Purry Stars Block Tutorial

A YouTube viewer asked me if I would share a video tutorial of how to put together a Purry Stars quilt block. So, I filmed a video sharing just that. =)

If you’ve purchased the Purry Stars quilt block this month (it’s on sale for just $5 for all of June), this might be a nice addition to the pattern instructions. You can watch the video here. In the video, I mentioned that instead of purchasing yardage for the cats, each individual cat can be made using a print fat quarter (plus the background fabric you’ll need for the star). Because of that, I thought it would be fun to mock-up the quilt using 20 different prints. First up…Purry Stars in Starberry. What a fun holiday quilt this would be!:

And I couldn’t resist doing one in Cali & Co….because, well, Calico! =)

Isn’t that a fun one too! Cali & Co. will be in shops late this year and Starberry is in shops right now.

Also, I know many of you tune into my Saturday videos but you might not be aware that I also sometimes release a Wednesday video. I will be releasing Wednesday videos more frequently this summer. This past Wednesday, I shared about all of my Moda Blockheads blocks plus a pillow tutorial using Starberry fabrics (and a sewing day with plenty of mis-haps!).

And, this upcoming Wednesday, it’s kick-off day for the Cuddle Up Sampler Sew along! Yay!….I’m looking forward to sewing along with all of you once again. =)

If you aren’t yet subscribed to the channel, I’d love to have you join in with all of us over there. =) We have a lot of fun and it’s a chatty bunch in the comments.

Thanks so much for stopping by and enjoy your weekend! Corey

I immediately purchased this month’s pattern because . . . well, it’s a cute cat block! I am working on finding a nice neutral for the background; but, am going to make the focal fabric for each cat from a different cat fabric. No worries . . . I probably could make 100 Purry Cats from all the cat fabric I’ve collected over the years. My dilemma for this one is what will be the “theme” of the cat fabric? Christmas Cats? Garden Cats? The same color background in the cat print? Or just random by blindly choosing each print? Ahhhh decisions!! One of the things I love most about quilting is selecting the fabric.

    Hi Cory….
This is a question for your filming times…. There is lots of talking about pressing your seams open. Can you chat about that?? Is it important? Is there a way to do it where it is not so time consuming? When do you decide to press to the side? Thank you!!!

Thank you for confirming a starched fat quarter will make a purrrrr block! And the tutorial was fantastic! I have two new little kittens and they distract me so my math doesn’t come out the same two times in a row. I purchased the pattern but do not yet have the fabric. The Cali and Co mock-up has Inspired me!

I love this block! Can you do a similar one for a dog? It’s been a challenge finding a straight forward dog quilt block – that’s also cute like this!

There have been a couple people asking for a dog version over the weekend. I don’t have plans to make a dog one but if the right idea pops into my mind I just might.
