Heartfelt Charity Quilt Along: Release 1

Good Morning & welcome to the first block release in the Heartfelt Charity Quilt Along: Beloved.

Each year, for the past number of years, Fat Quarter Shop has chosen an upcoming Moda fabric line and designed a charity quilt and sew along using those fabrics.    Last year, I participated in sewing up the Serendipity quilt as did many of you.  You can read more about my quilt from last year here.  The quilt patterns and finishing instructions are available each year by donation to Make A Wish Central & South Texas.

This year, I was excited to find out that Fat Quarter Shop would be using Beautiful Day as their featured collection.  I was even more excited to be asked to design the quilt for the 2022 charity quilt along and I love the finished quilt.

Many of you have seen the finished quilt named Heartfelt:

It is brimming with love and joy!–my favorite kind of quilt.

Today is the release day for Block 1: Beloved.  New block patterns will be released on the first Friday of each month.

You can download the Beloved block pattern here.

If you bookmark this page it is where you will find new patterns as they are released each month.

If you are unfamiliar with the way this quilt along works, the downloads are available for free with a suggested donation of $5 per pattern or a one time donation of $50 to Make A Wish benefitting Central & South Texas.  Of course no amount is too small and every little bit counts!  It has been so much fun to see how this charity sew along has grown over the years.

I had a hard time deciding what fabrics I wanted to use this year!  I am donating my quilt to be auctioned off as I did last year so I knew that I wanted to use something different than Beautiful Day so we wouldn’t have two identical quilts.

I had an extra bundle of Strawberry Jam fabric so that is what I started with:

strawberry jam fabrics

And then I started digging in my scrap bins and adding some favorite fabrics from my Moda friends.  This is going to be such a fun, friend-filled quilt. =)  I love adding in some of these pretties that I’ve been hanging onto.

I’ve also been hanging onto these Color Cuts…and this palette is just perfect.  They are a wonderful scrappy mix of Moda fabrics.

So, between the Strawberry Jam bundle, my scrap bins, and Color Cuts I will have so many pretty fabrics to pull from when making my Heartfelt blocks.

We will be making 5 Beloved blocks this month.  I am using Moda Bella Solid in the color 9900-200 for the background of my quilt.  But I might have to add in some of my Coriander Seeds white on whites to the background.

Sometimes you just want to sneak in a little something extra to make that background sparkle.

Here is a closer look at my 5 Beloved blocks.  The blue block uses fabrics by Joanna of Figtree and the center print is a Sherri & Chelsi print.

The pink block uses fabrics by Vanessa of Lella Boutique:

The red block uses my fabrics:

The green fabrics are mine too:

And the yellow uses Joanna’s:

In addition to the quilt block patterns, there are also cross stitch patterns being released each month.

The cross stitch patterns work the same way with the patterns being released the first Friday of each month.  A one time donation of $20 to the Make A Wish campaign is suggested for the cross stitch patterns.

You can find the first Cross Stitch pattern available here.

The first milestone goal of $40,000 for the campaign has already been reached so a bonus finishing pattern is being released today as well.  It’s for the sweetest table runner using the Beloved block.

You can find the free extra pattern here.

Be sure to visit the Fat Quarter Shop blog today (the link should work later this morning) to read more about Pat Sloan’s blocks and see some of the other blocks the FQS staffers have made.

The last thing I wanted to share is my February $5 pattern of the month.  The pattern is available in my Etsy shop in both PDF & Paper versions for just $5 this month.

Have a wonderful sewing weekend!–and stay safe! Corey

I was confused when I saw your block photo at the top of the page because I KNEW that was blue Avalon and yellow California Girl fabric. 🙂 It will be fun to see how your second version turns out. It’s a beautiful quilt as usual.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
