Lemon Meringue $5 Pattern of the month + Giveaway!
Happy July 1st friends! Today, I’m sharing about my $5 pattern of the month, Lemon Meringue, as well as hosting a fun giveaway so be sure to read all the way to the end of this post. =)
For this month, my $5 pattern is Lemon Meringue. I’ve just shared a YouTube video this morning talking about this quilt in detail…so I would suggest watching the video–there is so much info shared! You can watch the video here.
My original quilt was made using Sunnyside Up fabrics which are harder to find. The panel is still available to purchase. With a quick google search you can find online shops that still have it available. This quilt would be lovely, as I mentioned in the video, using solids plus the panel. Or, as I also chatted about, you can skip the panel and make pieced blocks for the entire quilt. You would need 40 fat eighths to make the quilt without the panel. You can find the complete fabric requirements in the description information in the Etsy listing.
Here is what the Lemon Meringue quilt could look like using all Sunwashed fabrics (which are currently in quilt shops):
And I couldn’t resist creating a digital version using Peachy Keen (my next fabric line) & Blueberry Delight by Anne Sutton (both come out in just a couple months) as well as a touch of Sunwashed. I am itching to mix together Peachy Keen & Blueberry Delight. Peaches & Blueberries…what a match-up!
As I was preparing to film my video, I found an extra fat eighth bundle of some of my favorite Moda Bella Solids.
I’ve put together a fun giveaway that includes those fat eighths, plus a cut of the panel fabric, and the Lemon Meringue quilt pattern.

I used to be partial to more traditional colors like civil war era ( loved Thimbleberries!), but now that I’ve been actively quilting again these past 6 years, my tastes have changed. It’s a beautiful pattern. Love the name also. I looked up lemon pie mixes, cause I knew I use to make them as well. There are several brands that have a mix, or use a Jello lemon pudding mix and gram cracker crust.
Corey, you are one of my most favorite designers! I have been collecting Spring Brook upon finding several fabrics along my way at a quilt shop on vacation last summer. Sure I could buy a FQB, but it is like a treasure hunt. It is fun, when months later, I find yet another missing fabric. Would love to see you do a Christmas collection.

Lemon Meringue is my absolute favorite pie! My mom used to buy the lemon pie filling in a box and cook it on the stove and after she filled in the crust I got the left overs from the pan. Yum! Love all that you do for all of us aspiring quilters.

The blue version in Peachy Keen and Blueberry Delight is dreamy too, but I surprised myself by preferring the other over the blue version this time. I love this month’s $5 pattern!! My goal this year is to use may christmas stash so this will be perfect for a scrappy version. But would love to have your panel, I love the sunny messages. Cake or pie – that is a tough one. My mom made delicious cakes (not out of a box), so I lean towards cake. But I love pie too. I’m making a mystery pie for the 4th – it has Ritz crackers in it. Sound odd, but it’s super tasty.

This is more about the quilting, I’m just finishing up the backing of the Bountiful Blooms charity quilt. I noticed that you and Kimberly from FQS have been using Babtist Fans a lot. Seeing them has help me decide that’s what I want to do with this quilt. Also, I bought the quilt and backing kits for it and I have a huge amount of the fabric leftover…oh darn! Your fabrics combine well with several designers (Sherri & Chelsi especially) so that’s plus when you want a really scrappy look. Happy 4th of July 🙂

I love the Lemon Merengue quilt. The first time I ever went into any quilt store, this quilt was hanging right inside the door. Back then, I thought I would never be able to make anything that beautiful (or big). I know I can make it now. It would be a pretty quilt for my new grandaughter, who is the first girl born into our family since 1978!

Ooooh! So glad you mentioned that the Lemon Meringue Pattern was the same as the first Barn Star but in a smaller size. Made that Barn Star and quilted it on my domestic machine to echo each of the point shapes, etc. Would be so fun to create this pattern in Peachy Keen and quilt it the same way! Aspirations!

You mentioned the pie mixes from Jello. I remember them too. My mom would never let me try them as she prided herself on her fabulous pies she learned to make from my grandma, that lived in Wooster, Ohio! I was born in Norwalk, Ohio but only briefly lived in the state.

FUNNY STORY….my dad is 91, when he was 10 or 11 he worked at the movie theater selling popcorn on the weekends. He would take all the money he made and go down the street to the pie shop! Lemon meringue pie every time, even to this day, he will get a Lemon meringue pie once a week with his grocery order! He will share a little but it is his all time favorite too! 💛

Lemon Meringue was my husbands favorite pie. I was 10 and my grandmother was teaching me to cook – she let me go solo on making a lemon meringue – I followed the receipe, poured the mix into the pie shell, put it in the fridge -then before supper pulled it out and it was still soupy – my grandmother suggested I read the recipe again – oops, I had forgotten to cook it!

