Beautiful Day Mystery BOM Fabric Requirements (and giveaway)
Happy 2022! I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season. Today I am sharing the fabric requirements for the Cotton & Joy Mystery block of the month along with a fun giveaway so read to the end!

This is going to be such a fun sew along! You can read more about the sew along here. If you are still on the fence about participating, I wanted to share a little bit more info. As I mentioned in the intro post, this sew along is beginner/intermediate. I would say that the piecing is simple, but this is a larger quilt…if you make the quilt exactly as I have, the finished size is 86 1/2″ x 104 1/2″ which is pretty much a queen size quilt. 90″ x 108″ is pretty standard for a queen. You could opt to leave off borders if you wanted a smaller size.
If you haven’t made a larger quilt, that might feel intimidating to you!–but I did keep the piecing on the simple side to even things out. =)
I designed this quilt to use the panel from Beautiful Day. Specifically, I designed it to use the white panel you see on the right in the photo below.
This is the Beautiful Day Panel in either red or white. It was Beautifully quilted by Rebecca Silbaugh.
We will be cutting the panel apart and using those pretty motifs in the blocks we make. The fat quarter bundle of Beautiful Day includes the white panel so it is perfect for this quilt along.
I just checked the shipping status of Beautiful Day yesterday, and as of then, it is looking to arrive in quilt shops by the end of January/Beginning of February. That date can change though–I’ll try to keep you guys updated. Once the fabrics start shipping to quilt shops, you will be able to purchase them locally as well as online. I encourage you to check with your favorite quilt shop to see if they can kit the quilt along for you. So many shops are happy to do that if they have the fabrics!
The start of the quilt along depends on when the fabrics arrive in quilt shops. I am still thinking, based on what I am seeing now, that we are looking at a February/Early March start. I’ll keep you all posted but I want to make sure we give the quilt shops plenty of time to get the fabrics in their shops and you guys time to get the fabrics in hand.
Another fabric line that works well for this quilt along is Apricot & Ash.
If you have a fat quarter bundle of Apricot & Ash as well as the panel I designed for that line, that would also work perfectly. Here’s a little reminder of what that one looks like:

Apricot & Ash is still available to purchase in various quilt shops. If you can’t find it locally, I did a quick little google and was able to find it online (at least at the typing of this post =)–both the fat quarter bundle as well as the panel. The panel is not included in the Apricot & Ash bundle so you will need to make sure to purchase it separately.
I know some of you are thinking you might prefer to sew along without using a panel. You can!…but, I don’t think it will be as pretty. The center of these blocks really sparkle with the panel added. I will be giving you tips about how to work with the panel and it won’t be tricky!
If you do opt to go the non-panel route, you might think about fabrics that you would want to highlight as block centers…something really special that you want to shine.
In place of the panel, you would need 1 1/2 yards of fabric.

Those yard stick boxes are so cute! I’ve often wondered what happens to companies that make things like yard sticks when technology changes. Growing up we always had a yard stick to measure things. I just realized we no longer have one and I bet my grown children do not either. Funny how that happens and we don’t even realize it until we see something like this.

Such pretty fabric!! When I saw the snippet of the first block, I thought “oh no, it’s appliqué”…(I’m not very good at appliqué!) but as I read further and found that the panel is used for those pretty blocks, I thought, “ I could do this!!!” 😁🤩

I think anything made with this fabric is going to be so beautiful! I have 2 questions: how big are the blocks, and how many months will this be? What a beautiful fabric line! I will participate in the sew along, however, I will be using a FQ bundle I already have. My husband is recently disabled and I’ll still trying to get the hang of getting paid once a month ( and half as much!) . But, it’s still A BEAUTIFUL DAY AND A BEAUTIFUL LIFE, because he’s still here with me!
Our quilting community can make any day “a beautiful day”. I have to wonder if that isn’t why you named this line of fabric as you did! It would certainly brighten the home of anyone who receives it….and maybe the home of the person who is gifted the quilt it is sewn into.

Quilting is such a blast. It is amazing how the same fabric line with a different pattern can make such a difference. My grandmother made quilts that we slept under, my mother made quilts that we used to snuggle up and watch TV. My quilts are made as bedspreads and gifts. Kind of an evolution. The other day I was doing some straightening in my sewing room and I found my Birdie Stitches quilt. It was one of my first and how sweet it is. Still love it to pieces.

It’s a Beautiful Day on the Prairie where there are Sundrops by the Flower Mill off Lulu Lane. The eggs are served Sunnyside Up with Pepper & Flax. Strawberry Jam is a favorite on Canning Day where Sugarcreek and Springbrook meet. The end of the day is a great time to Cozy Up with an Apricot & Ash by the fire.😁

Corey, your Beautiful Day fabric line is so dreamy and on my wishlist…….I mean, seriously on my wishlist! Every day I see the photo of the Heartfelt charity quilt coming up, I wish that I had preordered that kit and have to fight the urge to purchase a fat quarter bundle. I want it badly, but just can’t spend the money right now and need to use some of the fabric I have as my small home runneth over with fabrics. I personally think that is a sweet problem to have, but since my machine and all sewing supplies are in my living room and spilling over into the dining area, it probably looks a little cluttered and strange to those who enter our door. : ) No worries, I will just make them a gift so they think good thoughts about it! I do have a fat eighth bundle of Cozy Up and was wondering if it would be possible to make that work? And what size are the center of the blocks with the panel? I would love to go through my panel collection to see if I could use any of what I already have. Hello from the frozen north -Canada. Sad to be “frozen out” of another offer/freebie by not living in the USA. Alaska is farther away than I am! Most Canadians would happily pay the postage! This fabric is so gorgeous and the colours make me think spring is eventually going to show up. Meanwhile I’m staying indoors and making quilt projects!

