Moda Block Heads 3 Final Block & Finished Quilt
It is here…our final block of this round of Moda Block Heads and my finished quilt. I think it turned out just beautifully.
First off, let me share our last block. It is brought to us by Joanna and you will find the block pattern on her blog here.
It is this fun little four star block. And, as if you are surprised, it was perfect to be scrappy and rainbow-y. =)
It was such a fun block to finish off with. =) And now, let me share my finished quilt with you. You will notice that I changed things up a bit from my original plan…isn’t that the fun of this quilt along!; you can change things to your hearts’ content and really make it just the way you want it to be.
I opted to make simple, gray striped blocks for my alternate blocks. Each time I used that gray stripe fabric over the last year, I really liked how it played with the sunny bright fabrics I used.
I decided that I wanted to feature it a bit more and I couldn’t be happier with that decision. =) I finished the quilt with a double border using two different prints from my Sunnyside Up line and a diagonal striped binding, also from Sunnyside Up. It was beautifully quilted by David Hurd.
Now, this last picture isn’t the best as far as color but I wanted to share the full quilt with you. Unfortunately, we have been having a lot of gray days here in Ohio and I had to make do with the lighting that I had. =)
What a quilt we will all have to remember! The quilt made over the course of 2020..it was so nice to have so many people to sew with, wasn’t it…when we were all having to be home so much. =)
I hope that you will continue to stop by! I have a new quilt along starting in March/April using my new Spring Brook line of fabric and I’d love to have you sewing with me! Be sure to visit my blog for upcoming announcements! Happy Sewing! Corey
So pretty! What a year for sure and Moda Blockheads helped me through this crazy year !! Thank you and all the other Moda designers SEW much!!
It was so nice having this community of sewists wasn’t it! =)
That is a wonderful setting. I love the addition of the striped blocks. Your fabrics just make everything happy. Great work!!
Thank you!–I love hearing that I have happy fabrics! =)
I love your quilt it really looks great with the gray.
I always like what gray adds to a quilt!
I like the way you set your blocks. The alternate gray blocks really add some zing to the color of the blocks. Happy stitching!
Thank so much!
Your quilt is beautiful!
Thank you!
This is gorgeous!
Thank you!
Just lovely! And I LOVE your striped layout blocks, especially how you oriented the stripe vertically on the top and bottom of the square and horizontally on the sides. It really creates a dramatic effect and you don’t have to worry about matching stripes.
Thanks so much!
WOW – that is the prettiest quilt I’ve ever seen, and those stripey blocks in between each special blocks really made the difference. Wonderful!
I love what those striped blocks add to the quilt!
Your quilt is so pretty! I really enjoyed your video with your new fabric line and projects. I love bindings with stripes and plaids on the bias, so I’m so glad you included those with your Spring Brook line of fabric. I’m on the list for The Fat Quarter Shop to notify me when they get the Moda boxed project in stock. I’m working on my quilt today. Just need to get the top and bottom borders on and I will email you a picture. Thanks for your help with the setting. Will also post it on Facebook group. Sure enjoyed sewing along this year.
Thank you so much for sending me that photo of your quilt Marsha!–it is so pretty!!
BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL, can you share how you did you setting. Thank You
Thank you! I just alternated my blocks with the 6″ finished block that has the striped fabric. It was a really simple way to spread out the Block Heads blocks. The center square finishes at 2″, the striped strips end up being 1″ wide as do the outside strips.
Is block 29 your alternate? I think the stripes set off the blocks. Thanks for the idea!
Block 29 was one of the blocks that I designed–in my quilt lay out it’s the first block in the very top row.
I absolutely love the Spring Brook line and really enjoyed the YouTube video of quilts you made with it. The striped bindings really give your quilts a distinctive touch. Can’t wait to get started quilting with it this spring!
Thanks so much!–I really like what a striped binding adds to a quilt. =)
Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous! It’s perfect for brightening our gray winter days! Your fabrics are always beautiful.
I really appreciate that–thank you!
Just stunning, thank you so much for sharing your expertise and joy!
Wow! I absolutely love the striped alternate block! What a great idea!😊
It was such a simple block to add and I really like it too!
Hi, Ilove your quilt. It was a great job and it makes me believe, that this arkward year can´t have been that bad. Those gre stripes makes it really fresh. Congratulations
Thank you!–and you are right…2020 was a hard year but there is always joy and goodness even in the hard times. =)
Hi Corey.
I so love your SPRINGBROOK collection. I wonder if you could be so kind as to post which GRUNGE basic colours match Spring Brook, please. I have the Bella solids in stock, I always match to your collections, but I would love to offer Grunge to my clients. Many thanks in anticipation. Here in England we will not get the fabric for ages yet as we are at least 8 to 12 weeks behind USA, due to Covid.
Keep well and thank you for designing such wonderful collections
Regards
Of course!–thank you so much for carrying Spring Brook. We are just starting to see it arrive to quilt shops here in the US this week and it is a welcome bit of spring. These are the grunges that I would pick (some match better than others–the green, I thought, was quite nice). 30150-115 Elafin, 30150-347 Powder Blue, 30150-152 Pear, 30150-156 Grey.
I think yours is my favorite so far! Do you have a pattern for your filler block and what fabric is that stripe please!
No pattern for the alternate block–it’s just a simple patchwork square..2 1/2″ center square and 1 1/2″ strips for the next two borders. The stripe is from my Sugarcreek wovens line.
Outstanding!!! Turned out lovely. Thank you for your participation!
Thank so much!
Fabulous quilt! Really an amazing sampler!
