Sunday Best Sampler Quilt Along

Sunday Best Sampler in Sugarcreek

Happy Monday Friends!  It has been a whirl wind of a summer and I fear it is slipping away from me far too quickly.   But, with the end of summer comes something fun Sherri McConnell and I have cooked up featuring our new book, Sunday Best Quilts.

Starting in late September, we will be hosting a quilt along to make this wonderful Sampler quilt featuring the blocks from Sunday Best Quilts.

Each week, a different block from our book, Sunday Best Quilts, will be featured.  You will need the book to sew along but we will provide a weekly PDF that tells you which block to make, if you need to make more than one block and/or what borders to add to the block.  The weekly blocks will all measure 18 1/2″ square.

We will also be sharing the finishing instructions using those adorable nine patches and sashing.  I used Sugarcreek fabrics (which comes out in September) for my sampler and am completely smitten.  The gray I used is Moda Bella Solid in the color Etchings Slate.

The weekly PDF’s will be available on each of our blogs, here and at Sherri’s blog, and you will need a copy of Sunday Best Quilts to play along as well.  I have signed copies available in my Etsy shop.  This gives you a great opportunity to try out all of the blocks in the book and then decide which quilt you’d like to make next!

Sherri’s quilt uses Harper’s Garden which also comes out in September and it turned out so perfectly.  Here are some pictures of her quilt:

I love that blue fabric she used for her sashing and nine patches.

Sherri also opted to add a white border to frame her quilt.  You will receive instructions if you’d like to add the white border like Sherri or leave it off as I did.

We have heard that quilt shops will be participating as well.  Check with your local quilt shops to see if you can sew along with them.  Some of them are offering weekly  kits as well.

I can’t wait to start sewing along with all of you in September.  I had so much fun making my first sampler that I am considering making a second in my fabric line that I’ll be showing later this summer.

Also, if you are picking up a copy of Sunday Best from my shop, I wanted to be sure that you knew about my monthly $5 pattern.  Beholden is my pattern of the month in July and is on sale for only $5–no code needed.

Beholden does not use any templates or hand piecing but looks like a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt.  I will be teaching this quilt at the upcoming Quilter’s Gathering In Berlin.  Sherri will also be teaching at this event and she and I will be sharing a trunk show of all of the quilts from our book.

If I don’t see you in August at “A Quilter’s Gathering in Berlin”, I can’t wait to “see” you in September as we start to sew along on our Sunday Best Samplers!  Have a beautiful week. =)

Can you tell me if any local quilt shops in the Houston area are participating in this QAL?

    • Corey says:

I don’t have a list of the shops participating–none of the shops that I’ve spoken with have been in the Houston area but I don’t know about the shops that have spoken with Sherri. If you have a favorite shop check with them!

I have my book and I’m ready for this. I really like the idea of trying out different blocks from the book in one quilt. Of course I have several full size quilts picked out from the book as well. Beautiful book.

I love your quilt, Corey! I enjoyed the live stream with you at Fat Quarter Shop. I now have the Sunday Best Quilts book and will be sewing along using my stash of your fabric lines in the blocks, a solid white background and the Etchings Slate in the borders. Thank you sew much. If you have a button for this sew along. I would be happy to add it to my blog to pass the word to other quilters. Looking forward to sewing along … 🙂 Pat

A sampler is such a great idea for a sew along. I am most of the way through making the blocks for Rainwashed and realize it will be a beauty when complete. September will be perfect to start your quilt along.

Can’t wait to make the Sampler quilt. A little bit of the blocks from the book, before I make some of the actual quilts.

Can you tell us how much fabric we’ll need for the Sampler? I thought I had read or heard from somewhere that a fat quarter collection would work well. Thank you.

I watched you on Kimberly’s livestream, and immediately ordered the book. I love all of the quilts in it! You and Sherri did an awesome job designing them, and the fabrics are gorgeous. I can’t wait for the quilt-along!

Love this quilt & QAL! – was wondering when you might release the yardage requirements?

  11. KAREN MASON says:

I have the sugarcreek fat quarter bundle on order from fat quarter shop. I would like to participate in the sew along. Could you kindly share the yardage for background and the slate grey so that I can order it ahead of time and have it started and ready to before the sew along begins. Thank you. Karen Mason
