Sewcialites Round 2 quilt along

Sewcialites Round 1 blocks

I know many of you have been waiting for more details on the Sewcialites Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop.  Today, is the official announcement for Round 2 of Sewcialites.

Many of you sewed along during Round 1 and we had so much fun making our blocks.  I made 3″ blocks (3″, 6″, or 9″ were the size options).

This year, there will once again be the 3 same size options.  If you are debating on whether you’d like to join in or not, you can find the fabric requirements for each of the block sizes here.

The block I designed for Round 1

The Sewcialites sew along will officially kick-off on Friday, October 21 and will include a total of 24 blocks (1 released each week).  You can read more about the quilt along here.  I had the fun of designing one of the blocks for Round 2.  If you’d like to take a peek at all of the blocks for this round, you can see images of them by downloading the Sewcialites Info packet here (on the second page of the download) as well as the Fat Quarter Shop layout.

Now, here’s my sad, little confession. =)  My blocks from Round 1 are still in the same format as they were at the top of this page.  I finished all of them but never got any further….goodness!–I bet that sounds familiar to some of you.  Or if not, give yourself a pat on the back! =)

So, I think what I am going to do is to make this next round of blocks using Buttercup & Slate fabrics.  They mix perfectly with Spring Brook which I used in Round 1.  The orange peel print I used for my white background in my Round 1 blocks is available in my Coriander Seeds white on white fabric line which  means I can easily use it for my Round 2 blocks also.  And the gray solid is Moda Bella Solid in Etchings Stone which I always have on hand. =)

And then, I’ll mix all of the blocks into one completed project.  I’m considering setting them all into a layout similar to what Vanessa just shared for her Moda Block Heads quilt yesterday.  Of course, I would need to change the sizes (her MBH quilt used 4 1/2″ finished blocks, whereas my Sewcialites quilt will use 3″ finished blocks).

This is my tentative plan right now…of course it could change.  It seems like a good plan because it would give me a great way to use up the round 1 blocks at the same time and not end up with two WIPs!  I certainly don’t need anymore content for my WIPs videos over on YouTube LOL! =)

So, are you joining in on Round 2 of Sewcialites?  Let me know in the comments!…and if you know what fabric line you’re using, I’d love to hear.  PS…this is a great one to use up scraps from your scrap bins too!  Have a wonderful Thursday! Corey

The first sew along I’ve ever done was the Moda Blockheads 4 that just finished up. I felt like I learned so much that I am happy to join another sew along. This is perfect timing! 😊 I was thinking of using Bonnie and Camille fabric.

How can I resist? Although I have quite a few projects to work on such as Christmas quilts/gifts plus a couple other Quilt-alongs but this looks so fun. Only 1 block each Friday? I think I can manage that! 😆. I too will be doing the 3” size, Now to look through my stash for a layer cake to use. Can’t wait to start! Happy Quilting! Love your blog and YouTube channel Corey! Hugs

    Corey,
We’re in the same boat with not getting the squares together HA. I do have all my alternate blocks made but they got set aside. Of course I’m planning to join in for the second go-round! Thank you for sharing this today! Marking my calendar!

I am definitely going to consider doing this QAL. I am just finishing Moda Blockheads 4 and your Beautiful Day QALs. Also, I am in the homestretch with the A Quilting Life QAL. So you can see I love participating in these. I may use Lella Boutiques Flower Pot collection since I have a fat quarter bundle of this collection. May change my mind though since I have a lot of fabric left from the Beautiful Day QAL. So many choices!

  8. Hildy says:

Of course, I plan to sew along you know me;-) Honestly I have so many scraps left from MBH4 I think I’ll use these for my 6″ blocks. But I wanna make all three sizes and have already plans for my 3″ and 9″ blocks. I plan to use whites and blues for my 9″ blocks. Don’t know about the 3″ yet.

    • Wow you are already so organized!! I’m still trying to decide what size(s) to make and what fabrics to use. I have about 5 different layer cakes and some yardage (forex some Love Note safely tucked in a tote but you sure made me want to use it!!) I need to pick a background color / fabric but am looking forward to more skills building!

  9. Alice Jackson says:

I enjoyed the first round, I will do the 9 in blocks because arther does not like small blocks.
He gives me Charley horse in my fingers.

  10. Lillian K says:

I may give this a try. I think I can use the Accuquilt 6″ Qube dies to cut triangles.

  11. Sandi Silvestri says:

Corey, I love your idea about combining the blocks from Sewcialites 1 & 2. That will look really nice. I’m using Cinnamon & Cream. I think I’ll be stitching the 9” blocks. As much as I love the FQS setting, the quilt is going to be quite large. I’m thinking I,l use the setting you used for your current Blockheads quilt, and thanks so much for sharing that with us.

