Calico Check {Free Quilt Pattern}
Good evening!–it’s a surprise Tuesday evening blog post, YouTube video, and free quilt pattern. How Fun!
A fun, simple quilt pattern using the red panel from my Beautiful Day fabric line popped into my head a couple weekends ago and I knew that I wanted to stitch it up.
I spent one Sunday afternoon cutting and sewing this little pretty together. In just a few hours it went from fabrics, to cut pieces, to a completed quilt top. This sort of pattern is so simple to piece. I’m sure you have seen check or gingham quilt patterns all over the place. I wanted to add the panel blocks to make it extra special and I think it turned out so pretty!
David of Quilting by David used the Keryn’s Camellia quilting design to quilt a pretty flower motif over the quilt. I think it’s such a pretty design for this project.
When the quilt arrived back home, it was quickly approved by the resident quilt inspector, Tiggs. He says it’s definitely snuggle-worthy. =)
I’ve named this quilt Calico Check. If you’d like to make a Calico Check quilt of your own, click the link below for the free PDF pattern.

KITS HAVE SOLD OUT. I have also put together a VERY limited number of Calico Check quilt kits. The kits include the fabrics needed to complete the quilt top plus the binding. You will find them in my Etsy shop here.
If you’d like a quick peek of the quilt in video format, I put together a little show and tell on my YouTube channel. You can see that here.
Thanks so much for stopping by! I’ll be back tomorrow with an update on this years Moda Blockheads sew along. =)
See you soon! Corey
I love it! I have the red panel, and I think I have other yardage that will work. Thanks for the free pattern.

Love the fabric and awesome quilt as well.
Thank you!–it was a fun quilt to piece. =)
Wonderful pattern and just the size I need. I have been keeping my eye out for a project appropriate for the large floral print. It is beautiful. Thank you for the free pattern. It looks fast and fun to make, too!
It was a fun to piece quilt…so easy and quick! I agree about finding those patterns that work well to show of the larger scale prints. So nice to have those on hand!
O…my…gosh! You have made my day, week, month, year. Not only with another awesome panel quilt idea but I just happened to see your new line coming out in Augusish….Buttercup. I will be the happiest quilter ever as soon as I can get my hands on every piece. Pepper and Flax is my all time favorite fabric collection of any designer. I have a huge stash and cannot wait to combine both lines into quilts. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Yay!–I’m so happy you like this quilt and my upcoming fabric line. =) I’m looking forward to sharing more about it soon!
Very pretty! At first I thought those red blocks involved handwork!
I love that it makes the quilt look trickier than it is! It is such a simple quilt but with the panels added it’s so special.
Corey, I love, love, LOVE that you are doing more videos!!! Love your fabrics and patterns!
Can’t wait to see your next line of fabrics!
I love the patterns you come up with. I have so fallen in love with your fabrics and the patterns you release.
Thank you so much!–that is so nice of you to say!
Thank you for sharing this adorable pattern!
You’re welcome!
Corey. What is the name of pattern with all the houses. I think it has panel pieces with pieces added around each house. How can I purchase this pattern? I don’t do Facebook or social media.
I think you are talking about Friendly Neighbor. It is carried in quilt shops and I also have it for sale in my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/CorianderQuilts?ref=seller-platform-mcnav&search_query=friendly+neighbor
