning to use Coriander Colors fat quarter bundle and or Peachy Keen bundle to make Triangle Toss, a pattern you designed, featured in McCalls Quilting May-June 2012 issue

I think my favorite is the one from FigTree. Buon Natale. As you were flipping through those fabrics, my mind was going to how cute tote bags and throw pillow cases I could make. But like most quilters, they would probably sit on my shelf waiting for that perfect pattern.

Hi Cory, I just smiled when you opened up the Purrfect Christmas which ended up being my favorite. The cats and mice would make up a playful project while some of the more traditional fabrics a holiday project. I am always looking for fabrics that I could include in some foundation piecing and this layer cake turned on some ideas. I had to laugh about the upside down prints. I’m watching this on my phone, and when the prints were upside down I would try to turn my phone to get a look at them, but then the phone screen would spin back where everything was upside down again, lol. Then, I actually did that a couple of more times before you realized what was going on and turned the layer cake right side up. Hey, I’m livin up to my hair color, blonde. 🙄

I can see why each of the Layer cakes caught your eye. The Pumpkin Spice and Buon Natalie fabric lines are gorgeous. But, Purrfect Christmas layer cake makes me think of my grandchildren Randal and Arabella and how much fun it would be to find a project to create a new sew special memory.

My suggestion for the layer cakes being shipped: photocopy the printed side of the cardboard(shows fabric SKU’s & designs for cutting fabrics) for each packing, if being sent rolled up.

I love the Purrfect Christmas bundle. My hubby is allergic to cats so since our family big guy , Buddy – a chocolate siamese 19 lb chonky love ,passed away we have never replaced him. I have made cat quilts for my step daughter in Australia and for our granddaughter in Florida but haven’t made one for me. My current service dog reminds me of our Buddy in so many ways…she has cat like traits. But I still miss that purring bundle of happiness and love.
Hi Corey! I love that you did this. There’s nothing like seeing an entire line of fabric in person (or video-person). I used to own a quilt shop and it was my favorite part of the job! Anyway, I love that you showed these AND I love how generous and supportive you are with other designers. Of course, all the lines are spectacular including that cute little charm pack that you shared, but if I have to pick a favorite it would be Buon Natale by Fig Tree Quilts. I also have to add that Abloom is gorgeous too and I am very excited to be doing the Designer Mystery 2025 at Fat Quarter Shop in which it is the featured fabric. Thanks for being an awesome designer, educator, and inspiration deliverer! We ALL really appreciate!
I can’t believe it but I think I love Purrfect Christmas the best. They are all beautiful but this one made me smile!
Thank you for showing different designer’s fabric lines. Most other designers typically only highlight their own lines. That shows how selfless you are! I liked the first one best just because of its cross seasonal appeal. I have big intentions of keeping up with the seasonal decorations but rarely get it all done on time as I’m a great starter but not so much a finisher. Thank you for all of your posts and communications! I look forward to them all. I stumbled on your video technique for the 2 inch binding and have been hooked ever since! And with much better bindings on my quilts I might add lol. You even made me lose my fear of yellow with my favorite line from any designer, Buttercup & Slate that can’t be found anywhere now. Your love of family, fabrics and faith shine through. Thank you for all of that!

I love the kitty fabric. My aunt loves cats and lost her last cat this year. I have to move her from assisted living to memory care and I have always wanted to make her a bed quilt. I recently semi-retired and so just want to be ball and chained to my sewing machine. Just waiting for the last of the leaves to fall and then after the raking let winter come. Woo Hoo!

I liked all the fabric layer cakes you showed however “Perfect Christmas” is my favorite!!! My twin granddaughters would love a quilt made with the kitties!!! It would make a great donation quilt for a child too.
All of the layer cakes are very pretty. As I am working on the quilted witch, Pumpkin Spice would be useful but Christmas is comng.

While all of the fabrics are beautiful, I prefer the Fig Tree pack. I make lap quilts for nursing homes and use fabrics that can be used all year long as opposed to seasonal. Your quilts and designs are beautiful.

Hi Corey. Now I’m a dog person. But 2 months ago I found a frighten baby kitten on my back fence. It took me, 4 neighbors and two hours to catch him. A month later a friend called and had found a very tiny kitten…so small. I brought him home to rescue. Needles to say I am now officially a cat lady. Haha. Love them so much. When I saw the Purrfect Christmas layer cake I was inspired to make a quilt. One is black (tuxedo) and one is a gray tabby. Love your Saturday morning shows. You, me, a cup of coffee and my little family of three. Peaches (pup) Percy and Puck. 🥰

I liked buon Natale. I make quilts for children at our local hospital that are in for treatment of abuse or neglect. This would be a great line for a girl.

I love the Pumpkin Spice fabric! Such a great range of colors and small prints. The leaves are quickly coming off the trees in northern Michigan, but it’s been a lovely autumn. P.S.: I enjoyed seeing your Everlasting quilt in the background. I enjoyed making that quilt so much. It stretched my skills and I was so proud of myself for adapting the pattern for four-at-a-time geese and some strip piecing.

Thanks for answering my question today! Nothing like a good ol’ $27 iron to get the job done!! One to the layer cakes…TBH, I would have to choose the kitty cats!! Since I’ve been teaching both of my granddaughters how to sew/quilt they have been diving into my stash. They are about the only ones who would be allowed. So I am going to start them their own stash…such a great idea showing some new collections! And love that Charm pack collection. Just stunning

The colors in the cat collection are so vibrant, the spice pieces have a warm cozy feeling, and the buon natale has unusual shades of red and green. It is the unusual shades of red and green that I love the most.

