Moda Mystery Box Unboxing and New Project

I have been so excited to share this video with all of you!…it was such a fun one to film.

Last fall, my friends at Moda and I started cooking up a fun video idea and today I get to share.  In December, they sent me a mystery box full of fabric and notions.  After Christmas, Ryan and I started filming a series of videos beginning with the unboxing of all of the items and ending with the projects I made using some of the items in the box.  In the video, I chat about trying out some of the different notions that were new to me and share my thoughts about designing a project using what they sent me.

It was so much fun to film this video and I hope you love watching.

You can catch the video here.

Be sure to watch all the way to the end for an amazing giveaway! Corey

WOW! Who wouldn’t love to win this fantastic box!? Like Christmas morning! Ha. I have recently been obsessed with low volume quilts and have really enjoyed seeing how they make a quilt pop, especially with some fussy cutting cute flowers, animals or words. I do use the light fabric in a line for my backgrounds more now that a solid and like you pointed out, they are “crisper” when piecing and I love the outcome. That is a truly great bundle! I do love my wool pressing mat so I bet that bar would make pressing seams open a breeze. I too am interested.in the papers. I have looked at the layer cakes ones several times and do have one but have not used it. Even though they seem self-explanatory, I would like to see you demonstrate one. The light looks amazing too! Great block too! I love a cut apart block that makes a quilt look way more difficult than it is. Thank you!

Corey, I love your videos, fabric, patterns, designs and all of those funny BLOOPERS. I have made so many quilts with your fabrics and patterns that I can have my very own TRUNK SHOW. Oh boy, how I would love to win this box and make more quilts to add to my collection. Thanks for all of your videos. I love pressing on my wool mat and using the wool board to press my seams open would be so great. So many of your patterns require seams to be pressed open. I am currently making a wedding quilt for my granddaughter’s June wedding using Joy Filled pattern and Buttercup and Slate. That 1st block is so hard, but the second one is a piece of cake. Love it!!. Thank you.

How fun was this! I really enjoy your tutorial videos because you share such good technique helps. From pressing to machine stitched binding to how to get great 1/4” seams and perfect corners on blocks like a snowball. I have learned so much and I feel like my finished quilts are looking better than ever. You are my go to “how to” lady… I always check your channel first when I need to figure something out. Thank you for the great information and inspiration!

Would like to see how to use the cupcake papers and also would like to use the Ewe and Me wooly pressing bar, especially if I could win this box!!!

  14. Corey, I loved your quilt binding video. I always had a hard time connecting the ends together. Your method is so easy. I would like to see a video of the Cupcake and/or Layer Cake paper piecing. You are awesome!!

  15. Linda Jennings says:

I just watch your video unboxing Moda’s supplies. I loved it. I especially loved the Liberty fabrics. I’ve used the “Cupcake” papers before to make 2 table runners. I already have a pattern in mind for the Liberty fabrics. I made it in Christmas fabrics last year. I would love that wool pressing bar, I already have pressing mat and I love that.

  16. Marilyn Miller says:

I too have the machine light and it is such a great thing since my sewing room is dark and at retreats or open sewing days the lighting isn’t always so bright. I stuck mine on the side of my machine and angled the light down the left side of the needle as it is always the darkest there. Makes such a difference. I also have Magic Pins (but not the flat head ones) and I love them. I can actually hang on to them when I reach for one so I don’t have to grab a magnet and sweep the floor before I leave my sewing room! I have some arthritis in my hands so that gripping feature on those pins makes a big difference. I’m interested to see what you do with the bag tool! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us!

  17. Carol Blackall says:

Love your videos and especially loved the new patterns you designed. I have the seam strip stick and was so happy to see you demo the new one with the wool attached. I think that will have to go on my list to purchase! Would love to win the moda box, thanks for making such fun videos for all of us to enjoy..

Love your video this grey Saturday. It really brightened up my day. I have a wool pressing mat that I love, however, the pressing bar has changed my quilt block life. I have the medium size and was debating on the next size up for some of those bigger blocks. I’m glad you are liking yours as well.

Love the fabrics by Brenda Riddle and the pattern you chose. Showcases the fabrics beautifully.

I sure could use a new light as my eyes are getting older and I could use all the help I can get, lol. Hope I get to win the Moda box. Thanks for your videos they are inspiring.

  21. Kathy says:

    Hello Corey,
Thank you for sharing your you tube video on opening and sharing your mystery box. What an amazing box of goodies for someone lucky person. You introduced me to some fun and unique notions that I will need to check out.
The videos I enjoy watching the most are videos where you share a variety of quilts you’ve done with your new lines or with a new book. Seeing the completed quilts from these videos really gives me a vision of the type/style of quilt I will choose to make with my fabrics.
I love your enthusiasm as you talk to your followers and thoroughly enjoy viewing your videos.

  24. Patricia Kavanaugh says:

  26. Nancy Wood says:

As I am a fairly new viewer of your YouTube site the Moda Mystery Box really intrigued me. How often do they send you one of these? Also, where do you get all those neat shirts you wear?

  27. This is the first time I have watched one of your videos. I really enjoyed it and was inspired by it as well. Thank you for teaching me about how you can match different fabrics for great-looking squares!

  28. Nancy Evans says:

  30. Evanna Powell says:

Corey- Thank you for the unboxing video. I enjoyed it very much and I especially like your positive, encouraging and inspiring content!
You asked for comments about what we would like to see so I would love to see a video about how to select fabrics that work well together. I have made two quilts with beautiful fabrics that just did not work when the whole thing was put together. I would also like to see information about how to set my blocks on point. I made your Beautiful Day Mystery BOM ( which I LOVE) and would like to learn how to set the blocks on point.

  31. Patricia Spiegel says:

  35. Teresa Barrette says:

Did I miss who won the giveaway?

  36. Dawn Wyda says:

Hi Corey, I received an email with the YouTube Moda Fabrics Mystery Box thumbnail saying –you won a surprise package. I did like and comment, and already was subscribed. It came up on my gmail account which is connected to my comments. But I didn’t want to get excited until I knew it was for real.

    • Corey says:

The message didn’t come from me. There was an unkind commenter replying to a few comments yesterday saying that a surprise package had been won. I’ve blocked those users from the channel so hopefully we don’t see anymore of those comments. The giveaway doesn’t end until Saturday.

  37. Dawn Wyda says:

Would you reply using this email address

  38. Teresa Barrette says:

I too received an email saying that I won the giveaway. They want you to telegram them and then ask for money to ship your prize to you, then they keep asking for more money.

    • Corey says:

There were a few people that received replies to their comments yesterday saying they had won something. Those leaving the replies have been blocked from the channel. I will be the only person announcing the giveaway winner (which doesn’t end until Saturday) and my giveaways have always been free.

  39. Patty Jones says:

Finally found a few moments to watch the video and absolutely loved it!!! Such fun to see your surprise and watch the process of you deciding what to use the fabrics for, and seeing it come together. : )

  40. valerie says:

  42. Joy says:

I love to press my seams open so the wooly bar would be a tool I’d used evey day! I’d love to have a video of your cutting and putting a block together.

  43. Tracia says:

Loved this video and the way you showed one quilt pattern in two color schemes. I press seams open – so will be sure to look for a wooly bar.

  44. Cat says:

Loved the mystery box. Is there a way to purchase them if we don’t win? How often do they have mystery boxes? Thanks.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
