Moda Blockheads Round 5: Friendship Star Block
Welcome to the last block of the first round of Moda Blockheads 5. Reminder, we will be kicking off a longer round of MBH5 after the holidays.
You can opt to make a smaller project to have finished in time for the holidays or you can opt to add these first blocks to the blocks releasing next year. My plan is to mix all of my blocks into a larger project. I am nailing down my setting idea for all of my blocks and once I have that figured out, I will be sure to share.
Today’s block is a paper pieced block brought to us by Sarah Thomas.
You can download her pattern here.
I needed something quicker for today and also a bit more traditional so I opted to make a simple Friendship Star block. Friendship Star blocks are so quick to piece and gave me a chance to use that slightly larger scale fabric for my star. I really like that blue fabric from Blueberry Delight but it doesn’t work as well for the smaller pieces needed in these 6″ blocks. This was a great spot to let it shine.
Above you can see how my first batch of blocks is shaping up. It will be fun to continue adding to them in January when the new blocks start coming out. If you want to make a Friendship Star block of your own, a quick google search for “free friendship star quilt block pattern” pulls up a lot of different options.
Happy Sewing! Corey
Just love your blocks, and the fabric combinations. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Sandi!…it’s always fun to join in on another round of Blockheads.
your friendship star shown in your blog is not the pattern in the download
Corey said that she wanted something more simple than the actual pattern, so she sewed a traditional Friendship star instead.
That’s correct…as I mentioned, I opted to piece a Friendship Star block rather than the pattern released for today.
Corey,
Seen your new line “Starberry” (I hope I got it right!) it is absolutely beautiful!!!! You continue to amaze me in your creativity!!! I want to put one of your sheep on the back of my blue jean jacket. Quilt blocks on clothes are becoming a big thing now. Thank you for the block.
Thanks so much!…Starberry was a fun line to design and so fun to design the new quilt patterns to go with it as well.
I love your idea. The pattern is pretty but not sure I want to tackle it.
I don’t think this would be a tricky one to piece but it would certainly take more time than the Friendship Star block.
Are all blockhead patterns only 9″? I am looking to make a quilt from known and popular patterns that are 12″. Thank you, Pat
The instructions for all of the blocks for this round of Blockheads are available in either a 6″ size or a 12″ size.
Was there an oops in the pattern today? Certainly not an easy block although beautiful. Take care.
I don’t believe so Deborah. However, as I mentioned, I opted to make a Friendship Star block instead of the block released today so if there was, I wouldn’t have noticed it.
I was finally able to get my hands on a mini charm of Peachy Keen. I love peach and I love blue but even with pictures I wasn’t sure whether I would like it or not. So, when the box was delivered I ripped that sucker open and grabbed the mini charm with lightening speed that I haven’t seen from myself in decades. The only words my mouth could make was “Ohhh, Corey, Ohhh, Corey, I love this…Oh my, I love this sooooo much”. If I could have floated on a cloud of happiness, it would have happened at that exact moment. Just wanted you to know that this line is THAT beautiful. In my opinion pictures still do NO justice to how lovely this line is that you made.
Such a classic block that looks beautiful done the Coriander way!
Oh, I love the idea of the sheep block on a jacket. So cute!
Hi Corey, Agree with you regarding the time factor for Sarah’s block. I am going to attempt it but it will definitely be sans the holly.
