Sugarcreek Quilt Patterns Part 2
Today it’s time to share the quilts made with just the Sugarcreek Wovens fabric.
I have been buying woven fabric for years. And I bet a lot of you have too if you have been making quilts for a while…do you have any homespuns in your fabric collection? They would be a woven fabric. Wovens are fabrics where the design of the fabric is created by weaving dyed threads rather than printing onto the surface of the fabric.
I don’t have a lot of homespuns in my stash–although I have some. One of my first quilts was a Yellow Brick Road quilt using homespuns. Raise your hand if you’ve made a Yellow Brick Road quilt. =)
What I have found myself collecting though, are the wovens, with the little stitchy bits. Ones that look like they have been quilted or ones with little textured bits of fabric. Unfortunately, the fabrics I have been purchasing often don’t work in the quilts that I am making. I loved them but they just didn’t work with the palettes that I like working with. But I just couldn’t stop buying them because they are so pretty.
So, last summer, after I had just purchased more pretty, stitchy little woven fabrics. I considered the possibility of having a woven collection made to coordinate with the colors that I love. And here we have it, the Sugarcreek Wovens collection. All of those little stitchy bits in my favorite warm color palette. They are just itching to be added to your quilts.
The quilts made using these fabrics are wonderfully light weight with a beautiful drape. The fabrics are softer to work with than quilting cottons so I gave them a bit more starch as I was piecing.
I’ve designed two, simple to piece quilts using just the Sugarcreek Wovens. Up first is Pound Cake.
This is a layer cake friendly quilt pattern. The wovens are available in Fat Quarter bundles, layer cakes, and charm squares. The quilt finishes at 60″ x 74″.
One of my favorite prints from the wovens is the little plus print. I used the gray plus print for the background fabric on this quilt. It is a delightful background. I’ve used nearly all of my yardage up on this print and now I need to wait until the fabric is available to have some more. I can see myself using this fabric quite a bit in the future.
David of Quilting By David quilted this quilt for me. And I couldn’t be happier with it.
And the second quilt I designed for the wovens is Poppyseed.
Poppyseed uses 18 fat quarters which just happens to be the number of fat quarters in a Sugarcreek Wovens bundle. =) I wanted a quick to piece patchwork quilt with larger pieces. And Poppyseed is the end result. The quilt finishes at 69″ x 83″. David also quilted this quilt for me.
The colors and textures are just so good. I can’t wait to make more quilts and projects using these fabrics!
Both Poppyseed and Pound Cake are available in my Etsy shop in either Paper or PDF format. Use code FREESHIP on purchases of 2+ patterns to receive free shipping.
And here’s one more little project I made using the wovens, some Moda Black Cross Weave, and one of my favorite Sugarcreek prints.
This is the Maker’s Tote pattern by Noodlehead. I was so excited with how it turned out. This bag will be traveling with me to Quilt Market next week. I always like to make a new bag out of each new fabric line. If you’d like to try this bag pattern, you will find it for sale here.
If you have any questions about the woven fabrics, leave it in the comments. I usually respond directly to comments via email but I’ll leave my comments right on the post in case it helps any one else out!

Love this line! I have been looking for some colors just like these to back some of my wool appliqué pieces that are done in brighter/happier colors and these will be perfect!! (As well as for piecing in my other quilting!)
That is wonderful to hear!–It’s so nice to have these pretty fabrics in a variety of colors so you have just what you need!
Love the colors, this line of fabric is beautiful !
Thank you so much!–I have really enjoyed having these fabrics as part of the Sugarcreek line!
is Quilt Market in Kansas City this year. If so is it only open to shops owners?
It is in Kansas City and yes, open to those in the industry.
Love your wovens and have the whole line pre preordered. It’s going to be wonderful and love both of these patterns
Thank you so much!–I know that I have been loving working with them. It’s so nice to have all of that wonderful texture to be able to add into a quilt!
The new woven line makes my heart sing! I love the colors!
Thank you!–mine too. I have so enjoyed using these fabrics and have plans to keep right on using them. They are so nice. =)
Beautiful bag made from gorgeous fabrics!
Thank you so much!–It was such a fun bag to make. Very well done pattern.
So pretty! What fabric did you use for the white background for Poppyseed ?
Thank you! I used Moda Bella Solid in 9900-200. It is pretty much the only white solid that I use.
Years ago I used some wovens from a 3 Sisters line and loved them. Somehow I have not used them again. The Sugarcreek wovens look beautiful. I am thrilled to see wovens back. I love adding a bit of texture to my projects. I have loved your lines but I think this new one is going to be my favorite. Also, thank you for the Blockheads coloring sheets. I truly enjoyed using them!
I have some 3 sisters wovens in my stash too–probably from the Paris Flea Market time frame. I loved those soft pastel colors. I, too, have been enjoying seeing more wovens in use too. It was such a nice surprise to see the new Bonnie and Camille wovens–those are pretty colors I can see myself using as well. I am so glad you were able to use the coloring pages!
Thank you for the info! I think these are very pretty. Just so I’m clear on this. The printed and woven’s should not be mixed in one project? The bag is awesome!
I like mixing prints and wovens. If you look at my blog post from yesterday, you will see the quilts I’ve made where I mixed them together.
