Precut Primer 4th Grade
Happy Thursday!–Today is my day on the Precut Primer blog hop hosted by Fat Quarter Shop & Barb & Mary over at Me and My Sister Designs. I am always very impressed with the books that Fat Quarter Shop publishes. With Barb & Mary on board, Precut Primer is really, quite top notch.
I am quite excited about this book. There are very few quilting books that I would be interested in making more than one or two quilts from the book. In this book, however, there are a lot of quilts I would love to make.
I have to share this funny little story. When, Precut Primer arrived on my doorstep, I was browsing through and deciding which project I wanted to make first. I asked my 6 year old, Elonie, which was her favorite.
She asked me if she could use clothespins to mark her favorites. I said, sure–that’d be great. And, here are the results:
She had so many favorites!–I’m inclined to agree. My most favorite quilt from the book is the 11th grade quilt:
I think this quilt might have to be made sooner rather than later. I think it would be stellar using my vintage sheet collection. I already have the strips cut and just need to get sewing.
The great thing about this book is that all of the projects are precut friendly(you probably already had this figured out). There are projects for mini charm packs all the way up to fat quarter bundles. Using precuts sure cuts down on the amount of time spent prepping a project for sewing.
These are another of the two quilts that really caught my eye. The 8th grade quilt is looking pretty fancy in Prairie fabrics! And that 9th grade quilt is just too pretty.
So, I ended up choosing the 4th grade quilt to make first.
It’s a perfect little wall hanging size made in some of my favorite Kate & Birdie fabrics, Autumn Woods. I had a charm pack just waiting to be used for this project.
It quilted up quickly using an easy wavy line stitch.
All in all, a fun perfect for fall project.

This looks a lovely book; for me, the white backgrounds make for a very fresh looking creation.
White backgrounds really make the prints pop–don’t they.
I feel exactly the same way as your daughter! I have already collected the fabric for the 8th grade quilt (just have to wait for yardage for the border – so lucky to win a layer cake of your gorgeous fabric!), the 9th grade quilt, the 11th grade quilt, the 7th grade quilt… Those are just the ones I have collected fabric for!! I’d encourage anyone to take a look at this book if they haven’t already!

I love love the 11th grade pattern how different fabric were used to make the design. This has to be one I make I haven’t seen something that’s caught my eye in a few years. I will be getting this book thank you for sharing such beautiful book. I’m always open for prizes

I love the clothespins!! We use stickies. This book is looking better and better.
Ha!–I would normally use stickies too–I thought it was so cute she asked to use clothespins.

I saw this book at my LQS yesterday and it looked wonderful. Love your quilt.
I am having a tough time deciding which quilt I want to make first! I rarely see so many in a single book that grab my attention. It doesn’t hurt that we don’t have to do so much cutting either.
Less cutting is such a time saver!

Elonie seems to be like me – there’s not many quilt patterns that I don’t like! Hopefully she’ll grow up to be a quilter and make all these patterns into quilts 🙂
She loves color–I think that’s probably why she liked so many of the quilts. The book is full of great color.
First my favorite was four now it nine oh my goodness probably just need the book!

Beautiful! I taught 4th grade for many years and always loved the personality of kids in that stage of life. I really like your wavy quilting pattern and this inspires me to think I may be able to replicate it! I have so much trouble with FMQ, but this one I think I can handle. thanks!
The wavy line quilting is so easy. On my machine it’s stitch #4–I have a Bernina. It’s basically a zig zag stitch with an extra stitch at the point. I adjust the settings to widen it and use my walking foot. At that point, it’s basically the same as straight line quilting. Fun & easy!

My favorite pre-cut are jellies rolls. The are so many wonderful patterns (and new books!) that use them that I never have to worry about finding my next pattern to make…it is just deciding which pattern to make.
I don’t have kids but live very close to the local high schools – back to school means band practice and half time shows…I can’t see them, but I can hear them. Those kids are pretty good!
