Sewcialites Block 5, Wisdom
Good Morning and welcome to week 5 of the Sewcialiates sew along. I am also going to be sharing a Friday Favorite today so keep reading! =0
Today’s Sewcialites block is brought to us by Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life and it’s the cutest little Churn Dash block. You can find the free block pattern in today’s blog post on the Jolly Jabber.
The green and the white fabrics I used are from my upcoming Spring Brook fabric line which comes out in January. And the gray fabric is Moda Bella Solid in Etchings Stone.
Which brings me to my Friday favorite…the gray solids that I like using. I get asked this question so often as I really like using grays in quilts and you’ve seen a gray in each fabric collection I’ve designed right from the start.
I predominantly use the “Etchings” grays from Moda Bella Solids…this includes Etchings Stone, Etchings Slate, and Etchings Charcoal. In the quilt above, I used Moda Bella Etchings Charcoal…it is the darkest of the three.
The medium shade of the three is Moda Bella Solid Etchings Slate. I used it for the sashing in my Sunday Best Quilts sampler quilt.
And the lightest of the three grays is Moda Bella Etchings Stone. This is the gray that I am using in my Sewcialites quilt. It is also the gray I used in my Idyllic quilt:
And for my Sweetly Shining Quilt:
Often, when I have a gray background in my fabric lines, it is going to match one of those shades. There are exceptions of course, but I really like the warm shades of those three grays. They play so nicely with the warm colors I like using. If you ever have any questions about the solids I like to use, at the top of my home page, click the Bella Solids tab and it will direct you to matching information.
I wish you all a beautiful day!–thank you for stopping by, Corey
Thank you for the names, shade levels of the gray solids! I love using gray as well, I am definitely not a “white” background person.
Hi Corey, I really appreciate what you are sharing for the sewcialites blocks. Will you be sharing details about your plan for the layout? Thank you.
Hi Corey, I really wanted to do little blocks but I was afraid they would be hard to work with. They really are cute.
