Granny’s Stars – Free Quilt Pattern
You’ve probably noticed that I enjoy providing all of you with a lot of great ways to use the fabrics in my fabric lines.
Now that the yardage for Buttercup & Slate has started shipping (just last week!) to shops in the United States, I am excited to release a free pattern for this collection, Granny’s Stars.
Granny’s Stars uses yardage of 3 different fabrics from Buttercup & Slate. It uses the white on white fabric for the background, the small yellow hexagon print for the star points, and the Grandmother’s Flower Garden cheater print for the star centers and borders. The exact skus used can be found in the pattern.
Kaylene Parry of @quilterlove66 on Instagram quilted my quilt using the quilting design Paper by Julie Hirt.
I love the Grandmother’s Flower Garden print…you can see it pictured above. It is 60″ wide fabric which makes it so versatile. Note: Because this print is not a 42″ wide fabric it is not included in any of the precuts. So if you want some of it, make sure to purchase it separately! Additionally, you might want to purchase extra of the white on white fabric in this collection. You can see it pictured below (the bottom fabric). I purchased several bolts of it and will be so happy to have it on hand to use in future projects. It’s a really pretty fabric. And just a reminder, I don’t carry fabrics in my Etsy shop. My fabrics can be purchased in quilt shops that carry Moda Fabrics both online and locally. Buttercup & Slate yardage has just started shipping to quilt shops in the US within the last several days and will start arriving to quilt shops this week.

Tomorrow is my day to share my block for Moda Blockheads…so be sure to stop back to see the new block! Have a wonderful Tuesday! Corey
I love this pattern, especially the way the Granny’s Flower Garden patches pop from the center of the stars. So clever!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for the pattern Corey. A truly beautiful quilt and such a perfect way to highlight the Grandma’s Flower Garden fabric. Super cute idea!
You’re so welcome!
Can we order the kit for Buttercup and Slate from you?
No, I don’t carry fabric. My fabrics are carried in quilt shops that carry Moda fabrics both online and locally. Buttercup & Slate is just now arriving in quilt shops.
My next quilt! It is a beautiful line and gorgeous quilt!
So very pretty. Thank you!such a talented young lady!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for the beautiful pattern. That is very sweet and kind of you!!
Is this adorable or what? 😍 I just love the way the fussy cut Grandmother’s Flower Garden print fills the star centers’ corners. They just pop! Thank you so much for providing us with such a cool (and free!) pattern! It’s going on my list of “must make soon” patterns.
Yay!–thank you!
Thank you for including the quilting pattern along with the name of the longarm quilter. I always dread the end of a pattern that says, “Quilt as desired.” The extra info you provide makes completing the top a joyous moment rather than frustrating “now what!?” moment.
I’m so glad!…I know I’ve had to track down quilting designs I’ve seen so I’m always glad when it’s mentioned in case it’s something I’d like to use also. =)
Corey, I love the cheater fabric! Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the free pattern! Can’t wait to get my fabric and get started!
You’re so welcome!–thank you!
Love this pattern! An easy one for so many color combinations! Thank you.
You’re so welcome!
Thank you, Corey, for providing this free pattern! Thinking of so many ways I can use it. Your fabric is lovely and a joy to sew with!
You are so welcome!
I have a flower garden quilt top that was hand pieced many years ago and hand quilted 1957 for my HS graduation present. Unfortunately the pieced top has worn out so I was wondering if it would be possible to use the cheater fabric to add to the top of the quilt
I sure don’t know! You could measure to see exactly what size you’d need. The hexagons in my cheater fabric aren’t square (I didn’t design them to be) so I’d be surprised if they would work perfectly even if they were almost the size you needed.
Love this. My quilt shop just got your fabrics in today! I’m going to ask the owner if she’ll cut me everything for this quilt. I want to out the cheater fabric on the back. Do you think it’ll be hard to match? Thanks❣️
I think it might be a little bit trickier to match but then again, I am not a pattern matcher!
This is a beautiful quilt and fabrics Corey, thank you so much for the free pattern!
You’re welcome!
Thank you so much for this lovely pattern. It is a treat. Looking forward to your blockhead block tomorrow !
You’re so welcome!

You’re welcome!

Oh wonderful!…I’m glad you’ve found a cute, fun quilt shop to visit!
You are such a talented designer and are very kind and generous in sharing your patterns with us. The cheater print is adorable and will probably be the only way I will be able to have any cute little hexagons in my quilts. I don’t have the patients to make those by hand, but I think they are so sweet. I also love that you make some of your prints in wider fabrics. It makes backing your pretty quilts so much nicer. Thank you.
Thank you so much Julie!
How much fabric would I need if I use 44″ wide fabric in place of the cheater fabric?
Without redoing the math, I am not sure how much more you would need.
Great way to make a quilt, with not so many fying geese! Thank you.
Wow thank you so fresh and summery
Thank you , I’m am a huge fan of your fabric and patterns. I made the heartfelt quilt and it was so fun and turned out beautiful! I know since you Have a YouTube channel I will be able to do more of your patterns. I’m excited to start Oh happy day next week. I’ve been able to acquire all except 2 fabric I need for it. I’m glad you have YouTube so I can see upcoming fabric and quilt alongs! I’m a beginner and not great at reading patterns so YouTube has helped me understand and sew more. You are amazing!