I love the Lisa Bongean line Pumpkin Spice, it is reminiscent of my favorite reproduction style prints and the colors were beautiful, but my number one was Fig Tree Buon Natale, the medium sized florals were what caught my eye the most. The color palette was beautiful. There are always so many pretty fabrics and so little time!

Hi Corey, As always I loved your video! I have the same Hamilton Beach iron which I also purchased at Walmart. I loved it so much that I purchased a second one before I moved from California to Texas just in case they didn’t have one here. It’s still in the box waiting to be used 3 years later. I loved all three layer cakes and would be grateful to win any one of them, if I must pick I think I like the Fig Tree best but the Primitive Gatherings and Kitty one are close seconds. Great video today covering lots of topics. I agreed with you about irons. Buy a moderately priced steam iron that you don’t mind replacing if necessary. I don’t like spraying fabric with water because I find that pressing wet or damp fabric stretches it.

I like both the Pumpkin Spice and the Purrfect Christmas. I am currently making a 12″ block for each month for each of my siblings and the Pumpkin Spice would work for both October and November. However, the Purrfect Christmas would work well for a lap quilt for my daughter who likes cats but is allergic to their dander.

All are great designers. The fabrics were all beautiful but as usual Fig Tree and her beautiful bold floral won my heart. She just simply just pumps them out in sometimes the most interesting colors but always staying true to the depth and details that grab the eye🥰
My favorite is Buon Natale, which means “Good Christmas” or “Merry Christmas” in Italian. I love everything about it, the colors and variety of prints, but what caught my attention to start with was the name, Buon Natale. My daughter, who is my long-armer, is named Natalie (little one born at Christmas).

Today’s was interesting to hear your thoughts about the various fabric lines. It’s hard to say which is a favorite, but I think if I had to choose it would be Buon Natale because, as you mentioned, it would easily work nicely mixed with other lines, not specifically Christmas themed. HI Corey – I’ve never met a Layer Cake I didn’t like LOL!! I really like the Pumpkin Spice. I was so happy to hear that you purchased the Kim Diehl book for that fall pattern because I did the same thing. Great minds think alike? Thank you for sharing your comments on the different fabric lines and different ways to use them. or what you could group them with. I am sorry that you didn’t make Houston, but it was more fun spending a quiet Saturday morning with you. On the irons, I use Hamilton Beach irons also. Best ones I have found and at a reasonable price. I was told that when you put water in the iron, make sure it is turned off first, fill it, and then turn it on, and that will help with the leaking and spitting. We have very hard water here, so I buy a gallon of distilled water at the store and mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with my tap water. Most iron manufacturers will list in their instructions what to use. When you are done using the iron always remember to empty all of the water out of the iron. Thanks again for sharing the new fabric lines – absolutely love love love the background.

This purrrrfect Christmas fabric layer cake is my favorite,guess because I love my 13 kitties I’ve rescued and took responsibility for and got them all fixed. Some are barn cats ,and 3 are inside/outside and one is strictly inside . Any way thank you for all your inspiration to this beginner 🫶👏

My favorite fabric line, although I liked them all, is the Purrfect Christmas line. Keeping my fingers crossed!
The Purrfect Christmas fabric is calling my name. I love all the houses and stockings that co-ordinate with the cats.

Cory, Sorry you couldn’t go to market. Life does get in the way sometimes. These are really nice fabrics. There was one of the fabrics that had a Black/Blue background. I really couldn’t tell the difference. Please tell use if it’s black or blue. It will make the difference if we want to go and buy parts of that fabric line. I think it was the one what was water colored. I will assume it was black. Thank you for all you do for the quilting community. Everytime I want to do binding I pull up your Creative Grids Folded Corner video and relearn how to do that agin. 😂

I love your videos and watch them on a regular basis. Thank you for all the tips and tricks that have helped me with my own quilting. I especially like when you show how to use the different rulers. I love fussy cutting and found your explanation on using the ruler/template to be a huge help for me. I loved all of the fabric, but Purrfect Christmas is just too cute. I can see a quilt for my great grandson made from it.

All of the fabric lines are beautiful so it’s hard to choose one. If I had to pick just one, it would be the Pumpkin Spice but the Buon Natale is a very close second. I am a fairly new quilter, and it never ceases to amaze me how there are so many quilt shops in Missouri and how different they all are. There is so many designers and fabric lines! I am pretty sure that you are one of my favorite designers because your fabric is just so Happy! 🙂 Looking at how many people have responded to your blog I would say I am not the only person who feels this way. If I had to pick a favorite of the three layer cakes I would say I like the pumpkin spice the best. Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge and love for quilting!

My favorite was Purrfect Christmas. My granddaughter loves cats but doesn’t have a real one. She could wrap up in a quilt with cats. Not to sure about the mice! Was good to see all the different prints in the layer cakes. Thanks for all you show on your utube and blogs.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Purrfect Christmas–I thought it would be just all cat prints, but I liked the other motifs in the line. My absolute favorite is Buon Natale by Fig Tree, even if I don’t win a layer cake from this giveaway, I am going to order a fat quarter bundle from my LQS. Also, I am so excited for your Abloom fabric line! My MIL always has bird feeders in her lawn and I know I am going to make her a quilt with Abloom.

I love all of the collections but, I do a lot of small projects, wall hangings, mini quilts etc. so small prints collection are a must. The Pumpkin Spice by Lisa Bongean was my favorite- I also like the style small, delicate prints she puts out in her fabric lines. I did like the Purrfect Christmas layer cake as well, especially the many pretty, festive prints unrelated to cats.
