Cali & Co. Mystery BOM Block 3
It’s the 3rd Saturday of the month which means it’s time for the next Cali & Co. mystery block! Yay!…It’s been fun seeing all of your blocks in the Coriander Quilts Facebook group. I look forward to seeing Block #3 popping up too. =)

I really like both versions. =) I’ve shared a tutorial on how to piece today’s block in the video today and shared a helpful fabric tip. You can watch here.

I always enjoy watching your Saturday morning videos. They inspire me in my quilting journey. My sewing friends and I each made the scrappy Irish Chain you featured a couple years ago. We all commented on how much we appreciate your pressing guide. It made the entire quilt come together so easily. One of my friends finally finished hers and I had the privilege of quilting it for her. I used a large floral design called rhododendron which looked beautiful in the negative spaces. I used the same design to quilt my own scrappy Irish chain.

Happy Spring! I am also an Ohioan and looking so forward to the spring flowers that are now peeking out! The hot cross buns title caught my attention. My youngest daughter loved when my mom would make her hot cross buns for Easter every year, still one of her favorites! The fabric is beautiful and definitely makes me think of spring!

I am fairly new to your podcast and I am really enjoying them. It adds to my Saturday morning.
I have to tell you I have never joined a mystery quilt along. I find that if I don’t like a block, I wouldn’t be motivated to make it. When I saw you were starting one I did not plan on participating. Then I saw the first two locks and really liked them. So, for the first time I am doing the mystery quilt along and loving the blocks. The third one we got today did not disappoint. I can’t wait to make it.

What a terrific block! I’ve been really enjoying piecing this BOTM with my Peachy Keen FQ samplers from FQS, so this will be another pleasure to see come together. I’m looking forward to picking out this month’s choices. I’ve been trying to make them quasi-adherent to the month, color-wise, so the greens will need to come out this time. 🙂

I’m really enjoying your Saturday videos. I had bought the materials for the Cali & Co Mystery BOM, but was hesitant to start as I wasn’t sure about the scrappy first block. However, the more blocks I see, the more I’m loving the scrappy look of this BOM, so I’ll be jumping in soon!

Corey, hello from Indiana. I am familiar with your area, I have a sister living there. It seems we are there weekends and can’t do the shopping I would like to do. When I retire I can come during the week and shop. (Like I need more fabric!) The give away looks very interesting and fun. I love the fabric, Cali & Co. Next weekend I have a quilt retreat and will finally get the quilt made using Spring Brook. It was from Fat Quarter Shop’s Make a wish one year. Not sure which year.

My sister lives in Washington State (west coast) & I live in Rhode Island (east coast) the farthest two points of the U.S.. We don’t get to be physically together to often living so far apart.
My sister contacted me about working on the 2025 BOM Mystery by you, Cory that has been refreshing to work on together. She’s using the Cali & Co fabrics and I’ve had a bundle, High Street by Lily Ashbury, Moda for years that I’m finally using for this project. It’s exciting to see the same patterned blocks in the different fabric lines & time with my sister spending together on FaceTime.

I have always wanted to purchase fat quarter shop boxes but was afraid I would not like the fabric. If it was yours I know I would love it. So Im gonna give your contest a try. I made a costly mistake in not ordering your starberry when it came out. Now i’m paying dearly trying to find some of the fabric. So I have a message to your fans. If you see it and love it get it ASAP. It is very expensive if you have to order it from 5 or 6 different shops.

A lot of people were happy that there was another option in the January box because they don’t enjoy EPP. I like EPP so I would have loved that box, especially with those Sunday Brunch charm packs. Since it’s a runner, it won’t take a year to complete either LOL. LOVE the scrappy style mystery blocks. I’m drawn to scrappy. I think they remind me of the quilts I have from my grandmother.

I bought the February Sew Sampler box. It was my first one. The boxes are a good value. I have a Grandmother’s flower Garden paper pieced top that has been in progress for 20 years because I’m not sure how to put it together. I love paper piecing.

