Round 4 Moda Blockheads: Block 1 & video
Round 4 of Moda Blockheads kicks off today! Who else is excited? It is always so much fun to be sewing with all of you again.
As I mentioned last week, I will be using Cozy Up for my blocks for this round. I wasn’t certain when I posted last week which background fabric I would be using but have since decided to use the white on white pin dot from the line. It adds just a little bit of something special to the block. Plus sewing with white on white fabrics provides a little bit of extra “crispness” to the blocks.
Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles brings us Block 1, Square Wheel. For this round of Blockheads, the Moda Blog (which you can find here) will have the weekly blog post up by 8am CST each Wednesday. Their blog post will include a pic of the block as well as which blog to visit for the block instructions. If you missed the blog post they shared last week, it included more details about the sew along including fabric requirements.
The center of this block was the perfect chance to incorporate the check from Cozy Up. This is exactly what I like using this print for. You’ll notice the pattern calls for a pieced center. I was able to easily replicate a pieced look by using the check fabric. I love it! =)
Another thing you will notice in this week’s pattern is the mention of Diagonal Seam Tape.
Diagonal Seam Tape is also mentioned in some of the upcoming patterns as well. Many of you are might be familiar with this product but I figured there were some of you that might not be. So, I put together a Diagonal Seam Tape tutorial that releases today on my YouTube channel so you can see it in action. You can find the video here.
The use of this notion is not needed to make these blocks but it’s something I use every time I make a quilt. I didn’t want to miss an opportunity to share about it with you. =)
If you haven’t yet joined the Moda Blockheads Facebook group, it is a wonderful group. It’s a great place to see the blocks being made, fabric choices selected, and overall quilty comradery.
Next week our block will be brought to us by Jenelle Kent. I was so excited to see her fabric choices for this round of Blockheads–her quilt is going to be so pretty!
Thanks so much for stopping by!–see you next week. =) Corey
Can you please help me get this pattern. The link doesn’t work on Lynn’s blog. Can’t believe Moda doesn’t have link. Any help you can provide is appreciated.
The link works on Lynne’s blog, it is just not a click-able link. Copy and paste it into your browser and the pattern comes right up.
Is there a pdf pattern for the block? I haven’t been able to find one. Thanks.
Yes!…it is on Lynne’s blog. I linked to it in my blog post but here it is again: http://kansastroublesquilters-lynne.blogspot.com/ At the bottom of her blog post, she has provided the link to the PDF. It is not a clickable link so you will copy and paste it into your browser to bring it up.
So how is a person suppose to copy the pattern. Link does not work and why make it so hard? Thanks
The link is working, just copy and paste it into your browser and it opens right up. =)
Thanks Corey I love your block and your fabrics!
Thank you!…it was fun to stitch up. =)
The link doesn’t work It says it no longer exists!
It’s working…just try it again. =)
Thanks Corey. Appreciate all you and the designers do for the quilting community. Hopefully everyone stays positive, even through some technical difficulties. Excitement is high. Enjoy your day 🌷
You are so welcome Susan!…I think we always expect a lot of questions on day one as new people figure out how the process works. It’s always a big day with lots of traffic which also affects how things work. Thank you so much for your kind comments! Have a great day too!
Love how you used the check fabric in the center!! Thank you for sharing your block and being so inspirational.
That fabric was perfect for this block!
Thank you! I watched your video and the tape seems really useful. My question is, I don’t have a !/4 indicator on the top of my throat plate like you do, so how would I use the tape? I hope that makes sense, hard to explain. Thank you to you and all the designers!
I only ever worry about lining the center red line with my needle. As long as that lines up, I am good to go.
Thank for the tutorial! Love your fabric!
Thank you Corey! The link worked later in the day! Thank you so much!
Perfect! =)
I am using some leftover Basic Grey fabrics for BH4. But I needed to go to the quilt shop for background fabric. I told myself that if I REALLY loved Corey’s Beautiful Day fabrics that I would buy it. Of course I loved it! So I am making 2 Blockhead quilts. Beautiful Day for one and my leftover Basic Grey Persimmon for the 2nd. I will love them both! Corey, I enjoy you so much! Thanks very much for your great fabrics and posts.
