Spring Brook Blossoms: Goldenrod Block (Block 5)
It has been a busy summer over here! Chloe & Elonie start school this week and I can’t believe that we are already at back to school time! I know that you have been anxiously awaiting block 5 of our Spring Brook Blossoms quilt along. =) Be sure to read to the end for another fun quilt along announcement. =)
Block 5 is the Goldenrod block, you will find the pattern available here.
This block utilizes half square triangles and hourglass blocks. I once again used my favorite method for piecing hourglass blocks. It is so nice to make them oversized and then trim them down. And using squares to start with means we don’t have to work with triangles which is always nice.
If you follow me on Instagram (@corianderquilts) you’ve seen Tiggs and Frances every now and then–the two stray cats that we took in. Frances joined us first about two years ago–she was just a wee little 6 week old kitten when we took her in. And Tiggs made his debut last year about this time. If Tiggs is outside when I am taking photos this is usually what happens:
He is so funny, it is almost like he can hear the fabric rustling and that is his cue to come on over. =) I have another photo where he is laying on my block math as I worked outside for this quilt along earlier this year!–he’s a quilt kitty for sure! =)
I wanted to also let you know about my $5 patterns for this month. I have two of them for August! Pumpkin Festival is a jelly roll friendly quilt that finishes at 72″ x 92″. You can find it in my Etsy shop here along with the complete fabric requirements. It’s available in both Paper or PDF formats. For this quilt, I used my Cozy Up fabric line which should be shipping before too long.
I couldn’t resist adding in my Praises quilt pattern as a bonus $5 pattern for this month. This quilt is made use Fancy That Design House’s brand new Songbook line of fabric which I adore! I’ve been collecting her hymn tea towels for years and am so excited she is a brand new Moda designer.
You will find this pattern in my Etsy shop here in both PDF and Paper versions. No code needed to receive the discount. This is a yardage based quilt that will finish at 58″ square. And like all of my patterns in my shop, complete fabric requirements are provided in each listing.
The last think I wanted to let you all know is that I will be hosting a mystery BOM featuring Beautiful Day fabrics in 2022.
If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen me sharing my Beautiful Day projects and fabrics over the last couple weeks. Beautiful Day starts shipping in December/January and quilt shops are ordering it right now for their shops to receive then.
I was working on a quilt design for another project and fell in love with a quilt I designed that won’t work for that project. So…I’ve decided to offer another BOM but this one will be a mystery. I don’t have any fabric requirements available yet but just wanted to give you a heads up…pencil it in your calendar for early 2022.
As soon as I have the requirements (hopefully next week!), I will post them here so you can plan a little bit better. And I’ll also be sharing the new quilt projects and fabrics from Beautiful Day here on my blog soon.
Take care and happy sewing! Corey
Hi Corey, .I love what I’ve seen of the Beautiful Day collection. Mystery quilts always challenge me, because I like to know where I’m headed in a project. But I love all your collections, so I’ll just go with the flow☺️ Looking forward to your blog posting on all the things to come.
They are a challenge for me to when I participate in them!–I like to be able to plan things out ahead of time as well. =) I know just how you feel! But, they are also fun and they get me to try things/fabric combos that I might not have tried if I would have planned things out ahead of time–so I enjoy that part of things!–even if it gets me out of my comfort zone.
Corey, I did a mystery quilt this summer, and just as you said, it made me try fabric combinations I otherwise would not have tried…..and I LOVED it. So I’m going to jump in with both feet and enjoy the experience. 😌
I’m excited for it! =)
Thank you so much for these adorable flowers. I love the way my quilt is progressing. Can’t wait to finish.
We are so close to finishing!
That will be very exciting and a great way to start 2022!
Won’t it be fun!
Thank you for the heads-up on the mystery quilt! I am enjoying Spring Brook Blossoms and can’t wait for the next project. My quilt shop, Quail’s Nest has the Songbook line in and I love your pattern for it. Hmmm. Another project? We shall see!! Have a great week!
Songbook is such a a beautiful line!–I’m so excited that Stephanie is designing for Moda–her fabrics are just beautiful!
I am having trouble getting the PDF block 5 Goldenrod to work. Every time I try to download the pattern the error message states it could not load the file. I have been able to download the other blocks. Thank you for your help.
It seems to be working just fine—just did a quick double check. You could try switching your device for the download and see if that helps…if using a tablet try your computer or vice versa.
Still does not work on my end. Thanks for trying.
Beautiful blocks! I love the pumpkins for fall.
Thank you for sharing.
Can’t wait to hear about the fabric requirements for the Beautiful Day sew along. I carry your fabrics in my shop and am really looking forward to this line…would love to make sure I have enough if people ask to kit it! Thank you Corey!
Hello! Have you shared background cutting information yet? I want to be ready to sew it all together after I make the last block!
Thank you so much Corey. I like the sound of a mystery quilt too – I’m just hopeless at keeping up. Still haven’t started this quilt and I’ve got the fabric! Take care.
