Round 4 Moda Block Heads, Block 26 (My Block!)
Welcome to week 26 and my block design for this round of Moda Block Heads.
For my block, I designed a fun little “Postage Stamp” block. This isn’t typically what we think of when we think of a Postage Stamp quilt in quilting. I bet most of you would automatically think of something like this:
This was a Postage Stamp quilt I made when I first began quilting…those are all 1″ squares (you can see the quarter for scale). The idea of an actual Postage Stamp block tickled me (I love a good play on words) so here we have it. You can download the Postage Stamp block pattern below.
Click here for the Postage Stamp quilt block pattern.
I mentioned last week that if you have a fabric that you’d like to fussy cut this would be a great block for that. For my block above, I fussy cut a little bit of the large floral fabric from Cozy Up.
I had fun yesterday playing around with a little 4 block Christmas version of this quilt using the Merry Making line of fabric by Gingiber.
The panel fabrics in my digital image are not quite to scale but based on the measurements listed for the small motifs in the Merry Making panel, you should be able to make this little mini quilt by adding borders to the panel motif to bring them to 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and then using them as the center of the 9″ Postage Stamp Block. I added 1″ sashing and a 1″ border which makes this little mini quilt 21″ square. You can easily see there a so many possibilities with this quilt block!
I also think it would be so lovely to highlight a favorite fabric collection. This is Joanna’s (Fig Tree Quilts) upcoming Cinnamon & Cream line of fabric and I think it would be stunning!
I just wanted to give you some ideas of how you might use this block…think I spy quilts, focal fabrics etc. Even framing out individual quilt blocks would be adorable!
I hope you have fun sewing up your Postage Stamp block. We have just a few more blocks and Round 4 of Moda Block Heads will be a wrap. In case you missed my setting plan for my blocks, you can find it here.
And, if you missed my free Granny’s Stars quilt pattern I shared yesterday:
Be sure to grab your free pattern here! It uses Buttercup & Slate fabrics which have just started shipping to quilt shops.
Have a wonderful Wednesday! Corey

Love this block! You are so talented.
Absolutely L-O-V-E this block Corey! What a great idea!! I’ve never seen anything like it and a quilt with your block is now on my “must make” list!
What a unique and beautiful block! I love the Christmas version. That would make a great pillow.
I really love your block. As a kid, I was into stamp collecitng. You have given great inspirational ideas for using this block. I could see a quilt of postage stamp blocks that would showcase actual stamps, or a memory quilt, or for sure an I Spy quilt. Such fun ideas!
Oh yay I’ve been looking forward to your block! It’s so cute! Can’t wait to sew this one up tonight!!! Have a great rest of the week!! 😊
I really like this block. It is a great way to highlight a large print, and I have one I have been waiting to use
I must admit, when I saw the name of this weeks block I immediately saw teeny tiny 1” blocks! I can’t wait to play with this one. Thank you!!
Most quilters do!
This is an adorable block with so many possibilities! I think it was be a great signature quilt too! Can’t wait to make one. 🙂
It would!
I love it!!
Thank you!
love the postage stamp block! do you have fabric requirements for an entire quilt??
Thank you!…no, I don’t. =)
Corey, thank you for this awesome design. Sky’s the limit with what you frame it with. I love your idea with Gingiber’s fun holiday motifs.
The block you designed is really cute. I love the fussy cut flowers in the middle.
It’s beautiful! This is what I think of when someone says postage stamp! =)
merci pour le partage. L’idée du bloc timbre poste me plait beaucoup. J’ai aussi enregistré le montage des blocs. Bonne journée. Annie
