Spring Brook Blossoms: Sweet Pea Block

It is the 3rd Monday of June which means it is time for another Spring Brook Blossoms block pattern. =)

Block #3 of our quilt along is the Sweet Pea block.

Were any of you Bath & Body Works fans back in the day?…I remember loving the Sweet Pea fragrance when I was in high school.  I think I would still know that fragrance today…sort of a cotton candy/flower smell.  Does B&B still have that fragrance?–what a trip down memory lane…I also enjoyed Exclamation perfume and Vanilla Fields..boy if that doesn’t date me! =)

Anyhow…on to our block pattern..although if you want to leave me your high school perfume favorites down in the comments, that would be interesting! =)

You will find the pattern for the Sweet Pea block here.

The Sweet Pea block features a Friendship Star block center.  The Friendship Star quilt block is one of my favorites (the Ohio Star block might be my most favorite).  I used a Friendship Star block as the jumping off point for my Persimmon quilt…see that same shape?

And I think the name “Friendship Star” is such a friendly =) name for a quilt block.  I always think quilters are just the nicest bunch of people…of course we need a Friendship Star block!

I am using Spring Brook fabrics for my quilt (the background is from Holliberry).  It has been a lot of fun seeing all of the different fabrics being used for these blocks over in the Coriander Quilts Facebook group as well as on Instagram using #springbrookblossomsbom…you can see those blocks here.  Both spots are growing little gardens of Spring Brook Blossoms flowers.

I also plan to pop on Instagram later today and share a video of my blocks.  So if you are a fan of videos, be sure you are following me over on Instagram. =)

I think this month’s blocks should come together pretty quickly for you and I hope you have so much fun sewing it up!

Block 4 of the quilt along will release on Monday, July 19.

If you missed Block 1, you can find it here and you can find Block 2 here.  You can find the fabric requirements for this sew along here.

Happy Sewing!…now, go share your favorite high school perfume down in the comments LOL! =)

Love the Sweet Pea block!! I haven’t started any of the blocks yet due to busy gardening season, but I will and am looking forward to it. My favorite perfumes in high school were Love’s Baby Soft, Soft Musk, and Vanilla Fields. I am pretty sure that probably dates me also; I have no idea if you can even find any of these anymore.

Love’s Baby Soft!–I had that one too. I would have forgotten all about it if you hadn’t mentioned. it. =)

      • Kim Poper says:

Oh my gosh! Me too with the Loves Baby Soft! Haven’t thought of that in forever!
I’m still waiting on my fabric to arrive for the flower blocks but working on my leaves and stems. Thank you for the great pattern!

This will certainly date me. My favorite perfume was Avon’s Charisma. Was so sad when they discontinued it. Got my Serendipity quilt top finished and am waiting for the Thatched Navy fabric to be restocked at Fat Quarter Shop for the backing. Now ready to get some fabrics picked out and start on this project. I have enjoyed seeing everybody’s fabric choices, too!

  3. Teresa says:

I don’t remember wearing perfume back then but today it is Versace Absolu.parfum .. so light, refreshing and everyone says” you smell so good!”

  4. Joan says:

I have become so allergic to perfumes since high school… Amazing how we could wear all of that when young! This is another beautiful quilt block. Thank you for your posts.

  5. I missed the first 2 patterns. How do I access them?

  6. Debbie Brugman says:

This is such a cute block. Like you next to the Ohio Star (I am from Ashtabula Co) the Friendship Star is favorite. I made my best friend a whole quilt of Friendship Stars when she retired. It’s beautiful.
My favorite scent from B&BW was Daffodil Hills. I don’t wear perfume anymore but I swear if I could find that one I would wear it. It wasn’t a perfume but a lotion.

  7. Patricia Forsyth says:

Love’s Baby Soft, Tabu and Musk. Remember that one?

  8. Jan Lewis says:

Charlie was my HS favorite . . . talk about dating a person!

