Scrappy Irish Chain Piec

Happy Saturday!  Today, over on the YouTube channel, you’ll find a Scrappy Irish Chain quilt block tutorial.

In the video, I share how I lay out my fabrics, piecing tips, as well as pressing information.

You can watch the video here.

I’m using a scrappy mix of my fabric lines combined with the Beautiful Day floral print on white (for the background) and Moda Bella Solid in the color Etchings Charcoal (the gray squares).

I will continue sharing my blocks as I finish them throughout the upcoming months in other YouTube videos.  You are welcome to join and share your blocks in the Coriander Quilts Facebook group if you are sewing along!

Have a wonderful weekend! Corey

This is going to be such a fun scrap buster project! Thanks for walking us thru it!

🙋‍♀️ What was that correction for cutting out the background strips? I know you said there was one but now I can’t find it.

Sew excited for this sew along! I’m changing my background from solid white to a flower house basics fabric with purple polka dots to match my purple accent squares. Glad I did this after only one block 😉! Thanks for pushing me along. This has been on my list for years!

For my design boards I use foam core poster board to which I glue my leftover batting to and then on the outside edges, I use white duct tape to hold the edges. I am so glad you gave the pressing instructions that you used.

I started sewing my scrappy Irish Chain today. I have decided to make it a little smaller because I prefer lap size for gifting. I am doing 12 blocks total(3×4) and may add a small border (21/2 “)of the accent fabric which would finish it about 58 x 76 which is a great lap size . It also cuts down the amount of squares I will need by one half !!!

    Hi Corey
Thank you so much for your videos in preparation for making the Scrappy Irish Chain quilt. I came across this pattern about 12 months ago and have been keeping my eye out for fabrics and colours that I wanted to use ever since. I have finally set on bright coloured various Batik jelly rolls and white batik for the centres. Do you have any tips about perhaps using strip piecing some of the bulk squares to get started??? I even thought about 1/4ing the strips and piecing them in pairs or 3’s. I’m also on the lookout for the crosshatch and feathers Longarm quilting pattern shown on the featured pattern but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. I was wondering if you, or anyone who reads your Comments, had any suggestions who might have designed the pattern. Cheers from Down Under

Working from jelly rolls, you could definitely strip piece a little bit. I like the idea of doing them in 3s because those will fit in the rows pretty nicely. You’ll still want to have single squares to fit in some of the rows. And pay attention to the rotation of your pressing. As far as the quilting, I would have thought that the quilt was custom quilted but maybe someone else has a different thought!

I have been wanting to make this pattern for a very long time and was so excited when I seen you were making it a SAL. This will be my first time sewing in this manner. Busy getting everything cut and ready to start sewing. My question on the cutting process, is the white cut out having the fabric in a single layer?

Love this project, Corey! Thank you for the sew along!
I have several ‘random’ 5″ and 2.5″ squares, several different collections.
I would like to use them up. Can I use them together, or is that just too funky?
Also I have a collection of various background pieces, or I have yardage of
background fabric. Do you have suggestions for me?
Like you, I usually plan scrappy quilts, but in an effort to ‘use it up….’
    Thank you, Linda
