Today, Amy, of Stitchery Dickery Dock will be sharing about Playful Petals over on her blog. I really hoped Amy would join my blog tour after I ran across this amazing quilt she made.
This is Amy’s “Tuileries” quilt that she designed to showcase Heather Bailey’s, True Colors, fabrics. The design fits in perfectly with the quilts in my book–I love it!! You can read more about Amy’s quilt here.
Be sure to pop over to her blog sometime today to see what she is sharing about Playful Petals!
Each day of the tour I will also be sharing quilts from my book:
Today, I thought I would start things off with the cover quilt, Rainbow Petals.
Rainbow Petals is designed to use a layer cake or 1/8 yd. cuts of fabric. I love it in all of it’s scrappy goodness!–The original quilt was made using Vanessa Christenson’s line of fabric Simpy Color with just a couple Sew Stitchy prints by Aneela Hoey thrown in.
My mom hand quilted Rainbow Petals for me using 8 wt. Perle Cotton in a rainbow of colors. The accompanying Rainbow Petals Pillow is made using a few sweet, Japanese prints. The pillows in the book are a wonderful way to use up some scraps.
You can read all about my inspiration for writing Playful Petals here.
Be sure to stop back tomorrow for some more quilty fun! I would love if you would ask your applique questions in the comments so I can take time to answer them during the blog tour. And remember, I’ll also be sharing 2 free patterns with you and the blog tour will be ending with a wonderful giveaway. 🙂
This is a great idea. I love following you and I just signed up for Amy’s blog. Look forward to the rest of the Blog Tour!
Love how your mother hand-quilted your quilt in the rainbow colors using simple stitches!
THANKS AMY! These are such beautiful projects!
HAPPY STITCHING!
I have never appliqued before, but I have these dupioni silk fat quarters that I want to use for applique. I was thinking about using fusible interfacing and do the turn inside out method. Does that sound like a good idea? I don’t know how the interfacing will work with the silk.
Thank you for doing the book and being so sharing. Appliqué the “a” word.i have not done appliqué they way its usually thought of in the quilting world. I appliqué repairs for my grandchildren’s favorite, blankets, pillows, stuffies. Appliqué to fix their favorite treasures makes both of us very happy
My question is how do you hold the appliqué piece so as you sew around everything comes out even no puckers or wrinkles I’ve hade more than a few times that I’ve had to add embrodery to cover appliqué boo boos
Thank you
Colleen
It looks like a great book, Corey. I have put it on my Christmas book wish list which I make and give to my hubby every year. I shall have fun hopping to see all the other bloggers too.
This looks like a wonderful book!
Found you from Kathy’s Quilts site. So happy to visit and see so many wonderful petals for inspiration. I made an X and O quilt from a bunch I made last year.. you are inspiring me to finish the peel border and get to hand quilting it. Looking forward to this little hop you are hosting.
I have had the best time going from site to site and have spent the better part of today doing just that. Lovely work by some talented ladies.
