Round 4 Moda Block Heads, Block 14 + My Layout Plan

Happy Block Heads day!  We have two different options to make today.  And I’m sharing my planned layout for this quilt along so be sure to read to end if you’d like a peek.

Jan Patek is the designer for this week.  She has designed an adorable applique block for us.

Download Jan’s “Bird on a Wire block here.

We also have an alternate pieced option for today, Sharply Dressed.  Which is the block I chose to make.

You can find the Sharply Dressed PDF here.

I kept my block pretty simple, using just the pin dots from Cozy Up.  I’ve been keeping my fabric choices a bit simpler for this quilt along.  I think that for a sampler quilt, the quilt works so nicely if each block looks great on it’s own.

When you are making a quilt with multiples of the same block, I don’t find this to be as important.  You might have a block or two that you don’t prefer the fabric combo as much but when mixed with all of the other blocks of the same pattern you won’t think about it.

In a sampler quilt, where each block is different, I pay more attention to my fabric pairings and color choices.

I wanted to share my planned layout for this quilt along as well.  I do not have yardage requirements or cutting instructions as of yet but at least this gives you a bit of time to decide if you might like to utilize this layout when I release that info.

This is what I am thinking for this quilt.  I’ve plugged in some of the blocks that I’ve already made so you can see how they will fit in.  For the gray, I think I will be using the gray pin dot from Cozy Up but as you can see, a solid would work just as well.  This layout, using 9″ blocks will finish at around 72″ square and it will use 25 blocks.

For those of you joining in on the Beautiful Day Mystery BOM, I will be back on Saturday to share Block 5.  I can’t wait to share this one with you! =)  See you then, Corey
