Spring Brook Blossoms Fabric Requirements

Our Spring Brook Blossoms block of the month will be kicking off in just a few short weeks.

The first block of the Spring Brook Blossoms BOM will be released in two weeks from today, on Monday April 19.  This is a 6 month block of the month and each month the new block will be released on the 3rd Monday of the month.  We will be making two blocks each month using the same block pattern but different fabrics.  You do not need to sign up to participate.  The block patterns will be shared here, on my blog, each third Monday.  Just stop back here, on that day, to download the pattern.   This quilt, as pictured, will finish at 70″ x 80″.

Note:  if you are joining this block of the month from the Moda Block Heads Facebook group, you will need to get the patterns here.  They will not be posted in the group.

I have a Facebook group that you are welcome to share your fabric choices and blocks.  You will find my group here.  When requesting to join, make sure to answer the questions so I can approve your request right away.  And I would love to see your fabric choices and blocks over on Instagram.  Use the hashtag #springbrookblossomsbom to share there.

And now, I know that you have been waiting for the fabric requirements for this block of the month so you can start planning. =)  Click below the picture for the printable PDF version of the fabric requirements.

The first two columns in the fabric requirements will be used for the flower tops.  If you are purchasing your fabrics (rather than using scraps or from your stash), I would suggest purchasing either a fat eighth bundle or a fat quarter bundle of your preferred fabric line.  This will give you plenty of fabric to work with.  A fat quarter bundle would be especially nice if you’d like to make any coordinating items to go with your quilt such as pillows.  All of the fabrics I am using are from my Spring Brook fabric line which is in stores now.

I wanted to show you what this quilt might look like in a few other fabric lines.  If you are shopping for this block of the month, it is a great opportunity to shop local and visit your favorite quilt shop.  I’m sure they would have other fat eighth and fat quarters bundles that would be just beautiful for this quilt.

First up, in Sanctuary fabrics:

I think this would be beautiful…and I think it’s fun to show that those flower stems do not need to be in green if you don’t want them to be!  Sanctuary fabrics are in stores right now.

Next up in Figs & Shirtings:

Isn’t this a fun, happy summery version of the quilt?  I think this could also be really pretty using only the black prints for the flower centers.  Figs & Shirtings is also in shops right now.

The last mock-up I did uses the Happy Days fabric line.  This line has just started shipping so it might not be in quilt shops today but it will be arriving this week and in the upcoming weeks.

Using the Happy Days fabrics, I would suggest choosing a coordinating darker green solid or near solid for the flower stem portions of the blocks.  Some of the prints in Happy Days feature a darker green and I would match the stems to that shade rather than using the citrine yellow/green shade.

And of course, I am using Spring Brook for my quilt.

I am excited to sew along with all of you!  If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below…I will try to answer any that I can!  Also, feel free to chat over in the Facebook group!

I’ll be back on Friday to share the next block in the Sewcialites sew along–see you then!

Hi Corey, I love this quilt, cause I´m a flower girl and I love those fabric lines, but I´ve got so many projects already. I will see, whether and how I can fit in this one.

I’m so excited to take part. Now to decide what fabric to use and order some in. Sadly Spring Brook isn’t available here in the UK yet … but I’m hoping to get my hands on one of your older lines if I can find them!!

I love this quilt, and will surely join the BOM! I have Spring Brook fabric but would really like to use my Summer Breeze III stash for this quilt. I’m going to make a table topper with the Spring Brook fabric. I absolutely love the Spring Brook collection. I also have lots of Apricot and Ash as well. Between you, Fig Tree, Sherri McConnell and Robin Pickens, I’m a busy girl!!!!

So excited for this BOM. I will be pulling my fabrics and see if I can mix Spring Brook and what I have been able to get ahold of the Pepper and Flax line together 💕

  11. Julie Strauss says:

Hello. What a great quilt! I was wondering, other than the leaves and the centers of the one star…is everything else on a 2.5″ piece? (i.e., can I use a jelly roll I’ve been wanting to use?)

    • Corey says:

You’d be able to get a lot of it out of a jelly roll (especially if you are good with revising instructions–you need some larger pieces for HST’s and QST’s but you can work around them if you are familiar with other piecing techniques). The Sawtooth Star center you could opt to piece with a little four patch center.

Hi everyone! i can’t wait to get started on this project. I have been using my stash fabrics for the past year and am anxious to get something new for this project!

  13. Joy Dickson says:

Would a fat eighth bundle work. Or do the fabrics that require 10” squares need the full 10”.

  14. Melinda says:

Hello Corey!! I am excited about this sew along ! Love this fabric line. Would a layer cake work?
    Thank you. 😊

  15. Peggy Giese says:

  16. Melissa R Theron says:

What skill level would this quilt be? Thank you.

  17. Pamela Fitzsimmons says:

Hello Corey, I have been looking at your beautiful quilt for days now, and I made the decision that I’m going to have a go at making it. But it suddenly hit me, is the centre of the 🌸 flower very small ? It’s just I don’t think I would ever be able to make it if it’s very tiny ! I’m not a great sewer, I’m from a family of “ it’ll do rightly”
But what do you think Corey you must have come across other ladies in different classes who where the same?
All the very best Corey, I’m sure your excited. Enjoy this year

I am on my way to Ohio next week. My sister and I will be visiting Berlin. I can hardly wait to visit the country where you draw inspiration for your amazing talent.

  19. Karen Eddy says:

I am in love with this fabric line, Corey. In fact, now that my youngest daughter has finally gone out on her own, I am decorating her bedroom with Spring Brook. I am painting her walls a soft yellow and I am making Patchy Stars quilt with coordinating shams and curtains. I may also make join in on the Spring Brook Blossoms BOM to use as a lap quilt draped over a chair. I had already decided to paint the room yellow before Spring Brook was released and it was the perfect fabric for that room. I can’t wait to get started! Congratulations on all your success and continuing to produce beautiful fabric designs.

  20. Sandi Silvestri says:

I’m in love with the Spring Brook fabric line. I’m making the Serendipity quilt from FQS, and I love working with this fabric line. When I saw this quilt I knew I’d be making this one too. I love the spring color pallet, it makes me smile. Thank you, Corey, for designing this quilt, and for designing all your beautiful fabric. I’ve already preordered Cozy Up😌.

  21. Becki Beers says:

I have a jelly rolls of the spring brook blossoms. Can I make this work for this project?

  22. Nancy Rector says:

I am ready except for my background. I noticed that you used a white on white dot. Can you tell me what that fabric is? I think I’d love to use it instead of the plain off white solid shown in the fabric requirements.

  23. Doni says:

Has anyone figured out how to size down the blocks to 75%? I live in a small apartment… a smaller quilt would fit on my ‘quilt wall’.

Hey Friends!--I'd love to hear from you. =)
