Moda All Stars All in a Row Blog Hop

1.18.16 Moda All Stars All in a Row cover

Welcome fabric friends!

Last year, about this time, I was excited to be asked to participate in a wonderful upcoming book that Moda and Martingale Publishers were planning on publishing.  The book was called Moda All Stars All in a Row.  It is always a loud “yes!” when Moda Fabrics asks you to participate in anything.

Today, I get to share more about this fun book which is now available for purchase.

First off, the premise of the book(this is an excerpt from the book introduction written by Lissa Alexander who masterminded and compiled the book):

“I’m always on the lookout for ways to bring together the talented team of Moda Fabric designers.  Individually, you know and love their work.  But it’s rare when we all get to work together for a common goal.  I’m thrilled to share the work that 24 of Moda Fabric’s All-Stars teamed up to create — a one-of-a-kind collection of quilt rows for you to choose from.  We divided the rows into three groups — whimsical, seasonal, and classic — and added in several spacer rows.  But there are no rules about how you combine them.  Feel free to mix and match them to meet your heart’s desire and end up with a quilt that’s all your own!”

I was assigned a row from the “Well Seasoned” section of the book with a winter theme.  And I designed a cute little “Birdies and Trees” row–you can see it pictured above.  I used a mix of many different Moda fabrics–they always mix so well don’t they!

For this blog hop, we were each paired with another designer and asked to make their row using our fabrics.  I was paired with Janet Claire — and what a fun row she designed.  Her row features a bunch of adorable bunnies merrily hopping across the row.

I won’t give away how the bunnies are constructed but let me tell you–she has an ingenious method for making these little guys.

For my take on the bunny row, I used Mochi Linen dot for the background(I cannot get enough of the stuff!) and a springy mix of fabrics.

I decided my bunnies needed some spring flowers to hop through–It’s cold and snowy here in Ohio(more cold than snowy) and I needed a little springtime action.

Flowers

I used the flowers from Kate Spain’s row–just smaller to make my flowers.

I did some of the flowers at 50% of the original size and some at 35% of the original size.  That’s another great way to really mix up the rows within the book.

bunnies

I plan to use the bunny row for a spring time runner.  Any of the rows in the book would make great table runners–if they aren’t as wide as you might like (they all vary in width) simply add borders.  So, I free motion quilted the whole thing and used one of the prints from Prairie as the backing.

Just need to add the binding and it’ll be a finish.