  9. Pat says:

I grew up visiting a beloved aunt who passed last year my aunt Essie was an Avon lady she gifted me and my sister with little samples perfumes and lipsticks when we were girls often letting us walk with her when she visited her ladies my favorite perfume was “ Here’s My Heart”

  10. Kathy says:

This dates me but I wore Jean Nate in high school. Thanks for such lovely thoughts to begin the day along with a sweet block.

  11. Sandra L McDaniel says:

    Ambush perfune!!

  12. mje2002 says:

My dad didn’t like scents so we weren’t allowed to wear perfume. There was a light scent called China Musk from a local store that I liked. Also, Crabtree & Evelyn had a scent whose name I’m blanking on …… shoot, I can see the container, just can’t grab the name. Oh well. Thanks for the beautiful blocks. They’re so clean and bright.

  13. Deb says:

Anything Musk and vanilla back in the 60’s were great, also Wind Song was one of my favorites and I can still get it at Vermont Country Store, love the Powder more than the perfume.

  14. Kris says:

Do you remember Heaven Sent? I think that was out when I was in h.s. I graduated 1976 (U.S. Bicentennial). Love this sew along, love your fabrics.

  15. Stephanie Z Hironimus says:

I loved Liz Claiborne & found the red triangle shaped bottle in my old bedroom at my parent’s house. I remember, before I owned my very own bottle, going to a local department store & spraying my wrist, clothes & coat (& anything else that would hold the scent) so I’d smell fantastic when I’d see my high school friends!

  16. Susan says:

A few I can remember are Musk, Heaven Scent, Jean Nate, Loves Baby Soft, and Kiku.

  17. Stacia Roble says:

This is one scent not mentioned on here yet but my favorite in high school: Avon’s Sweet Honesty. I happened on this sew along and it is very lovely. I will go back to the earlier blocks to get them. Thank you!

  18. Sandy says:

This was so fun reading all the replies. I wore charisma because I grew up in a small town and it was
easy to get. I also wore Charlie and Love’s Baby Soft after we got a People’s Drug Store. I have always
loved perfume, unfornately I married a guy how hates any perfume smell. Love the quilt block for this
    month.

  19. Toria says:

Spring Brook Blossoms is such a cute cheerful quilt & I look forward to the patterns every month. Thank you, Corey! Fun to see people’s perfume responses – mine was White Shoulders. Like others, I’m allergic to perfumes now so can’t wear them.

  20. Edith Comeau says:

My favorite perfume was and still is Tigress. an only find it in the Vermont store.

  21. Nancy C Picard says:

Heaven Scent was my favorite one in high school. I knew a guy that I didn’t date and he gave Channel #5. I gave it away, I wouldn’t wear it because he gave it to me. Funny memories.

  22. Rhonda says:

I’m a teenager of the 70’s. It was Prince Matchibelli’s Cache cologne. Lots of girls liked “Charlie” by Revlon. And any boy wearing “Musk” was my downfall.

  23. Rebecca says:

Charlie and Windsong & Heaven sent. And Interlude by Frances Denney. Wore pink & blue eye shadow, lol & made a pair of bell bottoms in Home Economics:)

  24. Rebecca Frisko says:

Love this block!! Am excited to sew it.

Favourite perfume was Wild Musk … still love it!!!

  25. Marcy H says:

    Loved Exclamation & Vanilla Fields!
And I love the Persimmon quilt! I definitely don’t need another quilt project right now but it might be a fun pillow or table topper for a quicker finish =)
I haven’t started this BOM yet but I’m collecting patterns and fabrics & hoping to work on it in the fall (maybe with some Cozy Up!). Thanks so much for hosting this!

  26. Little Quiltsong says:

My aunt used to gift us with a lot of Sweet Pea body lotion etc. To this day I have sweet pea hand soup in our washroom (from Walmart) – brings back sweet memories. In school I wore ‘Cachet’ perfume – the only one that seemed to smell nice on me. No perfume for years, as not allowed at work.
Love the friendship block in this new flower pattern!

  27. Sherry says:

I loved L’air Du Temps and Heaven Scent,Youth Dew. Oh and remember Evening in Paris? I think I liked the bottle and the name more than the scent.
Of course Love’s Baby Soft was the every day go to, because you could get that at the local drug store. It smelled so clean.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
