Perfectly Pretty Pincushions
Happy Monday Friends–today I am excited to be sharing about some fun books.
My friend, Kristyne Czepuryk of Pretty By Hand, asked me if I wanted to participate in a social media hop for her new book Perfectly Pretty Patchwork. I knew that any book by Kristyne was going to be a winner–she makes the prettiest projects. She also designs the sweetest fabrics. I’ve been so fortunate to get to know Kristyne in person and she is just as sweet as her fabrics are. =)
Kristyne’s book, Perfectly Pretty Patchwork, is brimming with the cutest projects from pillows, to bags, to pincushions, to quilts. Kristyne adds the nicest little hand touches to each project that she makes.
Her mini quilt, Postage Stamp, caught my eye immediately.
I didn’t have time to make the whole quilt but I did make two new pincushions using the block from the mini quilt. The pincushions are 3″ square in size and are so cute. I used fabrics from Sugarcreek, Canning Day (coming out this month to your local quilt shop!), and Strawberry Jam (the background) for my pincushions.
I think they turned out so cute–and can you ever really have too many pincushions? I’ve added them to my growing pincushion collection.
Earlier this summer, I made a bunch of scrappy pincushions using some of the patterns from Carrie Nelsons, Pin Pals, book. This is another great book if you haven’t had a chance to check it out. Full of so many great designs!
And, I also made these little cuties…finishing at 2″ using my Magnetic pattern. The pattern details how to make patchwork magnets but it works just as well for pincushions.
I shared how to make the little house pincushion earlier this summer during my visit to Fat Quarter Shop.
I’m trying to remember to share some of these fun projects that we filmed in case you want to try making some of them too. =)
Pincushions are such a fun way to use up little bits of fabric and make a quick project. I’ve started filling my pincushions with walnut shells as I like the weight they give them. Prior to walnut shells, I was a poly-fil girl–but really do prefer the weight of the walnut shells. This is the kind I use. It’s inexpensive and the bag lasts a long time!
If you’d like to follow along with Kristyne’s social media hop to see what other projects are made, be sure to follow her on Instagram @prettybyhand She has a list of the participants so you can see what everyone is up to. =)
Frances thought she might like to try a pincushion for herself. =)…or at least one of the little felt balls. =) I Hope you have a wonderful start to your week! =) Be back soon.
I am so glad you included Frances picture. It just is so real and I also am hopping over to the ironing board tutorial from the “you may also like” section. It is past time lol Thanks for all you do to inspire us!!!!
I love these tiny pin cushions! This is my first venture into pin cushions ions but I am terribly allergic to walnuts. I understand sand has proved bad for pins and needles. Polyesters are less than ideal. Is there another alternative
Yes, there are quite a few different options. I recommend this video: https://youtu.be/-TfvvPx_ydw by Carrie Nelson the author of the Pin Pals book I talked about in my post. She covers so many great things that you will find helpful.
These pin cushions are so cute. I like the idea of using these little patterns for mini quilts like you did with the little houses. They could be hung anywhere or given as mug rugs. So many ways to use them. Thanks so much for the tutorial on the little houses.
