Sewcialites Block 36 (final block!)
Today is the last block release of the Sewcialites quilt along…and it’s the second block that I designed for all of you. =)
This is the Kindness block, and you will find the free pattern here (as well as all of the blocks that have been released for this sew along).
This block is a fun star block…and I love those little bees flying around my block. =)
Starching your fabrics before cutting is going to help with your accuracy on this one. Actually, you all know that starching your fabrics before cutting & sewing helps with accuracy on all blocks…but you will especially notice it when you are working with small pieces. I don’t as often starch when I am making 12″ size blocks…but 6″ and under, I do enjoy a good starch.
Now I need to make the alternate blocks for this little quilt and that is going to involve some applique. I haven’t started on them yet. =) I shared my lay out plan at the beginning of the sew along:
I will need to make 32 additional blocks…they are basically a little half orange peel appliqued block. And then I’ll need to make 14 of the half blocks to piece around the border. I will probably just do a straight stitch (rather than the blanket stitch I often use), raw edge machine applique to complete these blocks so they should go somewhat quickly. It will be such a pretty little mini quilt when it is finished.
This sew along has been so much fun and I hope you all have enjoyed it as well! I will be back on Monday to share block 3 of my Spring Brook Blossoms block of the month so be sure to stop back.–have a wonderful weekend! Corey
Thanks for the post – I really like your layout! Very pretty and different!
Love it! Can’t wait to see the finished quilt.
Wow, Corey… beautiful! Any chance you might do a blog post on how to make those orange peel blocks? 😉
Thank you!!
Lovely block, and I love your layout!! Not sure how I missed it when you posted it the first time, but really like it.
Yes I would not mind seeing how you tackle those orange peal blocks. The layout is great! How does one figure the size on the the orange peels?
