Moda Blockheads Round 2

Good Morning Everyone–do you know what day it is?  If you participated in Moda Blockheads last year, then you know that today kicks off the 2nd round of Blockheads.

For those of you who might have missed the fun last year(if you did, don’t worry a book is on the way filled with all of the wonderful blocks), you will be excited to know that it is a weekly Block of the Week hosted by Moda Fabrics.

I participated in Round 1, and have been having a lot of fun teaching these blocks to my local class of Blockheads.  I opted to use a scrappy mix of mostly my fabric lines along with coordinating solids.  Here’s a peek at some of my blocks from last year before I had them sewn into the quilt top:

Blocks I made in Round 1 of Blockheads

For Round 1, the blocks were all 6″ finished blocks which makes for an adorable quilt.

I opted for scrappy background fabrics as well and then finished the quilt off with sashing featuring one of my favorite dark greys, Bella Solid in Etchings Charcoal.

Yes, I realize it’s a crooked picture but it’s all I had handy. =)

Last year a group of 6 ladies (I’m sure you recognize these names!) designed and shared their blocks, weekly, throughout the year.

This year, each of last year’s designers got to invite a friend to play along.  And I was tickled when Lisa Bongean asked me to join in the fun.  I have always loved Lisa’s designs and especially love all of her tiny piecing.  This mini quilt is called Underground Railroad using Lisa’s pattern and a bunch of Cotton & Steel basics.  You really need to take a peek at the next photo to see how little these pieces are.

See?!?–the squares finish at 1/2″–so cute!

You will be able to find the free block for today over on Lynne’s blog.  And then be sure to visit Moda every Wednesday for information on where the new block for that week can be found.  You’ll also want to check it out today for a lot of great information.  Additionally, you will want to follow along on the Moda Blockheads Facebook page.  It’s a great resource for fabric choices, blocks being made etc.

Speaking of fabrics, you can find rough fabric requirements here as well as other good information.  And, should you want to make your own scrappy Coriander fabric {Corey and her fabric} Blockheads quilt, my mom and I just cut up a bunch of fat quarters from my fabric lines yesterday.

I’ve added these scrappy starter bundles to my shop this morning.

UPDATE:  THESE BUNDLES HAVE ALL SOLD–THANK YOU!!

They each include eight fat quarters with a mix of lines represented including Prairie, Sundrops, Lulu Lane, & Flower Mill.

I will be back on Friday to share my first Blockheads Round 2 block.  I had planned to finish it up yesterday but was busy cutting up bundles!

Have a beautiful Wednesday!
