Princess and the Pea Quilt Top Finished
I finished up Elonie’s quilt top over the weekend–she is dearly in love with it and wanted to take it to bed with her even though it hasn’t been quilted yet. =)
Quilt Stats:
Fabrics: Heather Ross Far Far Away 1 and various solids
Block size: 12.5″
Quilt size: 4 x 5 blocks or 48″ x 60″ finished
My favorite part of the blocks are the little rainbow bits I have stashed here and there.
I think if I were going to make another I would leave out the dark purple solid–it’s the first thing my eye is drawn to and I find it a little bit distracting.
I think it’s a fun quilt & it was quite relaxing to not have to worry about lining up seams or wonkiness. Plus, Elonie is so fond of it–we had to take it over to Grandma’s house on Sunday to show it off per Elonie’s instructions. She thought we forgot it on our way to church but I told her I had tucked it in the back and then all was right in her world again.
I’ve picked up some pink fleece to back it in–it’s my current fave backing for a cozy blanket. I leave out the batting and it makes a perfect snuggly blanket plus you can’t beat 60″ wide fleece for $6.99/yd! =)–2 yards was all I needed. =)
This is wonderful!! I love the little stacked pieced rainbow bits, if you know what I mean! I too am a big fan of quilts where seams do not have to line up! 🙂 Fleece for the backing sounds wonderful.
Oh, that looks gorgeous! No wonder your daughter wanted to take it to bed even before it’s finished.
That turned out absolutely darling! Fun, bold but not overwhelming. It is really a cute mix of so many styles. Good work!
This is TOTALLY amazing…i looooooooooooove it!!!!
It’s gorgeous! No wonder she loves it!!
I’ve never thought to use fleece for backing. Is it easy to quilt?
Jennifer 🙂
Thanks!–I straight line machine quilt it and I don’t find it to be much different than using batting/backing.
This is simply adorble!!!!
Oh gorgeous! Are you going to link it in with tgiffriday? Tgiffriday.blogspot.com
I love the colors, the little bit wonky, and especially that it’s just what Elonie ordered.
Ooh love it! I’ve been trying to get the nerve up to use my FFA I. Are you able to share off the top of your head some of your Kona solid choices? Works perfectly!
The solids I used the most were ones from Pat Bravo’s Pure Elements line of fabrics(the yellow solid, the darker orange, the darker pink, both purples, & the lighter yellowy green are all from that line). As far as the rest of the solids they are a bit of a mix of Bellas/Konas/Free Spirit solids–the darker aqua is a Moda Cross Weave. Hopefully that helps a little bit!
love it!
What an AWESOME quilt!
This is simply adorable!
Absolutely adorable! I’m with you about the dark purple. Can’t imagine any little girl not loving it.
I love the whismy that this quilt has. There is nothing better than a well pleased recipient!
Far, far away is every little girls dream and you have done a great job showcasing it!
Stunning! I LOVE it! You’re such an inspiration, but I’m not showing my daughter this 🙂
Those fussy cut unicorns are great!
Corey, this is beyond cute! Love it! I kind of like the dark purple ‘pop’. And I bet the pink fleece back is fabulous. 🙂 Hugs!
As I said- Princess Perfect 🙂
It’s so adorable!
Do you quilt it with the fleece of just leave it loose? I’ve been thinking of doing free motion with no batting and fleece on the back. Just wondering.
I use the fleece in place of the backing/batting so I quilt it just as I normally would.
lol, a happy little girl=priceless. I bet elonie will want to take that for pre-k nap time. You will be having lots of little girls wanting one. It’s gorgeous.
I’m just smiling!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 So cute to see how tickled Elonie is with her Princess and the Pea quilt!! It is so “Elonie” ♥
It is just gorgeous, no wonder it is loved already, hope you can get it back to quilt.
I am totally in love! It’s perfect. I better not show my little girl… 🙂
I think I would love to be your daughter, just so I could get this Princess and the Pea quilt! I love that fabric and it came along before I came back to sewing…so I missed out on it.
This quilt looks gorgeous! I’m sure it will be well loved for many, many years 🙂
Love the quilt and fleece backing idea! How will you bind it or will you just envelope it and quilt it?
I love the randomness of this quilt. Well it is not random is structure but in colour placement. It is just so happy on the eye. I would love to be able to feel it. It just asks to be loved. Love your work Sandra
I love the colours in this quilt, and the unicorns are my favourite! Great work!
Does your little girl know how lucky she is? So so cute!
I love the finished top, and until you mentioned the purple, I didn’t see it more than any other fabric. I think it’s a good mix of colors and values.
Id love some scraps from your x marks the goose pillow!!!
