Pillow Talk Swap Pillow Finished
It must be the season for pillows! I suppose fall does bring to mind fun projects with the cooler weather–anyway, whatever the case may be, I have finished up another pillow. This one for my partner in the Pillow Talk Swap.
My partner had more specific choices in her fabric likes–the stack above was my initial fabric pull. After going over my choices I paired it down a bit and added a bit of navy & just a touch more grey.
This block required set in seams–something I haven’t done before–they came together great. I really like trying out something that I haven’t done before or color options I wouldn’t usually choose or a new quilting technique etc. for these swaps. Small projects are great to try out new techniques because you aren’t committed to finishing out a large project doing something you realize just isn’t for you.
For the quilting, I did an all over stipple and then did a little hand quilting outline using Perle Cotton.
I snagged the block pattern and triangle template pattern from the October 2009 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting–it’s based off of an antique quilt. The pattern is one that I have been wanting to have a go at for awhile so I was glad for the chance! I hope you like it partner!! =)
This is so pretty! I bet your partner will love it.
So pretty! The hand stitching is a really nice touch.
Love the pillow Corey. Your creative juices were definitely following for this one.
I know I would love that beautiful pillow!
What a great pillow! Love the colors and kudos to you for trying out a new technique. I see a lot of the perl cotton on your projects and I simply love it. Great inspiration.
This is such a pretty pillow! I bet your swap partner will be thrilled. 🙂

Wow, that is crazy cool!!
Love this!! You have a very lucky partner!
Gorgeous!
i really love the dark blue you used in your pillow. you have a wonderful eye for color. i like the way you quilted the pillow. i’m going to try that on a quilt that i’m working on right now. it’s not quite at the quilting stage yet. lol, but, i’m also waiting on the weather to cool down a bit still. (still a little to hot here to start hand quilting.) but, you inspired me to try it. Thank You.
Oh I love it – nice choice of fabrics & the addition of blue! Though the fabrics are modern it does have that vintage feel to it. I will have to look up this one up & try it out!
This is beautiful–the pattern and the fabric choices!
It is an amazing pillow Corey, absolutely stunning!
Wow now I am like hitting my head against the wall for not joining this swap! Your partner is SO lucky, Corey! I love every pillow you make!
What Ayumi said.
Beautiful pillow !
Do you have the template available? I would love to give it a try. It’s awesome.
I did a quickie pattern using the reindeer head shape from the pattern–the antlers are machine stitched as well as the eyes and the mouth. The nose is just a teeny little circle. I drew my pattern right onto heat n bond lite & never made up an “official” pattern. But you could easily whip up the shape yourself–it’s basically a rounded rectangle a little narrower at the bottom.
