Moda Block Heads Block 40

Block 40 for the Moda Block Heads sew along has been released today. =)

And we get to make a string block!–I so enjoy making string blocks.  They are easy, and mindless sewing at it’s best.  Sometimes you want to be super accurate and take your time and other times it’s so nice to be able just to sew without thought.  String blocks are definitely in the sew without thought category. =)

The only thing I did differently was to swap out the muslin base for a paper base.  I prefer making my string blocks on paper and then removing the paper as you would for paper pieced blocks.

So I pieced it using the same method as I did with my String Star block tutorial.

One of my favorite string quilts I’ve made is this one below.  I made it using scraps from my Prairie collection using a free tutorial from Film in the Fridge which you will find here.

My mom and I pieced this one together as a way to use up some of the scraps and it was such a fun quilt to make!  The quilt was quilted by David Hurd using an all over orange peel design.
