Two blocks for Today

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. =)  If all goes according to plan, we will be out hunting for our annual Christmas tree today.  It’s a tradition in our family and one I look forward to.  I remember heading out the November after Elonie was born in October with her tucked down and zipped inside my winter coat.  We hiked up and down the hills hunting for that perfect Christmas tree and she was sleeping away the whole time.

Will today be a sewing day for you or a Christmas decorating day?  In any event, you will have two fun new blocks you can work on if you are taking part in either Moda Block Heads or Fat Quarter Shop’s Sewcialites.

First up, I want to share the alternate block I made this week for Block Heads.  It’s pictured at the top of the page and was designed by Stacy Iest Hsu.  You should be able to find it on her blog today.  Note:  the alternate blocks are not posted to the Facebook page so you will want to make sure to visit her blog.  With it being a holiday weekend here in the US, I am not sure what time she will post so if it’s not up right now, just check back on her site later.

When I received Stacy’s pattern, it was written for a 12″ block.  All of my blocks are 6″ blocks so I downsized her pattern.  I wrote the sizes I cut the pieces in my picture above so if you need it in the 6″ size, you have those sizes handy easily.  I also realized as I was taking my photo that I switched the flower placement and have the vertical flower on the right side..so make sure you don’t do that!  I am just going to leave it as it is but it would be easy to switch if I wanted to.

Next up is my 3″ Sewcialites quilt block:

This block is designed by April Rosenthal and the free pattern can be found on the Fat Quarter blog or website.  And as I mention each week, this page is a great spot to bookmark to keep track of all of the blocks that have been released in one easy spot.

I’ve used Spring Brook fabrics, as I have for all of the Sewcialites blocks.  And even though these are small blocks, most of the patterns don’t have a lot of pieces so they piece so quickly!

Corey, Thank you for taking the time out of this family weekend to share your family tradition (so glad you will continue to do that this year) and the alternate block with us. I really like it and will check the blog.
I will be doing some decorating for Christmas and a little sewing. I’m hoping to get caught up on the Holliberry BOM.
Enjoy this special day with your family.
