Oh, Happy Day! Sampler Sew Along Week 5

I propose you join me in sewing up the Proposal block for our sampler today.

Proposal is the block that we are making today for our Oh, Happy Day! sampler.

This is such a fun block to make.  It does require a bit more attention to seam matching as well as stitch/flip corner accuracy.  I talk about both of those things with some helpful tips in today’s video which you can watch here.

Here is how my block looks using Buttercup & Slate fabrics:

I opted to use background fabrics for the outer corners in place of using the gray fabric.  Those corners provide the “chain” look in the quilt.

Cutting and Piecing Instructions for today’s block:

Turn to page 12 in your Oh, Happy Day! book.  Under the “Materials” section, cut the pieces listed under “blue print”, “white solid”, and “assorted prints”.  If you wish to use the background fabric for your outer corners as I did, decrease the 8 squares listed under “blue print” to 4 squares and increase the set of 8 squares listed under “white solid” to 12 squares.

The written, piecing instructions can be found on pages 8-9 in your book.  Your completed block will measure 12 1/2″.

As always, if you need any help piecing the block today, you can stop by my video tutorial.  And if you have just discovered this sew along, you can jump in at any time!  More details about the sew along can be found here.  Happy Sewing! Corey

Oh, I’m excited for this one! I have never done stitch and flip corners, so I’ll probably watch the video a few times before I start. I feel like I’ve really improved my precision with the first 4 blocks, but even the last block isn’t quite perfect! 🙂

I love you fabric lines and quilts. I have recently found you. I know where have I been right!!! I can’t wait to do a sew along with you. I’m thinking about sewcialites 2. I missed block heads.

    Hi,
Earlier in the see along you shared the strips you will need from the background to finish the quilt. Now I can’t find them. Can you point me in the right direction ?
    Thanks.

Do you have a fabric line that you made the quilt with? It is so perfect for that pattern. I ordered the quilt book today.

  6. Lisa Donohew says:

What is the fabric line that is in the full quilt in the first two photos? It is beautiful.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