  12. Nancy Wood says:

This will be my first sew along so I hope to keep up! I love scrappy so I’m going to use my scraps.

  13. travelingro says:

Actually., Buttercup and Slate is one of my favorite new lines and this may be the perfect time for using it OR something in pink? Decisions Decisions

  14. Myra K Sattler says:

Love this idea and will scraps as I have a lot of them.

  15. Sherry Karge says:

I plan to sew along and I am planning on using Emma by Sherri & Chelsi.

  16. Billie Shannon says:

I completed the 3” blocks for Sewcialites 1. All I need is try to find them. Way too many UFOs but I must do this.

  17. Debra Reber says:

I was thinking about using my fabric stash & make the 3″ blocks. How hard was it to do the 3″ blocks?? I’m a little worried about that, but don’t want to make a big quilt.

  18. Teresa says:

After viewing all the blocks on the FQS site, I will definitely NOT be making the 3” blocks! I need to go home and see what FQ bundles I have there.

  19. Sandra says:

Looking forward to joining FQS Sewcialites 2. I’ve chosen your Beautiful Day fat quarter bundle!

  20. Patty Jones says:

I can’t wait to see your Sewcialites 1 & 2 blocks together; I was just thinking the other day that I thought Spring Brook and Buttercup & Slate would look really nice mixed together. I am still waiting on my Buttercup & Slate fq bundle to arrive so hadn’t been able to lay them out together. Now that you have said they work well together, I can quit wondering and just anticipate mixing them up some. Spring Brook has been my favorite fabrics for making baby quilts lately. : )

    Hi Corey!
I hope to join in and use up my stash!! We shall see. I have a long list of WIP’s, but I enjoy the Socialites blocks so much, I may have to hit the pause button!

  22. I’m definitely joining in this time but now that I just discovered I have 2 similar layer cakes — your Cozy Up and Linzee McCray’s Morning Light — I cannot decide which to use! Plus I need to pick a background for cohesion. I still have a month to decide so will focus on finishing up my Moda Blockheads sampler for my customer and then can play with these decisions (or quilt stuff like my Beautiful Day mystery sampler and Aby Dolinger’s Favorites sampler, both are hanging out in the “to be quilted” line)

  23. Lindsay Lindsey says:

I will be sewing along with sewcialites 2 using Bonnie and Camille’s Shine On. MB4 was also my very first sew along and I enjoyed it SO much!! I’m really looking forward to this one and I’m happy your contributing a block design towards it! 😊

  24. Julissa says:

I loved sewing the frist one. So you bet I will doing this one!!!

  25. Terry Crawford says:

Don’t know which fabric I will be using

  26. Susan Taylor says:

I haven’t decided for sure since I have several quilts planned beginning that week, If I do it, it will be the 3″ blocks and thinking about Christmas scraps.I know you will have a wonderful block!

  27. Sherree Chmitlin says:

I am planning to join in with the sew along.

  28. Buffie Lorah says:

I need to dig into my stash and make a fall 3″ blocks version. Love this!

  29. Chris says:

I am planning on joining in. I will most likely do the 6 inch blocks. I’m not sure what fabric yet. Possibly Buttercup and Slate or I’ll go scrappy.

  30. Lynn Scroggins says:

You aren’t the only one with last year squares…some of mine might still be uncut fabric…just maybe. I was thinking of doing the smaller squares this time and use the fabric from last year, or go scrappy, hoping it matches what I started last year and make it as a table topper. But, I like your idea of blending the two! May have to borrow that idea! Thanks!

  31. Nancy Lepard says:

Well, at first I said no to doing a second sewcialites quilt along. After all I just put the first one on my long arm waiting to be quilted! I already have 5 different WIPs going on. But, I just couldn’t resist! I just ordered your Cozy Up Petite Bundle and 6 other 1/2 yd cuts from Fat Quarter Shop so I’m joining in! I love that line and I haven’t made anything in it yet so I figured I better get some before it’s too late! That was a good reason to join in, wasn’t it?! 😂

  32. Pati says:

Yes, I did not do the first Sewcialites and I will be using Buttercup and Slate. Very excited

  33. Nancy says:

New to Sewcialites this year! I will use your Beautiful Day collection as the colors seems to speak to my heart…

    • Sandi Silvestri says:

Nancy, your Sewcialites quilt will be lovely. I’m sewing Heartfelt with Beautiful Day and I love it.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