My mother always made lemon meringue pie for Thanksgiving and it brings back great memories. I’m quite sure she used lemon jello in the filling but unfortunately I don’t have her recipe. BTW my very favorite pie is fresh (uncooked) fresh peach pie.
I love the colors of the original quilt. Those solids are just stunning! But Thank You for the other color version–it really helps my brain visualize how the pattern could be used with different fabric lines.

I love the Lemon Meringue pattern and it may solve a problem I’ve had trying to find a pattern I can use a panel in.
My mother used to make lemon meringue pie with some frequency back in the 70’s. I think she used a lemon pudding packet but honestly I’m not sure they make lemon pudding anymore . That would be sad. I may have to look for a way to make one now. If I’m successful I’ll let you know.

Since I have been subscribed to your blog, doing the Sunny Patches QAL with you, seeing your chat with Kimberly Jolly, and watching your Utube posts, I have been drawn more and more to your lovely warm and cheerful fabrics. Obviously, they reflect you personality to a “T”. I remember my mother’s lemon meringue pies, especially in August, as she always made one for my brother’s birthday. She used the recipe in Joy of Cooking, pages 890-891. It’s the only time I ever saw her use lemon zest. 😉 Happy summer days. Thanks for the memories, Corey!

My grandmother made the best lemon meringue pie! It was my Dad’s favorite, so we had it a lot at our house! My birthday just happened to fall on George Washington’s birthday, so the cake I came to love and got for my birthday every year was the Black Forest Cake. You know, the one with the cherries inside and on top with the whipped cream frosting! YUM! Thank you George for cutting down that cherry tree!!! 🙂

I like to make pillows from quilt blocks. I will check out your YouTube video to see your method. I use a muslin lining for my back overlapping pieces. I run the grain lines for the outer fabric and the lining in opposite directions in order to minimize stretching.

A special dessert we had as a child was banana pudding made with Jello instant pudding. Mom only made desserts on Sundays for lunch so it was special. I even remember that blue and gold casserole dish she always made it in. Love remembering back to my wonderful childhood. What a beautiful time of innocence. God Bless.

I just found you this week after viewing a Fat Quarter shop video. This is what I do in the evening since there is nothing good on TV after 7 pm. I have so many projects in mind that I will never get them all done in my lifetime.

Love the new fabric line and love the pattern. I tell myself over and over that I do not need anymore fabric until I have make a dent in my stash. I have more patterns than I could ever hope to sew if I lived two more lifetimes. She’s been gone for many years now; but, I have her special recipe that I believe she learned to make at a Native American (Indian) boarding school she attended. I really enjoy watching your videos. You design some beautiful fabric. I have been making quilts for just over 20 years. I really got into quilting when I retired. You talked about preferring pie to cake. My husband does also so he always gets pie for his birthday and several other times each year. You’re correct about the lemon jello. My mom and I used it to make lemon meringue pies until a few years ago. Currently our Walmart sells just the instant lemon pudding pack but they used to sell the cooked version. I love your quilts. I love how happy the fabrics seem to me. Love seeing the Lemon Meringue quilt with peachy keen and more blues. Blue is a definitely my go to color. Also, I’m cake girl. I miss being able to have my grandmother’s German chocolate layer cake on my birthdays and holidays. However, summer time peach pie sounds delicious!!
My grandfather was a brilliant pie baker! His lemon meringue had the most beautifully tanned meringue peaks! His peach pie was amazing! My father made a lemon meringue once and boy was it TART!! He might have forgotten half the sugar 😂

I like this pattern and the barn star quilt pattern too. I did a search and did find a Jello Lemon Meringue Pie Dessert Kit and also one by a brand called Dr. Oetker. My Mom makes her lemon meringue pie using the My*T*Fine brand of lemon pudding so that is the one I use when I make my lemon meringue pie. I live in New England so perhaps My*T*Fine isn’t available in Ohio. Thank you for sharing your videos.

Lemon Meringue pie is my favorite & was always my choice of birthday pie (instead of cake) from my mom! Love the Blueberry version of the quilt. I’m so inspired by 2 color quilts 5 have been very drawn to blue quilts lately! Thanks again all you do& the inspiration!

Your fabric lines are so beautiful. Lemon meringue pie is one of my favorites. We still eat Chef Boyarde spaghetti with specific meals. Although it’s distributed by Campbell’s now. I will enjoy adding some solids to my quilts with the encouragement from your post.
