Lee is sharing her thoughts on Playful Petals along with her adorable Daisy Fields pillow(pictured above) on her blog today. I love the yarn dyed dark linen background fabric she chose to use for her pillow. That fabric has been wanting to make it’s way into my stash for way too long! And now, we are moving onto the giveaway portion of today–I know you all have been waiting. =) I seriously want to enter this giveaway myself…it’s a good one!–And it’s all about my favorites.

Next up, how about some Moda Fabrics layer cakes?!—Moda fabrics has been and will remain my favorite fabric manufacturer. 15 years ago, I fell in love with a certain Moda fabric designer and spent hours scouring the internet for pieces from one of her lines of fabric. This was back in the day of dial up internet which meant it was slow going..but, I just fell in love with Moda!
Moda Fabrics has sent me two layer cakes for my giveaway, one of Kate Spain’s new Horizon line of fabric & one of The Jung’s new Pedal Pushers line of fabric.
Well, I figured why stop with one online shop?..So I reached out to another of my favorite online shops…Fabric Shack. Fabric Shack has both a great online store and a brick and mortar store which happens to be about 25 minutes from my sister-in-law’s house in Cincinnati. So, it is a must stop for me whenever we visit. The thing I love the most about shopping online at Fabric Shack is that they will cut 1/8 yd. cuts of fabric. For my scrap loving self, this is perfect! In fact, I bought 1/8 yd. cuts of the complete Up Parasol line from Fabric Shack when I was making my Tiled Blooms quilt:

Well, since I don’t do all of my fabric shopping online, I contacted my favorite local quilt shop, Miller’s Dry Goods, to see if they would be interested in donating to my giveaway…and they said yes!–Now you might be thinking that you won’t be able to shop here..but, they also have a wonderful online shop to which they’ve donated a $30 Gift Certificate.
They carry all kinds of goodies..some of my favorites: The 8 wt. Finca Perle Cotton I am always referencing for hand quilting, Aurifil thread(which everyone in blogland is always referencing), Moda fabrics, Cotton & Steel fabrics, a great selection of solids, and the list goes on. Plus, you will not find a more accommodating staff!
Plus, they have the prettiest quilting retreat center, The Rural Thimble, right beside their fabric shop. Every time I shop there, I am envious of the ladies staying over in that facility–so pretty, newly opened, and just perfect for a group of 10 ladies to get together and sew to their heart’s content.

It is tough to choose just one favorite. They have all been wonderful, but I guess I would have to choose Flower Garden with the dramatic black. Scattered Blossoms would be another favorite – great use of scraps. Good luck with the book sales.

The starflower quilt is my favorite, I like how the petals form a diagonal beaded line.
I love the cover quilt and matching cushion. I would start with the cushion to practice technique and would en make the quilt. I also love the mini version by crazymomquilts.

Umm, ALL of them!! I love Melissa’s interpretation of Daisy Fields pillow, as it’s my fav colors!
Not sure if I can pick a favorite, I love the pillow versions of almost all the patterns. I love the way the Daisy pillow can look so different with just fabric choice. I really like the Rainbow Petals and the Tossed Petals. Even though it’s not in the book the Mini Buds is on a to do list, I really love the miniatures right now.
How on earth to choose one favorite? I guess I love the pillows and mini made from the cover pattern. They look simple but beautiful. I’ve never done applique though so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about with the simple. I’d be happy to just win the book!

I was surprised to see a few of the quilt blog heavyweights actually confessed that appliqué was out of their comfort zone. Ohhh…..It’s hard to pick one project from this delightful book. I love the layered petals of Posey Patch and the elegance of Tiled Blooms. (And your fabric choices for that are gorgeous!). All of the projects are wonderful! I especially love Sunshine and Clouds. I recently pieced an orange peel quilt, but I would like to try the applique method. I particularly like the two-fabric petals of Sunshine and Clouds.

Love all the pillows as they are an easy way to add color and change a room quickly. My favorite would have to be the Tossed Petals quilt. They are all beautiful!!
It’s a toss up between the one crazy mom quilts made (I love the simplicity and red always makes me happy) and the one the fresh lemons made (I think that pattern is gorgeous).

Oh my gosh I can’t wait to get a copy of the book. Really makes me want to try applique again. I love the quilt on the cover of the book. It seems to look wonderful as a scrappy modern or as a more traditional quilt with an country feel to it depending on the fabric used Ireally want to try someday!!

Congratulations on your book! I haven’t tried applique yet, but all the bloggers on the tour say that this is THE book to learn how to do it! I’m not usually a fan of red, but Amanda Jean’s mini quilt is great with that linen as a background.

How exciting! I have been reading your book and working toward trying machine applique for the first time. I think my favorite project in the book is Posey Patch, but the first project I will try probably is Rainbow Petals. Tiled Blooms is also on my list. I’m with you on Miller’s and the Fabric Shack — I live between the two and feel very fortunate to have both within driving distance! 🙂

I love your book. Fabric Shack is also one of my favorite online shops for the same reason you stated. They let you buy the amount you want. My friend lives down the road from them and I also get to visit in person. I live in Medina county so visiting Holmes County is something I do on a regular basis.

I don’t know the name of the design but I love the light blue, navy, and yellow quilt that Quilty Habit included a picture of in her blog post. The petals are halved along their length and placed to form a circle.