I really love your fabrics, they are so beautiful. I’ve been trying to find a fat quarter bundle of Pepper and Flax but I’m striking out so far. I will keep looking.

Cory, I love your designs. I just started quilting during COVID 2020. I never thought I would be a quilter. My mom tried so hard to get me interested in sewing and quilting. I love, love, love your fabric lines. I have bought and used every one of them. I pre-ordered Beautiful Day months ago and can hardly wait for it to arrive. I usually order the fat quarter bundles and typically have leftovers I can admire in my stash and in a quilt. The lines all blend so well together and the possibilities are endless. Corey- I just love when your fabric lines come out. When you start sharing what is coming, I feel like it’s Christmas. The countdowns are full of anticipation and then when the fabric finally arrives I drop everything else. The timing of this line will be a late Christmas present and then you enticed us again with the low volume line coming soon. Double Christmas!! I can’t thank you enough for putting a smile on my face just thinking about it.

I have warned my manager that I will be taking a vacation day when it comes out so I can play with it immediately. A Beautiful Day indeed! Your fabrics are always so cheery and this makes me think of Springtime and porch swings. Even on this sunny and bitter day in January. Thank you so very much for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to the mystery and having the bundle would be a wonderful start to this new year and that sweet yardstick Box would make me smile about all those yardsticks we hid as kids. Of course it was a different time in the 1960s and my brother and I were sometimes spanked with a yardstick until we realized that a lack of yardsticks meant no spankings. That’s when I started to hide them between the mattress and box spring of my bed. My parents were baffled at the sudden lack of measuring tools. 😉

Being without my own place to call home right now is a bit challenging. I have my sewing machine and a few supplies with me. I’m so happy you are doing a quilt along that will work with the apricot and ash fabric I managed to squeeze in my trunk when I left my home. This will bring me joy while all of my sewing supplies are packed in my POD. I love all that you design so I know it will be good.
Something to make me smile when I look at my messy quilt room and what I need to do to get it back in shape. It will take me weeks probably to get everything rearranged and into shape so I can get back into my quilting process. I do have a bunch of tops that need quilted. That will take quite a while especially if I mix in projects I want to get finished or ones I want to start. So many projects and not enough time.

Before I knew much about you as a designer and quilter, I began collecting yardage of your fabrics for the color ways and design. My Coriander tub is overflowing.🥰 I used some of the fabric to make the sampler quilt from Sunday Best Quilts. I have saved my bundle of your Christmas line, Holliberry, as I just had to purchase the beautiful line before I had plans for it! It’s hard to break it up so my plan is to use a pattern that will feature/include each fabric of the line.
Thank you for sharing your artistry and talents with the quilt world. You do it with such charm and humble grace. Even though I have never met you, your kindness imbeds your videos and words, and it feels like you’re a friend to the whole quilt community. I discovered your talent with your Sundrops line. I like the way you incorporate gray as a neutral. That is where I struggle. Beautiful Day looks like a treat and the panel is sew awesome. Fat quarter bundles are my favorite precut. I do struggle with sew alongs though. I like to start and keep working to completion. I tend to wait until the last instruction is released and the Katir bar the door…

I typically shy away from Mystery BOMs and use of panels, but you have a way of making it sound so appealing!
I made two quilts with your apricot and ash line that included the panels. I gave them as presents for christmas. I’ll be on the lookout for this new line. The panels make such cute blocks!
Well, where do I begin. My family and I are currently with our power to our home since the snowstorm(s) that left 18 inches of snow. We are on day 4. So no power, no phone service, no intranet. With that I am commenting while hooked up to a car charger sitting in a Cracker Barrel parking lot. I love your designs and am very excited to get started on this adventure. Hopefully I will someday get power and reunite with my beloved sewing machine. Until then happy stitching friends.

when I first started making quilts…I didn’t know what BOM was…looked it up, it said Bureau of Meteorology…added quilts to it and found out what it was. I hope for rainy days to sew. Love the colors and sneak peeks

I too live near a large Amish community and often see the little kids walking to school in their cute little outfits, makes me think of how things were for my grandparents! This is sooo pretty, I did the last BOM and was in love with it, now this one comes along and I think am in love again!!! Just wondering if I will be able to do this one!!!! ! Regardless I will do my verybest because am in love with it!!!! I will be using the panel! Thanks fosr the inspiration
Thanks for sharing this quilt along and giveaway with us. But to make you smile it has to be from something my grandson said on New Year’s Eve. We had gone to my youngest daughter’s home and her family to share dinner and play some games with them. She has 2 boys and the youngest is 2 (3 in a couple of weeks). He climbed up on the couch with us and bluntly asked, “Where are the presents?!” My husband and I had been there Christmas Eve and presents were shared, why not New Year’s Eve in his mind? We had to muffle a laugh, bless him! Seemed pretty logical to him!

I love the ruler boxes. My dad was a carpenter & used a variety of rulers in his work. I’ve collected several interesting ones in his memory. My mom taught me to sew & I have some of her old wooden spools. I would use a ruler box like this to store/display the tools they both used

My, My, oh my, it is a HAPPY DAY, whenever I can read your blog and sew along. Your new fabric line has so much to love, red, whites, grey, and green. Flowers and hearts; what is not to love. Thank you for another year of a fun sew along. I have never used a panel yet for the center of quilt blocks. I look forward to sewing along and learning new things.
