Moda Block Heads Block 41

Welcome to week 41 of Moda Block Heads Round 3. =)

Our block today is brought to us by Jen Kingwell and you will find the free block pattern on her blog.  I opted to do the applique on this block by machine as I typically do.  I used the blanket stitch and a light beige colored thread to finish the edges.  I used a dime to trace the interior circles onto my fusible.  The dime was slightly bigger than the template pieces for the 6″ block.  This made them easier to finish by machine.  However, doing this meant that they wouldn’t fit on the smaller circle as shown in the pattern.  So, I opted to just use the larger circle.  If you look at the original pattern below, you’ll see what I mean.

Another thing that I did was to double up on the fabric for that larger circle.  I fused a solid white piece of fabric under the white with x’s fabric.  This eliminates the shadowing that would have been visible from the petals below.  It’s a trick I use when I don’t want fabrics showing through.

My fabrics are a scrappy mix…and isn’t that bee just the cutest. =)  Those gray fabrics are from Spring Brook and will be available in January.

Hope you have fun sewing up the block for this week! Corey