I like you showcasing at the start of your post what quilts others have done. I am just getting back into quilting (for charity) and trying to use up fabric I already have. There are so many new tools and ways of doing things.
Could you do a segment on how to repair a pieced quilt block? I made pieced airplane quilts 30+ years ago and some of the fabric has shredded on the airplanes.

Thank you, for everything you do. I love your fabric and can’t wait for Abloom. I recently became obsessed with EPP and was bummed when I didn’t get January. I had to put the brakes on purchasing fabrics, because it was out of control. So out of control that I used 100 yards of fabric in January, to make pillowcases for LA fire victims. That only put a small dent in it.
I am curious why you don’t recommend direct sunlight, if hanging outside. I’ve always done that and never had an issue, but then I also don’t have bleed issues either. Very weird.

I have to say I am particularly drawn to the “Barn Star” patterns. They remind me of the Amish painted trivets that my mother had in our kitchen. The trivets surrounded the soffit above the cabinets though out our kitchen. Also. I would love to be considered in your Quarter shop/Sunday brunch “Give-Away”. I am about to begin your mystery block of the month. This will be the first time I have attempted a scrappy quilt. I must say I am very much out of my comfort zone. Your blocks are beautiful. I am hoping I will achieve something that doesn’t look like a mess. I think that is why I have not started the project. Thank you for always being encouraging and making quilting look easy.

I thank you SO much for the reminder to look at all of the remaining 4.5” and 3” squares and give thought to color balance/usage. As much as I thought I was doing a decent job, I was so conscious of using the limited part of Cali & Co that are not the top of my personal rainbow, that I have at least one color family that has been way under utilized at the block 3 point. I have made some type of measurement mistake, now that the block is finished (although the finished size is correct), but it will all be fine. I will need to sort out what I did (or did not do) before next month.
Have always been more than curious about the FQS Sew Sampler boxes, so I would be happy to have my name included in the giveaway.

The January Fat Quarter box patters look like a lot of fun to put together. As are your mystery blocks. Fantastic use of half square triangles. I have a purpose for the ones I have been making along the way of other quilts.

I recently found your channel and blog and look forward to your videos on Saturday. This is my 3rd video that I am watching and I loved your idea of laying out the fabrics, coz I do tend to choose my favorites from a pack and often have to change the layout to ensure I dont have one color dominating one area of the quilt. For some reason, I have only began my journey in the quilt world with you this year. I love your blocks of the month . . .you and your creativeness and your wonderful light hearted attitudes toward life is so calming for me. At 79, I have made 22 quilt tops (queen and lap). Since the middle of December. We winter in Yuma Arizona…and it has been to windy with sand storms to be outside very much. All of these and more will go to the Estherville Iowa Community Christmas project. I am happy you are in my world!

Thank you Cory for all your info! I learn a lot from all you quilters, unfortunately, the one that I’ve watched the most over the last few years was Donna Jordan, who just passed away. I love the way she told you on all her little tidbits on on how to hold the fabric to finger pressing and the such which I’ve been a lifelong sewer, but I’ve done garments and baby stuff. Quilting is something new to me for the last few years so it’s been interesting learning all these and I’ve had to put up with that with chemo & doctors appt and everything so it’s been hard for me, but I’m glad I found you because you also have a special way of relating things on your video. I don’t do blogs, but I found that on your blog, you have a lot of information there too, so I guess I’m going to have to introduce my horizon to a lot more blogging. Lol Anyway, I have purchased a few things from your store on Etsy and at least this way it’s giving me a chance to improve my Quilting blocks anyway thank you very much. I appreciate all that you do and you have a very nice day and I love your kitty cat.

Hi Corey – I am a long time quilter and participating in your 2025 BOM. I am making one in my Tilda fabrics and a second one in Beautiful Day scraps. For me it is fun to have a block with simple shapes (HSTs) that allow me to “play” with the fabrics. And I love how you are finishing the blocks!! I have a quick question about the mystery block quilt ago. When the pattern states to save the extra half square for a later block is that at our choice when we want to use or will you tell us which block to use them in.
