Moda Block Heads Block 31
Many years ago, I used to (every now and then) purchase Longaberger baskets. Do you guys remember those? They were made in Dresden, Ohio which is maybe an hour from where I live. But these days, I am much more apt to collect Basket quilt blocks…so this block by Betsy Chutchian was right up my alley.
You will find the quilt block PDF pattern for Basket Collector available today on Betsy’s blog.
And because I get asked frequently, I wanted to provide the link again for the Moda Block Heads 3 archive which is where you will find the previous Moda Block Heads blocks in one spot…click here.
For my block, I used a little rainbow mix of fabrics (Sugarcreek, Canning Day, Strawberry Jam, Apricot & Ash). I was so glad it was a quick and easy block to piece. I always seem to wait until the Tuesday before I need to share my block on Wednesday to start making them. When it’s a quick block, I love it!–especially when I am short on time.
And I just had to share this basket quilt I made last year:
It is my Happy, Scrappy Baskets quilt… and it is happy and scrappy…two of my favorite things. You’ll find this pattern in my Etsy shop. Basket quilts are so pretty!
I actually have another one that I still need to get quilted. Happy & Scrappy indeed!
Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you have fun making and adding your Basket Collector quilt block to your collection of Moda Block Heads blocks. =)

Hi Cory, I so enjoy seeing your blocks. It is fun to see all the different color schemes.
Hi Corey! Love your block & your fabric lines. Still waiting for my favorite shop to get in Holliberry & Apricot & Ash. I, too, purchased a few Longaberger baskets over the years. I truly lost count but if I had to guesstimate, I’d say I have around 200! Many of them I do use but many of them, sadly, are simply “dust collectors”. I think it’s so sad what happened with the Longaberger family business.
Your basket block is so cute, love the fabrics! Your basket quilt is great! I wasn’t able to afford the Longaberger baskets when they were in their heyday but my mother could and she did! She divided them up between us girls before she died. I have 2 which I use often. Happy stitching!
I had friends who were Longaberger basket dealers, so I have several in my home. They even went back and toured the basket-shaped factory! Fun to reminisce about that time in my life when my children were small and I was a stay-at-home mom decorating with Longaberger.
Hi Cory, I enjoyed your post today love the basket quilt
I collected Longaberger baskets and also was an independent sales rep for them for a while in the 90’s. I’ve been to Dresden several times. Such a quaint town. I always enjoyed my visits there.
